Bonus Round 1: Memory

Bonus Round 1: Memory

Let's start our summer by looking at the past—things that happened in canon, or maybe in an AU, or maybe just as wishful thinking...

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on June 9 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible. (There are changes from last year!)

RULES
  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post! You prompt should consist of one scenario beginning with the phrase "Remember when", along with any ship/ot3/etc. from our list of nominated fandoms.
    • Your prompts can take the form of recalling canon facts/events ("Remember when Nozomi and Eli got parfaits after school?"), non-canon events ("Remember when Megumi and Jin met at the Tadokoro Family Reunion?"), or somewhere in-between ("Remember when Bokuto and Kenma first met?"). Headcanons and AUs are welcome!
    • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Rei & Nagisa). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Rei/Nagisa). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • Post fills by leaving a responding comment to a prompt with your newly-created work.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

    SCORING
These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many prompts/fills as you want!

For prompts: 5 points each (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

    For fills:

First 3 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
    Fills 4-10: 10 points each
    Fills 11-20: 5 points each
    Fills 21+: 2 points each

All scored content must be created new for this round.

    Etc.
If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only.

FILL: Team Chihayafuru, G

When they had first joined the team, it was Kindaichi who had suggested it.

"All three of us: Kageyama, Kunimi, Kindaichi! The same sounds, the same fury!"

It was ridiculous, but he remembered Kunimi laughing.

"That doesn't make sense," Kageyama said.

Kindaichi gave him a look. "Of course it does, Kageyama-kun." He repeated himself, pointing at each of them in turn, emphasizing the first sounds of their names. "Kageyama, Kunimi, Kindaichi. There are so many first years trying to be regulars, we'll have to stick together these next three years."

"The only way to become a regular is to be the best player," Kageyama said. He turned back to the court. It was only the first day, but Kageyama had watched so many professional matches on his television that he knew who the best players were. A boy with brown hair swept to the side threw a volleyball in the air, ran up to it, and delivered a swift, sharp serve across the net.

Something caught and lifted in his chest. His primary school coach had told him that it would be important for Kageyama to reach out to the other players on the team next year at his new school, to make sure to make connections with the other boys. 'It will be important for you to learn from as many good people as possible. Everyone has something new and important to teach you, Kageyama.'

Kageyama watched the boy's hands fist in triumph at his side. He heard Kindaichi and Kunimi walk away, but it didn't matter. He knew who was going to teach him something new and important.

---

"Oikawa-san, again?"

Kageyama looked up from his volleyball. He suddenly felt a bit embarrassed at having been caught stewing in frustration by his fellow first-year. Kunimi crouched down next to Kageyama, trying to balance, but ended up toppling over. Kageyama looked away to be polite.

"He still won't teach me the serve, but the school year will be over soon."

Kunimi shifted next to Kageyama. He was silent for a while. "Oikawa isn't like that with the rest of us," he said.

Something pinged painful in Kageyama's stomach. He knew, he paid attention and he saw. He looked down at the volleyball in his hand. Oikawa-san must have used it to serve at least once. Kageyama wished the ball could just tell him the answers. He wished Iwaizumi-san knew what to do, how to serve like that. He wished Kunimi was Oikawa-san or Coach, someone who could make this problem stop, help him figure out what he had to do during practice or what move to learn to execute better so Oikawa-san would finally acknowledge him in practice.

"He's not," Kageyama finally said.

Kunimi grunted a little, took a drink from his water bottle.

"Kageyama," he began. There was a hesitancy in his voice that made Kageyama look up, see Kunimi looking right at him. Kunimi jumped a bit when he caught Kageyama's eyes and Kageyama looked back down at his ball. "Ah, well. You, ah, you could always come practice with us, with me and Kindaichi? We're working on hitting straights. You're a good tosser, we could go back and forth better with your help."

"I'm already good at those," Kageyama said, feeling the frustration well up again. "I need to learn how to serve."

"Fine," Kunimi said. He stood up and walked away.

Kageyama went back to doing what he did a lot that year, watching.
