before i even start i kinda just wanna say, please consider this a blanket rec for all of em's podfic. or fills, really. but this one hurts me in a very soft, special way that honestly hurts even more acutely for the softness of it? this is such a lovely fill to begin with but i really love the way this is read, and all the hitches and pauses and nuances in the wiring made all the more clearer when read out loud :")) also em your voice did a sort of break on the line "don't say anything" and i let out an audible sound it was. a Lot

pacrim AUs are my jam. oikage is also my jam. this fill is a wonderful combination of things i am Very Much About, and it's so well written, too! i really like the idea of oikawa's capabilities as a setter translating into this 'verse as super, super drift compatibility. kageyama, too--so much potential, but still so caught up in the difference between working as a team and trying to carry a team entirely on your own shoulders. and how hard it is for kageyama to realise that in his actions, even if he knows it in his head.

there's an interesting contrast in oikawa and kageyama's dynamic that's part mentorship (or what could've been, or might still be) and part rivalry, and how that balance shifts about depending on whose pov you're looking at the two of them from.... speaking of, i love how the fact they're not alone, that they're sparring in front of other people somehow draws the focus even closer onto the smallest details, body language and dialogue. a lovely AU and a lovely relationship study, all in one.

a condensed version of my thoughts on this: AAAAAAA

a somewhat more coherent version: em's dialogue is pretty much always On Point, and that really comes through in this fill! i love how what isn't being said is just as telling and important as what is; and what is being said is engaging, witty and alive and so, so in-character.

honestly i don't even think you need any prior knowledge of their characters, this as is works as a great introduction into chris and miyukis' characters and relationship :"))) at times i found myself nearly forgetting miyuki Isn't a pitcher, because this sells it so well? how chris and miyuki are both strategic thinkers, but in their own ways, and how they synergise and soar even higher than the sum of their parts when they're working together. it's believable and so incredibly in the moment and i! am! very fond of this fill... c:

i love, love, love the krmy Banter with Feelings brand, and here it is, working wonders right here. for real, this is literally just a conversation miyuki and kuramochi have while miyuki piggybacks kuramochi as they're running laps but. also, about how the people around them see their interactions vs. how miyuki & kuramochi themselves interpret them. which is always fun, and hilarious, and filled with secondhand embarrassment). the way these two support each other without admitting it, the way how important they are to each other is still so gosh darn obvious even then.... this is such a Nice Fill :")))

"what if kageyama always had hinata with him?" is what this considers, and it's as hopeful and heartbreaking as it sounds. the way kageyama can so easily imagine how different his middle school years--or his whole life, even--might've been if hinata had come into it earlier is so poignant. it says a lot about what they do have now, too, and the sense of them rushing forward "almost as if making up for last time" resonates with this a lot OTL OTL. it says a lot about kageyama, and hinata, and how kageyama sees hinata, which--well. you gotta read to find out, seriously, it's super worth;;

Why is this work awesome?: Have I mentioned how much I love Alex's art style? I really love Alex's art style. I love the way it sets the tone of the piece, the way Kagami looks so downtrodden at first, and then the way the piece immediately lightens the moment he sees Himuro. I really love how Himuro is drawn here, with cool colours and a pleasant smile, and the casual way he's standing in the last picture, casual and relaxed, because it speaks volumes about their relationship (also, I love the way Kagami is hurrying towards him, it's so cute)

Why is this work awesome?: This is yet another example at how good Alex is at drawing expressions. This drawing took me right back to the moment in the series that this happened, and it felt like a swift punch in the gut because it's just captured so well, with Alex's own touches in the colouring, the lines, even the texture of the paper. I love it when artists take something close to canon and make it their own, and I think Alex did a brilliant job of that here.

Why is this work awesome?: i can't believe andrea wrote a 12k krmy manifesto for a br fill but every day i'm so damn grateful that she did! there's so much i love about this fic, and I think majority of my original comment of it on ao3 was me quoting my favorite bits and Yelling, but that’s a testament to the type of fic this is. the kind that is so incredible and stunning it leaves you speechless and lacking coherency because all you want to do is Scream about how perfect it is. andrea manages to portray so many different moments of their relationship and everything fits so well together and comes across so nicely. you could have each bit be a separate thing, but when they’re woven together in one unit like this it just adds to the emotional impact of it. and as always, it’s worth mentioning that her writing is so atmospheric and warm and just genuinely a joy to read. there’s so much talent and the writing’s so beautiful ahh every word is perfect and makes my heart do they clench thing. I love it and I love andrea !!

