Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible. (There are changes from last year!)
RULES
- Submit prompts by commenting to this post! You prompt should consist of one scenario beginning with the phrase "Remember when", along with any ship/ot3/etc. from our list of nominated fandoms.
- Your prompts can take the form of recalling canon facts/events ("Remember when Nozomi and Eli got parfaits after school?"), non-canon events ("Remember when Megumi and Jin met at the Tadokoro Family Reunion?"), or somewhere in-between ("Remember when Bokuto and Kenma first met?"). Headcanons and AUs are welcome!
- Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Rei & Nagisa). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Rei/Nagisa). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!

The bus is warm, packed with all of Inashiro's players. They're sweaty and worn, even if the day's game was only a practice match. No one on their team is willing to put in any less than his best. The rumble of the bus's engine undercuts the low murmur of voices making conversation as they wait out the long ride back to the school. It's only a small, eager handful of Harada's teammates bothering to talk, but still there's noise.
Harada is silent where he sits toward the back of the bus, arms folded over his chest and body twisted to lean against the window. Out of the corner of one eye, he can see a slice of blue sky through the windowpane. It had been a beautiful day outside, sunny and clear. Perfect weather for baseball.
If he glances in the other direction, he can just catch sight of Mei, leaning back in his seat with his hat pulled down over his eyes.
Usually, Mei is one of the chatty ones, quick to provide commentary on the course of the game, to laud himself for his best pitches and to talk about their next play. Today he's quiet. It's only the pre-season, only practice games, but Mei is still a first year. The toll that high school baseball really takes remains new to him, and as much as he preens and postures as a pitcher, Harada suspects that the weight of being a first-string player hasn't yet settled fully about his shoulders. Mei pushes himself as hard as anyone, pushes himself harder than he needs.
He's only resting his eyes, Mei had said, when Harada caught his heavy eyelids drifting down. He'd pouted at Harada's disbelieving look, and tugged the brim of his hat down to hide his sleepy looks.
The sound of Mei's breathing is even and slow, and Harada knows that his protests have made themselves into lies. Even with the jerky movements of the bus and the sounds of their teammates laughing and carrying on around them, Mei has drifted off to sleep, worn out by the rigors of his own pitching. When he slumps over in his seat, his head bumping against Harada's shoulder and his hat jostling itself free to fall to the floor, Harada makes no move to tip him back upright.
Let Mei sleep. He'd shut out the other team as a first-year pitcher throwing with no relief. Harada reasons, Mei has earned this.
When the bus finally pulls back up to Inashiro at the end of the day, Mei is still asleep on Harada's shoulder. Several of their teammates walk past them on the way off the bus, slowing when they notice their ace is asleep and giving Harada pointed, questioning looks. He only stares evenly back at them, appearing unconcerned enough that no one bothers to ask after Mei again. When the bus has almost cleared, Harada slowly shifts Mei until he's again leaning against the back of his seat, unaided by Harada's body as a support.
In that moment, when no one — especially Mei — is watching him, Harada allows his expression to soften into what is almost a smile.
Mei feels light enough, when Harada decides to pick him up from the seat. The aisle down the center of the bus is narrow, leaving him with little space to maneuver in. He's left hefting Mei rather like a sack of potatoes, his chest draped against Harada's shoulder, his ass braced against the flat of Harada's forearm. He has to stoop a little in walking down the aisle, to make certain he doesn't bump Mei against the roof of the bus. It's slow going, but he manages.
It's a bit like carrying an infant home from a play date, something Harada feels all the more when Mei shifts sleepily and winds his arms around Harada's neck. He gets both hands under Mei's thighs, one from either side, and then the going gets easier. He's unsurprised, when Mei hooks his heels around the small of his back.
"We're back at the school," Harada says, his voice a low rumble as he walks back to the dorms.
"Mmghm," Mei murmurs against his shoulder, an unintelligible sound Harada makes little effort to decipher.
"I'll bring you to your room," Harada adds.
Mei rubs his face into Harada's arm, and Harada knows in that moment that Mei is no longer really asleep. But he doesn't contest it, and when they make it to Mei's door and he squirms out of Harada's arms, he has manners enough to offer a dignified little "thank you," before disappearing into the room to pass out properly in his own bed.
