Bonus Round 2: Tic-Tac-Toe

SASO 2017 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

Get three in a row! That's the goal of this bonus round. Inspired by a fanwork event type called kink bingo, this round encourages you to create and fill out themed prompt cards.

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible. There's a lot of text here, but if you read carefully and follow the instructions step by step, you will be okay.

RULES

Please refer to the first comment thread of this post for an example of how this round works.

PROMPTING

1. Select a ship to create your prompt card about. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Haruki & Kazuma). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Haruki/Kazuma). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!


2. Visit this card generator.
   • Here is a visual guide to using it.
   • The large text box is where you can list prompts if you have your own ideas. Please list at least 9 prompts; you can list more if you want. (The generator says you need at least 24, but it's lying.) Single words or short phrases are better than sentences.
   • Otherwise, you can use the dropdown menu found right below it. Note: some of these prompts lists are NSFW. (NSFW prompts are a-ok as long as you tag for it.) If you don't like some of the options that appear in a prompt list, you can delete them.
   • Text prompts only, please. Also, each card square must be unique—don't list the same prompt 9 times.
   • In "Configuration Options," make sure you select 3x3 and (Normal prompt). This is the most important step!
   • Leave the tic-tac-toe card with its default colors, so everyone can read it clearly.
   • Click the "Create a bingo card" button.
   • Scroll down to see the card that was created for you. If you don't like the prompts it picked, you can reroll by clicking "Create a bingo card" again.
   • When you're satisfied, scroll further down the page until you see a textarea box full of HTML.
3. Copy and paste the HTML from the box and into the body of your prompt comment, then post!

FILLING

Fill prompts by selecting an individual square to create fanwork for, then leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work. (Optional:) If you can fill three squares from a prompt in a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line, you get a tic-tac-toe (and an additional point bonus)! You can also just fill prompts as you please and get standard points.

• Prompt squares are labeled as follows:

  A1	B1	C1
  A2	B2	C2
  A3	B3	C3

• If you're trying for tic-tac-toe, you cannot combine squares into one fill. If your fill can satisfy multiple squares, pick the most relevant square: e.g., one square is sailing and another is pirates and you make a fill about pirates sailing, it's mostly pirates so put down the pirates square.
• Each fill must stand alone as an individual piece, but all your fills can slot into a larger universe if you'd like.
• You cannot fill a prompt square more than once, but you can fill every square on a tic tac toe card if you want to.
• You cannot work with your teammates to get a tic-tac-toe. Only individually achieved tic-tac-toes get the bonus.
• Multiple people can fill the same prompt square. You cannot "block" others from getting tic-tac-toe.
• Remember to also follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

SCORING

These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many prompts/fills as you want!

For prompts: 5 points for each tic-tac-toe card (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

For fills:
First 4 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 5-10: 15 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each
Fills 21-50: 2 points each
Fills 51+: 1 point each
Tic-tac-toe Bonus: 2 points each for the first 12 achieved by your team

All scored content must be created new for this round.

Just after three AM, Tetsurou gave up on trying to sleep and crawled out of bed. It was three weeks into the new year and already the thought of his university workload made him feel dizzy and short of breath. He was still balancing classwork with his part time job, which didn't leave very much time to sleep, and that was assuming he even could sleep.

He folded himself into his desk chair and opened his laptop, squinting at it in the darkness even with the brightness turned all the way down. There was nobody online when he checked, but he sent a faux-cheerful message to a few people just on the off chance that someone was suffering as much as he was.

Only ten seconds passed before he got a reply. He was surprised when he saw that it was from Akaashi.

Kuroo-san. Can't sleep?

Tetsurou let out a heavy breath. No, he wrote back.

Can you talk?

Yes?

Moments later, his phone rang, flashing silently on the desk beside his computer.

"Akaashi," he said softly when he picked up.

"Kuroo-san," Akaashi murmured. His voice was thick and stuffy.

"You're sick?"

Akaashi made a disgruntled noise. "It's just a cold."

"You need some soup," Tetsurou said, settling back on his bed. "I'll bring you some tomorrow."

"That's not necessary, but thank you."

Tetsurou laughed quietly. "It's fine, come on. Let me help."

