Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible. (There are changes from last year!)
RULES
- Submit prompts by commenting to this post! You prompt should consist of one scenario beginning with the phrase "Remember when", along with any ship/ot3/etc. from our list of nominated fandoms.
- Your prompts can take the form of recalling canon facts/events ("Remember when Nozomi and Eli got parfaits after school?"), non-canon events ("Remember when Megumi and Jin met at the Tadokoro Family Reunion?"), or somewhere in-between ("Remember when Bokuto and Kenma first met?"). Headcanons and AUs are welcome!
- Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Rei & Nagisa). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Rei/Nagisa). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!

Remember when a girl could have never been a prince?
FILL: TEAM CHIHAYAFURU, T
This is pretty sketchy, I'm sorry, but I had an idea and it would not let me go. Includes bonus T2?

Re: FILL: TEAM CHIHAYAFURU, T
FILL: Team Kyoutani Kentarou/Yahaba Shigeru, G
The first time she has the thought is when they're young, playing in the gardens together, chasing each other around the hedges.
Miki has a sharp eye and knows where the royal guards have positioned themselves, even if they're trying their hardest to be subtle about it. Aya pities them; she knows her friend well and they might be young, but Miki is cleverer than most.
They hide behind the taller hedges, giggling to each other as they listen to the guards' panicked shuffling as they try to relocate to a different position, to keep them in sight. Miki holds Aya's hand and leads her around the garden, turning familiar corners, hiding behind trees, around archways, and she knows the entire place just as well as she knows herself.
Aya, transfixed by the feeling of Miki's hand in hers, for so long, wonders if she'd be allowed to hold the princess' hand forever.
—
It takes her years to identify the feeling for what it truly is. In that time, they've both grown and Miki is beautiful. She's the kind of princess that the entire kingdom loves; she's kind, she's patient, she's clever, but she knows when to let those around her underestimate her.
She knows how to look nonthreatening and Aya thinks that perhaps it's her favourite thing about Miki. She knows how to work the situations she's in to her advantage, no matter how difficult it might be. It's a good trait for a princess to have.
They still spend as much time together as possible, because Aya is the only companion that is the same age as Miki that is regularly at the castle. Her father, a highly ranked knight, works closely with the king and with the prince. Aya enjoys the time that she gets to spend with Miki, loves the fact that she's one of the only people who gets to see a different side of the princess that it's shown to the public. She's the one who Miki relaxes around the most.
She wants to hold onto that feeling forever, as well.
—
"They're introducing me to princes," Miki says, one afternoon as they sit in her personal library. She's still looking down at her book, but Aya knows that she isn't reading it. She hasn't been for a while, now.
Miki doesn't know how to respond, or how to breathe around the tightening in her chest. "Are they?"
"They think I'll meet the right person for me among the allies of our kingdom," Miki sighs. "Well. Perhaps not the right person for me, but the right person for my title. For the part I play in the kingdom's future."
"You don't like that." It's not a question, because they've edged around this topic before. Aya already knows how Miki feels.
"I feel," Miki says softly, looking up from her book this time, "that there's not one single person I could marry, not a single prince that I could love, the way that I already love someone."
Aya looks up as well, holding Miki's gaze. She doesn't look away. "Could that person ever be a prince?"
Miki shakes her head. "No. But I don't care. I want to be selfish, sometimes."
"I would say that you're entitled to that," Aya replies, "but I doubt I can keep my biases aside."
"Then don't," Miki tells her, standing, crossing the small room. She takes Aya's face into her hands, tilts it towards hers. "Perhaps we can both be selfish."
Aya leans forward, pressing their lips together. She might never be a prince, but at least she'll have this.
