sportsanime | Bonus Round 7: Recs

You've created so much during this event, so here's a round to celebrate each other's achievements!

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on August 24 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.

RULES

Recommend at least three fanworks from main or bonus rounds. Your recommendations don’t have to be connected in any way, and you do not need permission to recommend a work.
Don't rec your own work. You can recommend things created by your own team, but please spread the love to other teams too.
Each recommendation must include at least two sentences explaining why that fanwork is awesome. Please use the format specified below.
You may recommend as many works as you like, as long as they are posted separately in groups of at least three.
There will be no prompts for this round. Simply post each fill/recommendation list as a comment in response to this post.

SCORING

These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many fills as you want!

For fills:

First 3 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 4-10: 10 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each
Fills 21+: 2 points each

Why is this work awesome?: HOLY CARP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i want to swear in amazement so much but i am holding myself back because i feel like sai would not approve. this is an absolutely beautiful fic/comic combo fill. the pacing is done so masterfully through both the comic panels and the placing of text in the fic, i would rec it on that merit alone. it's gut punch after gut punch with this fill thanks to the little, little changes from moment to moment (panel to panel) that draw you in and make you feel like you're living this moment alongside hikaru. it's like the fill that keeps on giving. each time i look at it i feel like there's something new to see (the first time i around i hadn't noticed the last image is the gentlest, saddest gif ever).

i am a big fan of seeing a medium really being used to its advantage, and that's what happens here. if you're not familiar with hikaru no go, maybe the emotional impact won't be big for you, but i still recommend it on the basis of seeing how well a medium can take advantage of its form (though, also, major spoilers ahead).

Why is this work awesome?: FIRST THINGS FIRST! both this fill and the next one are labeled as "not fills" because the creator did not want them to be acknowledged as fills. i respect that, BUT I THINK THEY ARE WORTHY OF RECS! after all... i'm guessing most people in this fandom event enjoy chatting fic ideas with friends, right? this first half of the not fill definitely feels like that, like you just checked your chat, and there's your friend describing a soul crushing au. [sniff] isn't it one of the greatest feelings? to give context, i linked to the start of the thread so you can see what the original prompt was.

Why is this work awesome?: this fill is really, really rewarding if you've read the first two i rec'd. there are all sorts of little nods to the other fills that i loved a lot, all sorts of small details popping up that, when you really think about them, make you feel sad. it's also an emotionally satisfying conclusion to part 1. we left hikaru in a lot of pain, but here he gets to wrap things up in a way that works for him.

also i feel compelled to mention that I DIED OVER YOUR SAI AS AN AI PROMPT in br1, i have gone back to that prompt and screamed at it so many times, especially after rereading parts of the manga later when doing the other fills b/c there was apparently a canon bg character who was working on building and AI and i just, died

b/c imagine, in the future where that guy completes the new go ai, he goes around to well known go players asking for input on naming AND HIKARU PITCHES 'SAI' and everyone who still remembers that infamous internet go match of sai vs touya meijin get behind this and then it gets chosen and i
