Bonus Round 1: Memory

Bonus Round 1: Memory

Let's start our summer by looking at the past—things that happened in canon, or maybe in an AU, or maybe just as wishful thinking...

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on June 9 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible. (There are changes from last year!)

RULES
  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post! You prompt should consist of one scenario beginning with the phrase "Remember when", along with any ship/ot3/etc. from our list of nominated fandoms.
    • Your prompts can take the form of recalling canon facts/events ("Remember when Nozomi and Eli got parfaits after school?"), non-canon events ("Remember when Megumi and Jin met at the Tadokoro Family Reunion?"), or somewhere in-between ("Remember when Bokuto and Kenma first met?"). Headcanons and AUs are welcome!
    • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Rei & Nagisa). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Rei/Nagisa). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • Post fills by leaving a responding comment to a prompt with your newly-created work.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

    SCORING
These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many prompts/fills as you want!

For prompts: 5 points each (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

    For fills:

First 3 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
    Fills 4-10: 10 points each
    Fills 11-20: 5 points each
    Fills 21+: 2 points each

All scored content must be created new for this round.

    Etc.
If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only.

The atmosphere in the hospital room is so heavy that Fukutomi feels as if it's suffocating him.

He bears it without complaint. It's the very least of what he deserves, as far as he's concerned.

His hands are trembling as he stands by the door, waiting for Kinjou to look up, to decide whether or not he's welcome inside. He's lucky that Tadokoro isn't visiting right now; if he was, Fukutomi isn't entirely sure that he'd make it out of here alive. He isn't entirely sure that he'd stop Tadokoro from taking his anger out in whichever form it took.

"Are you just going to stand there?" Kinjou asks, making him stiffen up. "You seem to me like the kind of person who faces reality, head on."

"I revealed my true self to you that day," Fukutomi replies softly, stepping into the room. "I'm not strong, or courageous. I'm a weak coward, who can't face reality if it's different to my expectations."

Kinjou hums, his arms folded across his chest. "I suppose that makes you human, then. No harm in that."

"No harm," Fukutomi repeats with a strained laugh. He looks at Kinjou, lying on the hospital bed, in a proper hospital rather than just one of the medical tents set up near the race site. "I think I've caused plenty of harm. You aren't going to race tomorrow."

Kinjou looks away from Fukutomi, his hands clenching his hospital blanket tightly.

"No," he says at length. "I'm not."

"In that case," Fukutomi says, "I won't either."

Kinjou laughs, or that's what Fukutomi thinks he must be trying to do, but it's a quiet, frustrated noise with no happiness in it. "If you had to miss a race for every race that I miss, you'll have to give up road racing, Fukutomi."

It takes a moment for his words to sink in. Fukutomi's eyes go wide, and he's thankful for the visitor's chair beside Kinjou's bed, because he feels his knees giving out.

"You're going to stop?"

Kinjou exhales slowly. "I don't have a choice in the matter. The amount of damage I sustained—and I then made it worse by continuing on with the race afterwards—"

"No," Fukutomi breathes. He doesn't know what else to say, and he can feel tears of shame pricking at the backs of his eyes. He's furious with himself. "No."

Kinjou nods silently, his lips pressed together into a thin line. He's gripping onto the blanket so hard that his knuckles are turning white. There are tears at the corners of his eyes as well.

"I think you should leave," he says, quiet and choked.

Fukutomi nods, rising to his feet. He pauses at the door, trying to find the right words to say to Kinjou.

There are none. He turns and leaves.