Akaashi demurred, and changed the subject abruptly, asking Tetsurou about mutual friends instead. By chance they had chosen the same university, but most of their friends from school had gone elsewhere. Tetsurou had been surprised but pleased to find that the isolation brought them closer together, even if they had a singular capacity for getting on each other's nerves.

"So," Akaashi said at last, after he'd put down the phone for a minute to blow his nose noisily. "Why can't you sleep?"

"Eh," Tetsurou said, hunching down against his pillows.

Akaashi coughed loudly, making Tetsurou wince. "Come on," Akaashi said in a rough voice that sounded like it hurt. "Talk. I don't want to."

Tetsurou sighed and burrowed deeper into the pillows. "Fine," he muttered, scowling up at the ceiling. "It's just...there's so much. All the time, just so much to do, and think about. I'm always at work, or in class, or doing work for class. I miss everyone, and I haven't had sex in like a year, and I just feel like I can't breathe."

For a few moments after the outburst, Akaashi was quiet. Tetsurou almost began to wonder if he'd fallen asleep, but then he made a low, thoughtful noise.

"I can't tell if that's a really roundabout way of hitting on me, or just pathetic."

"Hey!" Tetsurou protested, before the first half of the sentence penetrated his sleepy brain. "Wait, what?

"You've picked the most inopportune moment, but if you can hold out until my sinuses have stopped leaking like a tap, we should do something about that."

Tetsurou blinked. "Really?"

"Unless you don't want to," Akaashi said thickly. "In which case it was a joke."

"No, I--I want to," Tetsurou said, somewhat surprised to find that it was true. He closed his eyes and tried to picture kissing Akaashi, though it was a little distracting with the sound of his heavy, open-mouthed breathing over the phone. "Yeah, I would actually really like that."

Akaashi hummed in approval. "I'm gonna try and sleep now. You should too."

"I'll pretend I'm cuddling you," Tetsurou murmured.

"Oh, god," Akaashi said.

Tetsurou laughed. "I'll see you tomorrow. Let me know what kind of soup you want."

"Goodnight, Kuroo."

"Night. And thanks."

“I want to swim with Rin !”

Blue eyes widened as he kept staring down in disbelief at the little boy he was supposed to be coaching.

“I don’t want you, I want Rin !”

He pouted and Haru almost rolled his eyes at the sight. If not for the fact that he had promised his boyfriend and his coach that he would behave, he would already started arguing with him. Or he would have gone home. There was a reason he had refused to help Makoto for his swimming classes. He didn’t get along well with kids. Rin said it was because he was still one himself despite being almost thirty. His boyfriend was lucky he was so cute, because Haru really was not above petty pranks as a form of revenge. He still cooked only mackerel for three days straight, argumenting that fish was healthier than meat but he had noticed the distrustful look in Rin’s eyes and he knew that he knew.

“Well, Rin is busy elsewhere.”

“That’s not fair ! I know that he’s swimming with the ones in group B ! I want to talk to your superior !”

Haru really didn’t have the patience to handle children, especially proud one like Shunsuke who thought that the world should bend to his desires. He was so tempted to just leave him in Makoto’s hands and go back to swim on his own.

“Is something wrong ?”

Haru wanted to sigh in relief at the familiar voice. Finally someone able to handle the situation. A long high-pitched scream made them both flinch.

“OH MY GOD !!! You’re Rin !!! I’ve watched all of your competitions !!! I’m you’re biggest fan !!! Oh ! My name’s Shunsuke with the characters from “spring” and “shell” ! Can I get an autograph ?!”

Rin laughed.

“Well, I don’t see why not. After all you’re my biggest fan, aren’t you ?”

The kid squeaked in joy and blushed under Rin’s affectionate gaze. Haru pinched his lips.

“Aren’t you busy with your group ?”

“Well, it’s break time so I thought I’d pass to see how you’re doing with your only student.”

Haru narrowed his eyes at the comment. He knew that his boyfriend liked messing with him but It was a low blow, and he mentally promised himself not to cook any meat for another three days.

“Shunsuke’s been refusing to train. He says he wants to swim with you.”

Rin looked at them both successively.