Why is this work awesome?: friends with benefits krmy is always a killer, and this certainly Delivers (my death). and the way andrea wrote this makes me super emo :’) i love what she’s managed to create here and how this deals with the physicality of their relationship and how it’s juxtaposed with the emotional side of it as well re: kuramochi’s feelings about miyuki. this has beautiful prose and the way it’s written really contributes to that emotional punch in the chest. in particular: ‘maybe youichi wants miyuki anyway. maybe youichi’s fine taking anything he can get.’ this hits me in the heart so much i’m dead and dying and this fill is a Good™

Why is this work awesome?: Bokuto thinks about loving Akaashi. i. god. okay. this author's work is hashtag writing goals for me in a number of ways, and one of them is how she doesn't waste words. at all. i feel like every word is chosen because it's supposed to be there. this fill is only ~700 words long but so much is communicated in those 700 words. it's like having layers upon evocative layers packed snugly into a small space.

this fic is kind of? about pining? and i think that pining is a difficult thing to write, and i think this fic explores how it feels in so many thoughtful ways: Bokuto thinking about Akaashi all the time, but specifically picturing how Akaashi would do everything he does; saying Akaashi's name and liking how it sounds on his tongue; imagining Akaashi's hand on his knee. all of it is so simple and not dramatic at all but somehow so /intimate/ and you can really feel how important all of it is to Bokuto? i also like that we get glimpses into how their friendship developed!! Akaashi rubbing off on Bokuto in positive ways! Akaashi willing to do after-practice with him so he can become a regular!!

here are some lines i am particularly dying over: "It is impossible not to love someone who tries so hard to make their care invisible, and yet is so fastidious with its application." (GOD!! THIS IS SUCH A GOOD AKAASHI LINE THIS IS SUCH A GOOD INSIGHT ABOUT AKAASHI, FUCK); "Perhaps his hand will press a space for itself between the shifting planes of Bokuto's shoulderblades, and remain there."; "Akaashi, he whispers to the manufactured twilight beneath the bedsheet."

i love that even though this is pining fic it's so positive and hopeful because it's Bokuto ("Akaashi, he whispers a final time, and then I love you—still practicing—as his eyes settle closed.") ; he puts so much energy behind his emotions because he's Bokuto. ("He loves Akaashi, he thinks with determination.") this writer knows and has thought about both these characters a lot and it really shows.

my interpretation was that things were beginning to develop in a romantic direction but Bokuto wasn't sure if it was reciprocated yet, or maybe there's some kinda Complication like one of them is aro or ace or both but it's not super clear? (Bokuto wanting to ask Akaashi "what is wrong".) in any case i always like seeing that kind of development unfold.

Why is this work awesome?: rakes my hands down my face holy god there is so much about this fill i love. i love how the narration starts with "Akaashi's first memory of Bokuto is --" but that memory isn't revealed into the end, because in a way Akaashi's entire life explains that first meory. i love the narrative style and how fairy-tale it is. i love the entire AU?? i'm very weak for god/mortal but i also love Bokuto being this fiercely cheerful river god who everyone depicts typically old and wizened but he isn't like that at all. ("a curved, wicked mouth that can eat the entire world raw.") i like Akaashi's fear at the start, because his beauty is a curse and it's going to end up with him becoming a sacrifice; i like his fears about how their relationship is going to end when it turns out the reason why it ends is just Life. (along those lines, i like how their relationship is just a stated thing, it just happens, we aren't shown HOW it happens exactly but, there it is.) AND THEN-- the ending, everything coming together, Akaashi "drowning himself by accident" and remembering Bokuto (who he doesn't know is Bokuto yet). it's so pretty and has such a strong impact and, i love water and water imagery so i particularly enjoyed that the story ended and started with that.

Why is this work awesome?: Bokuto is Icarus and Akaashi fixes him. what would a bokuaka rec list be without the biggest bokuaka lover ever and one of the best bokuaka writers i know, Ms. Arsenic Jay. i die so much over Bokuto with wings and i die even more over Bokuto with wings getting hurt. (Bokuto calling himself broken, oh my christ???) Bokuto crying and being dramatic about it is exactly what i would expect ("I might as well be dead.", "What will I do, if I can't fly?") ; so is jumping right back into the endeavor even after it's been proven to be dangerous.

