Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible. (There are changes from last year!)
RULES
- Submit prompts by commenting to this post! You prompt should consist of one scenario beginning with the phrase "Remember when", along with any ship/ot3/etc. from our list of nominated fandoms.
- Your prompts can take the form of recalling canon facts/events ("Remember when Nozomi and Eli got parfaits after school?"), non-canon events ("Remember when Megumi and Jin met at the Tadokoro Family Reunion?"), or somewhere in-between ("Remember when Bokuto and Kenma first met?"). Headcanons and AUs are welcome!
- Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Rei & Nagisa). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Rei/Nagisa). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!

Fill: Team Grandstand, T
Word count: 1200 words (im in a rush i couldnt make it decent or long like i usually would but One Day but for now you know what you have to deal with this. Sorry.)
Sing-song as a death dirge, he heard them before seeing them.
"Hey there, Teshima-san."
The same voice to make his skin crack like ice.
"What?" He didn't turn around. Within narrow alley space, that single word echoed like there wasn't a single living soul's breath to stop it. He took one out of bad habit before saying, "I think you've got the wrong person." It was already too late.
"I see," starting around him, sterile and polite. "Thanks so much for correcting me. What's your name?"
"Kojima," he said, edge of a smile - teeth cutting into his agonizingly dry mouth. At least he still had his sense of humor.
And they still laughed. "Oh! Kojima-san, then. I feel like I've met someone like that before."
"It's a pretty common name." The two of them set between mutual darkness, beset by painfully flickering lamps on either side, felt like a fitting enough stage. So he turned around. "I'd say it's weird if you hadn't met a few before."
Manami hummed, soft popping steps along concrete closer. "So what are you doing out here so late," they asked, every step too close. "Kojima-san," carefully enunciated. Sharp white teeth were blatant despite what little moonlight struck through the alley.
"Just taking a detour," he said, forcing a step forward - not back. Never back. It had been too late the moment he'd decided to do this. "Thought I could do with a bite to eat."
"Really? From how much you're shaking, it seems like you need a bit more than a quick bite."
Teshima threw out a hand, trying to hold it still. "Then I guess I'll pick up a horse and see how that goes."
His eyes were adjusting - enough to see Manami's patience wearing down, every word another moment less.
"I think you'd want to go a little further out if that's what you're looking for," they said. "Kojima-san."
"Well, I thought I'd check out my options first." Quicker still. "Dunno if you've ever had horse meat, but it really doesn't fill you up as much as people say."
His words froze upon the air, trapped by their empty gaze. As long as he got was he was looking for, it was fine.
"I gave you a chance," came quiet, and careful, and dangerous.
"Yeah. I noticed." He folded his arms, chuckling. "I thought you said you disliked wasting things. Not your best move, Manami."
Fingers clasped, they smiled, painfully sharp. "Everyone deserves options! Even if some people don't want to take my advice."
"How've you been? Since last time," he asked, taking what little time he had in every moment he stole to plan.
"I've taken care of myself," they said. Manami didn't shift, no more than a breeze through their hair, as he strolled around what little space the two had. "Unlike you."
"Not all of us are blood-thirsty monsters!" he tossed back.
"Well," they laughed. "Not everyone likes to admit to that."
If he could find an opening, he could manage. But - it was a fool's gambit. Hardly a step, and half his vision cut out. The most he could do was slam his back against a wall, twitching fingers struggling not to claw out what remained of his left eye.
"Monsters are all the same." Between a sigh, Manami tossed more rocks into the air, landing back in their hand, their hair, over their shoulder, embedded in concrete. He could hardly see, but he knew their smile. "Are you so soft that you gave up on surviving?"
"Maybe I just realized that people are people," he spat. "I'm not a big fan of making messes like that over a bit of blood."
"What," they said, deadpan, leaning against the wall on his left - forcing him to turn his head without lifting a finger. "Is there someone you like? Can you not touch them knowing you've got all that blood on your hands?" There weren't any words left he could use. And they laughed. "If it's a problem, just give them a gift! See how they like it."
"I'd hardly call this a gift," he forced out.
Their teeth go on forever, sharp silvered daggers, immeasurably old. "And yet that tiny rock would have killed another human."
He needed to cut them away - a spark of strength more, and he could have ripped off their arm, but when a hand rose to his face, he let them.
"Anyone else would have lost this forever."
Let them dig fingers through, incapable of feeling the nausea that should have been rolling under his skin, till he could see the sclera and blood sticking to their skin.
"You wouldn't like that, would you?"
Simple as that, they held the pebble out for him to see, placid smile to bear.
Teshima said, "Yeah."
Eyes closed, Manami asked, "I'm guessing you'd like another chance."
How long it would take his eye to grow back - he wasn't sure. It always took more time, the further away from blood and flesh he kept himself, dragging himself along by what little power kept his body from falling apart. But he wasn't one to spurn opportunities.
"You know it."
One hand pressed to the wall - it was already crumbling behind his head, and he knew he should run. Knew a thousand things better than he acted.
"If I was doing you a favor," they murmured. "Wouldn't you prefer to die at this point? You'll never be able to face those people." It was worse, like this. Worse than hearing them shriek like a harpy, drenched in blood. Worst when they were being honest. "There are only so many other monsters in the world, Teshima-san."
"Good." Not a single breath between the two of them. Eyes met, as best he could through the blur of pain, he said, "I'll start with you."
A fight was an instant. He could fill time with a thousand words, but when it came down to it, there was nothing more than a winning move versus a losing move. That was the only miracle he needed. Losing an eye, for the moment. Hearing this. Every bad thing - he had to have one good thing coming to him. If it meant -
One hand driven through a chest.
The crack of bone.
Fingers snapping pathetically against spine, but still - twisting - forcing his hand to close, despite the sick soft laugh in his ear. If he was stronger, he wouldn't have had to hear this - wouldn't have had to know.
He tried to stare straight ahead. Tried to keep his remaining eye on dying light, not their face, not the curve to their lips.
Nothing could change - Manami tilting their head against his shoulder. Nothing could stop their voice echoing in his ears. Soft, genuine, and - worst of all - triumphant.
One last word. "Thanks."
One less monster in the world and a heart to hold and a day longer to survive, and there was absolutely nothing good about this.
Teshima could feel his eye growing back, in the same as blood dripping through his fingers, out his mouth. It made him sick.
