SASO 2017 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

An oldie but a goodie—in this round, we draw inspiration from famous words said by other people.

Loveless!AUs are always interesting, and it was neat to see this one combined the development of rumors-- and the idea that they're torn into before ever entering the battlefield, that it lingers and lingers and they're absolutely apart is fascinating.

holy shit, how tired was I that I kept inserting the names of my RP chars instead of Hanamiya and Imayoshi? THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU TRY TO WRITE AND RP AT THE SAME TIME.

SCREEEE this was one of my favorite fills for this round and I was so sad that the round closed before I could respond to it. I adored that you linked that article at the top of the fill, and the nerdy part of me adored that the red dye came up!

I was actually rereading my 100 ImaHana fills yesterday so getting feedback on them out of nowhere is MAKING MY MORNING, thank you so much!

And yeah. Is it a horror story? Is it just a facade? Will Imayoshi's wife poison him? WHO KNOWS.

It was meant to hurt, though. The thought that they can't marry, that they couldn't even if it was legal - but that Hanamiya kind of wants to. That Hanamiya can see a way that marriage isn't a horror story but a love story, despite his own upbringing and all his mother's warnings.

Hanamiya knows better than to hope. But he also knows better than to believe that it wouldn't work out with Imayoshi. Believing that might make reality easier to bear but Hanamiya has never been about what's easy.

What's true is what matters more. And what's true here is that Imayoshi doesn't love anyone except Hanamiya but the lie Imayoshi is living will give him everything he wants.

Compared to that, what's Hanamiya's happiness worth?

!!! I was thinking witch! I am so glad that came through as a possibility and the shifting pronouns didn't bother you. Imayoshi's very good at blurring the lines so I figured I could play with gender just a tiny bit there to add to the mysticism/lack of clarity around Imayoshi.

But yeah, please picture Imayoshi as a witch who sells spells and tells futures, seated in a parlor, cloaked in midnight and with glasses that give True Sight that pierces glamours. And Hanamiya just swaggering in, brash and cocksure, but Imayoshi can see the wolf under the human skin and the fangs in the smile.

I am probably never going to see the canon but likewise, I am never going to tire of writing Loveless AUs because the premise is SO TERRIBLE and therefore so perfect for me.

Aomine and Hanamiya are so straightforward compared to Akashi and Imayoshi. Seriously. Akashi, you spread rumors about a 13 year old fucking a 12 year old!!!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!

But the tattoo rumor probably gained more weight. It's impossible to disprove and less scandalous to repeat. Even if Akashi shows photos of himself as a baby with PEERLESS marked on him, people can claim they were Photoshopped so that probably made Akashi's reputation take a severe hit. And his father wouldn't have been pleased by that.

I AM GLAD YOU LIKE IT. I have very strong opinions about wine snobbery and the MANY, MANY tests that have shown that it's literally impossible for even professional wine tasters to tell expensive/cheap wines apart. This fill was the perfect chance for me to actually share some of that knowledge.

Also this fill is one of MY favorites just because of the throwaway line about how Hanamiya moved to Europe where he can legally and openly marry/date Imayoshi. Like the bulk of the story is about wine and snobbery and Hanamiya not buying into it, but. That one little bit about how Hanamiya is willing to uproot himself entirely and move to a different continent JUST TO BE WITH IMAYOSHI IN PUBLIC?

That's my favorite. Sometimes I just want them to have good things and bicker like a normal couple. Thank you so much for prompting this!

asdlkjlk; I get really excited whenever I realize your fills are (might be?) connected! This one I'm hoping is related to the blood selling/ werewolf!Hanamiya one! I'm even more curious what Imayoshi is now.

The description of corrupted blood invading Imayoshi is so consuming, and the pairing with external ravaging felt like a sensory overload as a reader, so I can't even begin to imagine what it would be like for Imayoshi.

The last two paragraphs feel stark in comparison to the rest, a sharp reminder that Imayoshi is not necessarily a victim in this situation, and that there are benefits to this twisted bloodsharing.

One of the fun things about Drift AUs is trying to figure out the details. Like, what do you think the Jaegar does while they share fantasies of having violent, toothless sex? Does it pretend to suck? Does it thrust its hips? How do you explain this to the engineers and maintenance crew?

Imayoshi and Hanamiya are definitely Those Two Pilots who will fuck INSIDE THE JAEGAR once the kaiju has been killed because they're riding so high on the adrenaline and the thrill of victory. And only then go home.

And what would their Jaegar even be CALLED? The naming pattern of Jaegars is hard to figure out. Hanamiya has the spider motif going on but Imayoshi doesn't really have any set theme except intelligence.

(Nishinoya in a Jaegar called Rolling Thunder, though, please imagine that. And Kaz and Tsuko in Sunshine Baby or something else equally cheerful and harmless sounding.)