“For a whole hour ?”

Shunsuke had the decency to look sheepish.

“But you’re only here today, right ? I didn’t want to let the opportunity pass. I’m sorry for causing trouble for Haru.”

Haru was baffled, and a little bit impressed too. So young and he had already learnt to change his behaviour in the blink of an eye just to get what he wanted. Adn it seemed to work as Rin ruffled his hair and Haru thought for a second that the kid might passed out.

“We can swim together when it’s play time, after practice.”

Shunsuke made big, round and pleading eyes at his idol.

“You promise ?”

The voice was overly sweet too and Haru felt like puking at the fakeness.

“Yes, of course. But, only if you promise to behave and do as Haru says. He’s one of the best when it comes to swimming you know.”

“But he swims free and I like your butterfly, Rin.”

“He can teach you that too. I train with Haru, you know. He’s the one who helps me with my form.”

“If you say so, Rin. Then, I guess I’m okay with training under Haru.”

“Good boy.”

He ruffled the boy’s head once more and turned to Haru.

“Understood ? No more problems or there’ll be no swimming play time. For either of you.”

Haru felt slightly offended. He hadn’t been the one making a ruckus. He still stayed silent.

They heard someone calling for Rin and after a short exchange of “Later”s, he was left alone with his student for the day.

“So, let’s start with the lesson, Coach.”

“Since when am I coach ?”

“Since Rin won’t swim with me if I don’t behave.”

Haru sighed but executed himself and started giving him pointers on how to correct his form.

After all, he too wanted to swim with Rin.

It was a coincidence that they returned to the hotel from the club at the same time. Georgi certainly hadn’t intended to let Giacometti spend an extended period of time with him, but it couldn’t be helped. The doors were locked and the night attendant didn’t come no matter how many times he rang the bell. It was his fault for agreeing to stay at a smaller hotel rather than the big, international ones closer to the venue, but Natasha was staying there with the rest of the Russian team, Natasha and her new boyfriend, with whom she was extravagantly, annoying in love with.

Georgi didn’t need to see that.

He didn’t know why Giacometti was here, though. Not hiding out from a broken heart, surely. Maybe he was just cheap?

Giacometti caught his eye and shrugged. “I have a cousin who lives close by. If we’re quiet, she’ll let us stay. Will you come?”

“My bags are up there,” Georgi huffed.

“You’ll still look pretty in the morning,” Giacometti said with a wink.

How stupid. No wonder Victor liked him so much.

‘Close’ was only a relative term, it turned out. Giacometti led him through twisted and turning streets, veering off this way and that, squinting at the dim light of his flip phone. Georgi walked behind him and watched the shadows suspiciously. Sometimes he’d see a face looking back at him, but then it would disappear, uninterested.

“If we get attacked, I’m leaving you behind for dead,” Georgi said to Giacometti’s back.

“Fair enough. We’re here.”

His cousin’s place was a long, narrow apartment building with no elevators to speak of. The cousin lived on the top floor because of course she did. Georgi prided himself on his athletic ability and endurance, but it had been a long, long day. By the time he’d reached the top of the stairs, he was exhausted, leaning against Giacometti’s back for support.

Giacometti rooted around his pocket until he got out a key and opened the door. Inside, the apartment was clean and plainly, boringly furnished. It seemed like it was empty.

“Ah, she must not be in,” Giacometti said. “But still, there should be some food in the fridge. Are you hungry?”

“No,” Georgi said, just as his stomach groaned loudly.

The food he didn’t remember, but then Giacometti brought out the wine. “Why do you call me Giacometti? All my friends call me Chris. Christophe is all right, if you want to be formal.”

“We’re not friends,” Georgi said, pointing to his empty glass. “We’re competitors, rivals. Really, I’m respecting you when I don’t call you Chris.”

“I don’t really think of you as a rival though. And I really prefer Chris,” Chris said, watching him with those big green eyes that were too much like Natasha’s. Georgi felt his heart crumble in his chest. Natasha! Why had she left him? Why had she turned away from him? He thought she really had been the one…

Then Chris’ words penetrated into his skull. “Oh. You think of Victor as your rival, don’t you? Not me. Fuck you.”

