Bonus Round 7: Recs

Bonus Round 7: Recs

You've created so much during this event, so here's a round to celebrate each other's achievements!

This round is CLOSED as of 7PM on August 24 EDT. Late fills may be posted, but they will not receive points.

  • Recommend at least three fanworks from main or bonus rounds. Your recommendations don’t have to be connected in any way, and you do not need permission to recommend a work.
  • Don't rec your own work. You can recommend things created by your own team, but please spread the love to other teams too.
  • Each recommendation must include at least two sentences explaining why that fanwork is awesome. Please use the format specified below.
  • You may recommend as many works as you like, as long as they are posted separately in groups of at least three.
  • There will be no prompts for this round. Simply post each fill/recommendation list as a comment in response to this post.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

Bonus round shenanigans all happen in the comments below. Brand-new works only, please.

Format your comment in the following way:

If FILLING (all teams):
  • Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team you belong to
  • Copy and paste the following form into a comment and fill it out. Delete things in brackets, and leave the HTML alone.

Posts not using this format will be understood to be unofficial discussion posts, regardless of what they contain. They, like all comments in this community, are subject to the code of conduct.

These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many fills as you want!

For fills:

First 3 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 4-10: 10 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each
Fills 21+: 2 points each

All scored content must be created new for this round.

If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only.

Have a question? Check The FAQ first. If you still need help, feel free to contact the mods. Happy fanworking!

Theme: Oikage Fic Fills, Volume 8

Title: What It Means To (Hit It Until It) Breaks
Creator(s): [personal profile] psiten
Rating: T
Major Tags: mild profanity
Why is this work awesome?: The most delightful thing about this fic is hands-down Psiten's voice for Oikawa. He's so pleasant yet facetious, self-aware but effacing and so deliberate in how he presents himself to the world and keeps stock of everything happening around him. Beyond that, I love what Psiten has done with the "hit it until it breaks" line, this is a fic where Kageyama is coming to Oikawa for advice on how not to break, and the advice Oikawa gives is incisive and so true to his view on everything. I also just really adore Oikawa making Kageyama kneel, and Kageyama giving him a hug! Lots of good stuff here.

Title: Unafraid, I Was A Boy
Creator(s): [personal profile] kitaiichis
Rating: G
Major Tags: none
Why is this work awesome?: Andrea's prose is lovely; every line has a purpose, every word is carefully chosen, sentences woven together to compose images that give the scene being detailed dimension and depth. I love the way she sets the tone for the scene, the sense of Oikawa being larger than life and the way Kageyama is at once awed by and admiring of that. The way she uses her visuals and characters' body language to convey their personalities and emotional state is so good, there's this really great contrast between Kageyama's overwhelming sense of Oikawa and the ordinary, small things they're doing in the moment. At the heart of it this is a single, simple moment between two people with a lot of history, conveyed beautifully.

Title: Oikage Hydrangeas

Major Tags: recurring dreams, flower meanings
Why is this work awesome?: I really love fiction which implements the concept of dreams in different ways, and this is a really fun execution of that. I love that it's arguably an AU — the setup of Oikawa seeing Kageyama in his dreams allows him to "meet" Kageyama before when he should meet him in canon — while also being able to slot into the canon timeline. I love Serena's language and word choice because that is always lovely, and I really enjoy the use of flower meanings, as those are also something I love seeing in stories.