“Take out the smart ones first,” Imayoshi says, too reflexive to have thought about his response. This sentence. I want to shake my hands at this sentence, because its timing speaks volumes of history that ties in so well with the hints you place earlier (hint of a lovebite, off reactions). Your fills always have a sense of a completion to them, as though there is so much more, but we're peeking at it through a spyhole and there is more than enough for us to understand the gravitas of the scene.

MEI IS PRETTY MUCH MY FAVORITE FROM DNA. He and Miyuki are the only two that I can actually write, to be honest, but Mei is definitely my favorite and the idea of pulling an indirect compare-contrast with him and Imayoshi was irresistible.

I am SO GLAD that you picked up on the hints about love bites/off reactions since this does actually belong to a string of Hunger Games AUs I wrote for Imayoshi/Hanamiya and fits in that universe. I love thinking about the details of universes, even if I don't get a chance to use/show all of them, so you saying that ti actually COMES THROUGH as being just a tiny slice of a larger poisoned pie is thrilling. :D

And yes. Imayoshi can't, won't, tell Mei what happens to Victors or why Mei shouldn't want to win.

He gives Mei the best advice he can and hopes that Mei understands (and hopes, even harder, that Mei will follow it).

The attention Hanamiya places on the uniform, about how he was discarded with the middle school uniform, is a really subtle and lovely way to show how displaced they've become with Imayoshi's graduation. The parallel use of the basketball was also really well done.

At the end, there's a strange feeling of being both stripped of pretense and lingering in it-- as though we are looking through a filter at the scene, where something is entirely lost to us.

asdlaskdjsl; There is something in my heart that felt ridiculously fond at the line When Imayoshi still looked disbelieving, Hanamiya gave an angry jerk of his head and said, "You'll see. Two months from now, I'll be in love with someone else!" and then it turned sharp and painful when there were Imayoshi chocolates, as though the edges of the unrequited love were sharp enough to make you bleed.

CONSIDERING WHAT I HAVE DONE TO YOU IN THE PAST (I will always laugh at your 'weird the Days tag was left in... oh no the DAYS tag was left in!), I do not blame you at all for wondering if you could trust my idea of 'cute'. Especially when I also warned for underage relationship and when it is THESE CHARS.

Hanamiya really is not happy that Imayoshi graduated and left him to lose to Teiko AGAIN. But mostly the part about being left behind. I actually hate their middle school uniform but I can see Hanamiya thinking the beige (so neutral, so seemingly harmless) suits Imayoshi better than stark black-blue that's all professional and makes Imayoshi seem even paler.

OH. HAVE YOU SEEN J-WORLD HANAMIYA? he wears a spider broach on his suit. It killed me.

Hanamiya and Imayoshi get to keep their mystique even from the reader. Their most private moments can only be watched in a mirror, a reflected backwards version of reality. Some things can never been stared at directly.

The fact that Hanamiya has no dialogue here is /fascinating/, because his reactions are more than communicative enough but--

the use of trained and teething brings to mind ferality, and the scattered lines of grinding and gnawing throughout bring to mind a power balance that goes beyond trainer and beast. (Offhandedly, I also now know what a spider gag is! Although it is still a bit over my head in terms of why it would be more practical?)

This was so sharp!

The first part felt like a gentle stab between the ribs, a moment where you should have seen the knife coming but it's still a shock when it pierces you. It felt like the start to a tragic!Hanamiya, and then the second part was a kick in the throat, a reminder of the shift from tenderness to possessiveness from the first part. What a terrifying love.

Oh my god. okay. um.

Ball gags fill the mouth. When they're in someone's mouth, they can't bite down but their mouth also can't be stuffed with anything else.

A spider gag usually has an o-ring in the middle which a penis or dildo can pass through. It's like an ring gag, which is basically the same as a spider gag but without the legs that dig into the cheeks so a ring gag can be flipped easily by the tongue of the person wearing it. The gagged person can rotate the ring and thus free their teeth again to bite or whatever.

A spider gag is immovable. The metal legs go over their cheeks and keep the ring in place so the person that's gagged has no chance to bite down or protest while their mouth is used.

I'm not sure WHY I wanted to write a drabble where Hanamiya never gets to say anything but at least it demonstrated how well Imayoshi knows him/understands his reactions? Also it's possible to bite someone hard enough to break their fingers so! Imayoshi definitely is taking a risk here and testing his control/trust of Hanamiya by putting his fingers where Hanamiya can gnaw them.

Despite the serious consideration of blackmail and /sleeping with Imayoshi's father/, the progression of this was so logical but in such a strangely sensible way (with the Hanamiya definitely wouldn’t want to fuck anyone that had sex with his mother. He can sympathize with Imayoshi there. oh my g o s h).

YEAH HANAMIYA IS NOT A TRAGIC HERO, he will never be the victim whom you pity. If there is something wrong with his life, he will step up and fix it, even if it means being a monster.

He'd rather be a monster than a victim. He'd rather ruin Imayoshi's life to give Imayoshi nowhere to go than ever, EVER let go of Imayoshi It's terrifying and obsessive and it's the closest that Hanamiya will ever get to love.