“You act like I don’t understand you,” Chris said with an expansive shrug. “Lambiel’s a genius too, you know, and won’t retire anytime soon. We all want our moment in the sun.”

Georgi had never had his moment in the sun. That was his fate, coming up at the same time as Victor, who the whole world loved. Georgi couldn’t even keep the love of a single, solitary girl. Suddenly, tears welled up in his eyes and spilled down his cheeks.

Alcohol always made him emotional, and he had been drinking at the club earlier too.

Chris, mistaking Georgi’s tears for a bout of professional frustration, drew closer to him and threw an arm around Georgi’s shoulders. He made comforting, nonsensical noises that Georgi chose to ignore.

“Let me distract you. Do you want to fuck?” Chris murmured in his ear.

“Wha--” Georgi swallowed hard. He felt wretched, of course, and sad and awful. But also pretty horny. “... Fine.”

The next morning, they went back to the hotel. Georgi didn’t see Chris again until a year later, in Switzerland. He was spotted before he could avoid him -- Chris waved to him and said, cheerfully, “Hey, Popovich! You owe me, don’t you?”

This was, in hindsight, all about respect. This was the respect Murasakibara owes Akashi, as a captain and a friend and whatever-this-is that they do, neither of them wanting to slap a label on it. It was about defying him, taking something before it was given; it was about a show of power, Akashi stopping his strongest, most thunderous force with just his small frame. But that, too, was about respect, the clearly conditional respect Akashi has for himself, the respect of his teammates he'd put on the table when engaging in this sort of competition.

He’s been different now, but still the same. He commands respect differently, a table with the finish chipped off redone in a darker hue. Perhaps this change was necessary; Murasakibara privately thinks it was a long time coming, a divide of Akashi against himself, withholding power and a host of other things he’s not privy to. Sometimes it’s too complicated for Murasakibara to want to think about, especially in front of Akashi (rumors that he can read minds are unfounded but even so).

He kisses differently, too; he lets Murasakibara get away with more only to sharply redirect Murasakibara's wandering hands with his own, sharp and cool, rather than moving back and telling him to stop. He speaks more with his actions, a quick pass or an outside shot, a drive through traffic that sends the whole court down to the floor. Murasakibara wouldn’t say he’s more aggressive per se, but perhaps the word fits more than he’d like it to. Perhaps the only reason Murasakibara’s reluctant to use it is that Akashi wouldn’t want it. But who is he to say what Akashi wants?

Before, Akashi was content to just let them do things; now he moves them along, disciplined, in some sort of direction. It’s not bad, not as incompatible with Murasakibara as people who don’t know him might think. It’s just different, like a repackaged candy with a slightly different recipe; he gets used to it quickly enough, skin touching skin with a purpose, red and yellow eyes staring out from under the curtain of Akashi’s bangs, not yet swept aside. Murasakibara could palm Akashi’s whole head if he wanted to (and he’s thought about it). But this Akashi knows when he reaches out, and rather than leaning into the touch or telling him not to he takes Murasakibara’s hand in his.They’re so different in size they very nearly don’t fit, and yet. Akashi holds it, and Murasakibara would like to think it’s out of respect.

They’re in bed when it happens, cuddled against each other. Nishinoya’s got his face tucked against Asahi’s chest, an arm thrown over his broad back and his legs are tangled around Asahi’s knees. He likes to cling to Asahi when he sleeps, a teddy bear with agency, a promise he won’t ever leave.

It doesn’t hurt. There’s nothing but a strange floating sensation, the weightlessness that comes when a rollercoaster drops, and then there’s only light.

Nishinoya can’t feel Asahi anymore. He can’t feel himself. There’s no heartbeat, no tingling bloodrush to his fingertips when he tries to press.

He can’t open his eyes to look at himself. He has no eyes.

Yuu?

It’s his voice but it’s Asahi’s accent. There’s a sensation of - something? - light. Warmth. Strength. Doubt.

They’re emotions but they’re not emotions. Are they? Nishinoya isn’t here.

He remembers seeing himself not in a mirror but from the outside. The first time they met. The last time they kissed (five minutes/years/eons ago, slow and replete). He’s small and full of energy (a star seen up close is a sun) and the thought Nishinoya could pull him out of orbit.