Akaashi quietly soothing Bokuto and quietly encouraging him to maybe not go too far also hurts me; i love that part of it is selfish, that he just wants Bokuto to stay with him, and that he /recognizes/ it as selfish and tries to suppress it. i love that Bokuto is like "i could bring you the sun!" but Akaashi just wants him. "He keeps those moments like little pebbles in a sack, collected from the riverbed as he waits for Bokuto to tire and come home. [...] Akaashi wonders, sometimes, why his heart feels so heavy." ohh god. i hate this. (i love this.) i sympathize so much with feeling something so intensely that it's like a weight around your neck EVEN WHEN IT'S SOMETHING GOOD, LIKE LOVE. i believe so, so strongly that this is how Akaashi experiences feelings; even though he might not say anything about it or not let a lot of it touch the surface, he's so full with the feelings that are important to him that it's almost overwhelming. i love this fill so much.

Why is this work awesome?: The premise of this fic is great (a witch au where Nico has no magic!) and the story is precious. Nico's anxieties over not having magic and lying to her siblings are an amazing parallel to Nico's idol dreams in the series. I also really appreciated that there was no easy fix for her situation, but that she still finds value in sharing everything she's learned with someone!

I really enjoyed how the author portrayed Miki's sheer conviction in what she was doing as unnerving, especially since she gives off that impression so strongly in the series! And OF COURSE Miki and Aya are in love, I'm so glad! This was a super adorable fic. :)

I was embarrassingly relieved when he finally made it in the end and the fact that he did it in the first place to spend time with Onoda on his birthday is so good. I love this pairing to death and they're both so well-written here!

The way they're both sitting in their beds at the top is just so wonderfully drawn, with Akashi just leaning back against his headboard, while Nijimura is leaning forward over himself. Their expressions are so upset, but also incredibly in character—even in the privacy of his own bed, Akashi is reserved, while Nijimura is more open. I love it.

Why is this work awesome?: I don't even have the words for how much I absolutely love this comic. The backstory to it is really cute (baby Ho-oh oh my god) and the way it ties into pokemon lore itself, with the rainbow wing that you need to actually find Ho-oh. I love Akashi's increasing desperation as he gets closer and closer, I love that he's kept the feather in a charm, and his brief disappointment when he sees Nijimura where he was expecting a bird—until he realises that they're one and the same. Also, Nijimura as Ho-oh is one of those crossovers that is so perfect that the moment I saw it, I immediately thought of course he would be. The colour in this is so wonderfully used, it adds so much to the atmosphere and I love Nijimura's Ho-oh robes so much. The bonus is also…… so great. Same, Akashi.

guuuuh, if you're ever in the mood for atmospheric, almost tangible writing, here's a fill for you! i'm so impressed at how much this poem conveys in so little; painting a moment between taichi and suoh by dancing around them and showing us everything else surrounding them, instead. reading this feels like holding your breath, all the way until just before the exhale -- suspended in time, but no less powerful for its brevity.

Why is this work awesome?: This picture has such raw emotion in it and I love it. Alex is so good at punching me right in the gut with how much emotion is packed into each and every single drawing, and this is no different. Abe gritting his teeth together, his arms wrapped entirely around Mihashi, the way Mihashi is just clinging to him, gravitating to him so the tops of their bodies are pressed together even though they're standing apart. It captures their relationship so well, and this feels like such a realistic reaction for both of them to have. It's so lovely.

Why is this work awesome?: I cannot believe that this is real, that I have been blessed with soupyun soulmate au. The premise itself might be hilarious, but this is so wonderfully written that as you read it, you find yourself just going along with it instead of questioning it. The world building is really well done, so carefully constructed to make this particular soulbond work, and it's so wonderful to read, to watch Sousuke slowly come to the realisation of exactly what and who his soulmate is. The communication between the two of them is so good, I love Pyunsuke trying to take care of Sousuke through their bond, and Sousuke doing the same without even realising. It also fits really well into canon, which is just… so impressive. Sousuke's reaction to actually meeting Pyunsuke is so well written, this entire thing is so well written and it makes me so, so happy.

Why is this work awesome?: I love the way Murasakibara is written here. I love whenever people acknowledge the fact that there's much more to him than meets the eye—this line: Sometimes it was too easy to forget that Murasakibara had a side that was decidedly different from his usual lazy and childish demeanor, just hits the nail on the head so perfectly. I also really love how difficult he is to read, even for Himuro, who can't tell if his teasing is deliberate or accidental. RIP Himuro. I especially love that even with all the ambiguous flirting, it still ends with Murasakibara whining to eat, because that's still such a big part of his personality.

