This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on August 24 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.

Why is this work awesome?: I LOVE THIS SO MUCH OK the tension and the banter is so good and i love the illustration of the different types of dynamics between the three of them. christanba and chriszaizen are both super underrated ships imo and putting them together like this even moreso. i think my single favorite thing here, if i have to choose, is the argument over who is more qualified to pick tanba up while tanba himself is just like "no." i love this, please read it, please love tanba and zaizen i adore them so much.

Why is this work awesome?: i adore their expressions here so much, renji's closed eyes and soft mouth, the way masamune is trying to keep looking grumpy but he's blushing and taken offguard. i think it's a really lovely illustration of their dynamic, where renji has just ha so much experience handling masamume that he just rolls with it no matter what happens. i love that masamune is taken off guard here and it's just so cute.

Why is this work awesome?: I LOVE THIS TRAJECTORY FOR THEIR RELATIONSHIP DEVELOPMENT TBH where it just kind of happens and neither of them are super sure because it's new and they're young, and kuramochi sort of just going for it on an instinctual level while ryousuke has to sort of think his way through it. i love ryousuke deciding that he doesn't want to run, that he wants to do this thing, and ugh it's just so, so nice.

But what is truly delightful is the contrast of the bleak, harsh landscape and Ushijima's struggle, set against this author's Tendou voice. I love Tendou's focus on small, human, mundane things, Tendou's mental gymnastics against the reality of his death, Tendou being a bit of a jackass. And I love Ushijima not even letting death stop him.

Why is this work awesome?: What is such a wonderful, warm, small series of moments between all these four is set against something that seems so much bigger, and so much more terrible, it makes all the little details shared between that much more precious. The easy way they bicker and fall asleep together is really lovely, and I especially love these lines for how vivid they are:

Splashes of bright orange and electric blue play across Tsukishima’s hair, light up Yamaguchi’s freckles, fall across Hinata’s lap. When he carefully turns his head, he can see the colours on Kageyama’s face too.

Hinata’s suddenly overcome with quiet awe.

It's such!! A great visual!!! and really puts you right in that moment with them, and gives you that feeling of the calm before the storm. Please stay safe out there, kids. ;v;

Why is this work awesome?: I LOVE THIS INHOSPITABLE NECROMANCY-LACED LANDSCAPE THAT WARPS ONE'S SENSE OF TIME AND SELF AND HOW IT BASICALLY TURNS INTO AN AWKWARD ROMCOM MOMENT. Who would have thought that a weird not-death and terrible death magic could lead to such an adorable moment as Ushijima's "I appreciate you"? Actually, given that this is Ushijima and Tendou, super very likely, but that doesn't stop it from being wonderful anyway. Come for Ushijima's strength in the face of everything and him being terrified of what he's doing here, stay for the awkwardly romantic caress.

But this Hakogaku girls cycling team is amazing: the team dynamic and the easy friendship between third-years translates so well, complete with banter and dumb jokes and all the things that make the Hakogaku boys endearing too.