Those aren’t his thoughts but they are.

When he extends his - hand? Self? - he finds more thoughts.

He’s on a swing, kicking his legs back and forth, but the sand under the swing dissolves and he’s over an ocean instead. He’s splashing, fat little legs kicking, and the person holding him suspended in the water is Asahi’s father, not his.

Memories blur and bend together. Nishinoya tastes his own mouth from the other side, feels the strangeness of his teeth when licked by someone else’s teeth. He never knew he had that little birthmark on the back of his left thigh, so high that his swimsuit normally conceals it. He never knew that was why Asahi always kissed that spot.

Yuu? He says and it’s his own name, he thinks, but he isn’t sure. It’s Asahi’s voice and his own accent. And then he says it again and it’s a voice that’s new, that’s somewhere between the two of them, that’s accented pleasantly but strangely.

One of them is Nishinoya Yuu. Both of them are Nishinoya Yuu. Neither of them are Nishinoya Yuu.

Nishinoya Yuu died when the large hadron collider exploded and so did Azumane Asahi.

What remains is new but it is both of them still.

It is born from love and it glows.

They're hanging out in Kagami's apartment in Chicago when it happens. It's late, they're tired, and they're too comfortable around each other to give much thought to personal space any more. Since mending their relationship, Kagami and Himuro have easily fallen back into the same sort of closeness they were used to back when they grew up together in L.A. Aomine is a new addition, but they've gotten closer since graduating high school, since he also moved to America to pursue a professional basketball career.

Kagami knows, on some level, that Aomine and Himuro have been spending time together in L.A. He hasn't given it much thought, beyond being glad that the two of them are getting along. He isn't prepared for it when Aomine reaches out, resting his hand on the back of Himuro's neck and pulling him into a kiss. He isn't prepared for just how willingly Himuro goes, eyelashes fluttering shut as their lips meet, his hand bracing against Aomine's knee.

They kiss like it's not the first time they've done this and Kagami watches them, feeling his mouth go dry. Himuro wraps an arm around Aomine's shoulder as they deepen their kiss and Kagami feels like he's been jolted out of the reality he thought he was in and placed rudely into another; a reality where Aomine and Himuro kiss like they can't get enough of each other. A reality where something burns in the pit of Kagami's stomach, leaving him confused as to whether he wants to turn away or whether he wants attention. Even so, he can't tell who's attention he wants, he can't choose, and he's never put great thought into kissing either of them before but now, there's a voice deep at the back of his mind that demands: both.

As if to answer that voice, Aomine and Himuro pull apart, their lips shining wet with each other's spit, and turn to Kagami as one.

"Taiga," Himuro murmurs, reaching for him, and he goes without a second thought. He links his fingers with Himuro's while he lets Aomine grab him by the front of the shirt, yanking him into a hard kiss. It's nothing like the softer kiss that he gave Himuro just before, but Kagami needs this. He needs Aomine kissing him like this is a fight because that's the kind of Aomine that he understands the best. Just the same as he needs Himuro pressing up behind him, chest to Kagami's back, lips hot against the shell of his ear as he kisses it.

"We wanted you," Himuro whispers, wrapping his arms around Kagami. He slides one of his hands up underneath the hem of Kagami's shirt, over his muscled abdomen and sighs, his breath hitching. "I've wanted you."

How long? Kagami wants to ask, but Aomine is keeping his tongue occupied and it doesn't matter, in the end, as long as Himuro's lips and hands are on him right now. His mind is spinning, imagining them both in Himuro's apartment, wanting him, together.

"He's gonna explode," Aomine mutters, breaking their kiss. Kagami wants to protest, but he can feel himself overheating, and he suspects that Aomine's right. "Be gentle with him, Himuro."

Himuro, who is sucking on the sensitive skin just under Kagami's ear, pulls back with a breathy laugh. "He doesn't need me to be gentle. Do you, Taiga?"

"No," Kagami breathes, locking gazes with Aomine, like it's a dare. He already feels like he's being set on fire, and wants to know just how hot he'll burn. "Keep going."