Why is this work awesome?: the imagery in this is so rich and beautiful. a lot of it is (intentionally, i think?) awkward but it works so well, when you're starting to kiss someone for the first time it can be hella awkward (esp if you're a teenage boy) but that doesn't mean it can't also feel amazing or that you can't love it for all its awkwardness. the /specificity/ is so great, like, Miyuki being weirded out by how Furuya's tongue feels and thinking about how he never thinks about how /he also has a tongue in his own mouth, that feels like that too/. a lot of the descriptions are also super creative (e.g. riffing on the line drawn in the sand; "he thin tense resolution like the membrane from inside a boiled egg, holds firm and keeps miyuki on his feet."; "furuya sucks his face the way a beast with a snout devours ripe mangoes. [...] [miyuki] is rotten fruit and he is ready to be eaten" < screams into my hands that second line i'm never going to be over it)

i also love seeing Miyuki's slow falling, even right from the start. thinking that he's past the point of no return and then acknowledging that he isn't, he just likes to think he already is bc it's easier, probably. slowly noticing that he's getting used to it, and becoming worried about it. "he did not want to start needing a thing that came with an expiration date." in contrast, i love how untroubled and happy to roll with it Furuya is.

for a while after reading this i was so excited about the idea of Furuya and Miyuki having regular casual sex, like, regular enough that Miyuki thinks nothing of sidling up to him at a party and, without any preamble, asking him to go bang (the alcohol probably helped ;;); that he'd think of dragging Furuya to a party with him in the first place; that he doesn't /get/ like this very much, doesn't want sex very much, but when he does he wants Furuya. i usually think of these two as romantic and maybe it seems like a simple thing to go "what if FWBs?" but i'd never considered it before this and now i can conclude that i am v much into it.

THAT SAID-- Furuya isn't in the fic and if i had to point at a ship that the fic focuses on, i'd say it actually centers around oimiyu's friendship. i haven't really gotten into oimiyu as a ship although i know a few people who have, but i really like how their friendship is portrayed here? Oikawa being annoying and calling him a messy drunk and poking into Miyuki's personal life >:] >:]

most of the fic is just Miyuki being a shitshow at a party. i really like how the narrative starts the morning after, so you get this aftermath of Miyuki being hungover and in class and with a swollen cheek and irritated, and you have to trace back to the night before to figure out what caused all that. i really enjoyed all the gratuitous crossover and spotting all the cameos from other sports anime series, pfft.

Why is this work awesome?: Furuya is a mermaid and rescues Miyuki after he falls into the goddamn sea. i am so weak for mermaid stuff but this is a particularly good one.

i love how Furuya looks: the barnacles on his cheek, the translucent tail, the gills that spread over his chest like external ribs and the glowing markings (of COURSE he's bioluminescent, i'm so glad). he sounds beautiful but also so, so obviously not human. i also like how he barely says anything in the entire fic and mostly shows things through action. what he DOES say, though, feels v important - sharing his name and thanking Miyuki. (and stating the obvious - "you aren't dead" - pfft.) i like how he kisses Miyuki so abruptly, and it seems so out of the blue although what he did probably makes perfect sense to him.

Miyuki-- i like how Miyuki got himself in this mess bc he was curious and wanted to pick something/someone apart. why am i even surprised. i love that even when he's about to drown and when he's met a /supernatural creature/ he still thinks about baseball and compares things to baseball. i was also tickled by the ending where he's just like "all of this just happened, it sure has been a hell of a day".

This is such a lovely, domestic moment, and I love how expressive all the character are in their happiness, and how dynamic the angle is... and I really love the blue palette? Each character is expressed in varying shades of it, and I really like how that works out.

Why is this work awesome?: This story feels really solidly put together and balanced well. I remember being hit immediately by how good the colors in their art assets were - each pic had a definite mood, from the warm sunny bench scene to the cold, lonely gates. Both of the routes to this dual piece feel like the "true" ending, which was surprising but pleasant for someone who expected one unequivocally bad and one good with no regrets.

Why is this work awesome?: This entry made me angry, the moment I saw Miyuki's smug face twice in the header pic, I wanted to punch both of them. That's how you know you did Miyuki right, I think. Also the plot was good and I was screaming internally by the end because I knew what he was going to do and fuck how dare you. The gif images really add a lot too.

Why is this work awesome?: The art in this is so solid. I have a lot of respect for people who can put this level of realism into their drawing, it's the kind of thing that takes time. Also I'm ridiculously weak to puns. The puns are so good in this. Every hero name and headline is an animal pun and this team pulled out multiple owl and cat puns and it's great.
