Bonus Round 1: Quotes

Bonus Round 1: Quotes

SASO 2015 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

PLAY BALL! For this round, we'd like you to take inspiration from songs, sayings, poems, and other kinds of famous words.

Because this is our first full round, please read this post carefully before proceeding!

This round ends at 7PM on June 13 EDT. Countdown Timer.

RULES
  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post with a quote attributed to a specific person or character, along with any ship/ot3/etc. from one of our nominated fandoms.
    • Example: "Hi-ho, Kermit the Frog here!" -Kermit the Frog
    • The quote can come from anywhere. Famous people, poetry, songs, books, movies, your neighbor, etc.
    • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Yachi & Kiyoko). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Yachi/Kiyoko). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • Fill prompts by replying to the prompt with your quote-inspired fanwork.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.
  • You cannot fill your team's prompts or your own prompts.

SCORING
These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many prompts/fills as you want!

For prompts: 5 points each (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

For fills:

First 3 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 4-10: 10 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each
Fills 21+: 2 points each

All scored content must be created new for this round.

Etc.
If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only.

Have a question? Check The FAQ first. If you still need help, feel free to contact the mods. Happy fanworking!

Warnings: manga spoilers

Losing, for lack of a better word, sucks. They know the feel of defeat, the weight it brings and the doubts and regrets that accompany it.

But that never stops them from trying again.

Year after year, their team could never make it to Nationals. They would always fall short, right before the goal.

But that never stopped them from working harder in practice and fighting to try and get there again.

But suddenly, when there is no more opportunity for them to achieve that goal, defeat feels more crushing than it ever has. It’s one thing to lose—loss is always a possibility, no matter how hard they’ve worked—but it’s another to lose when it was their last chance to reach their goal in high school, their last match.

After they had lost, and had to face each other, their teammates, and the crowd, as well as the reality of it, Iwaizumi feels a rush of emotions all at once.

Sadness, that this is it. That one match ended their high school volleyball careers. That this is probably the last time he will stand on the court with Oikawa. With Hanamaki. With Matsukawa. With everyone. That it had ended in a loss.

Frustration. That they had been so close and they had come up short again. That if he had done a few things differently, maybe they wouldn’t be standing here in defeat rather than victorious.

Failure. That he, the team’s ace, hadn’t been able to carry them to victory. That he couldn’t play his part better and raise them to the top rather than what they had ended up with.

But then, Oikawa wraps an arm around his shoulder. It’s quick, but a comforting motion. One that, however brief it may be, conveys so much and says that it will be okay.

Hanamaki and Matsukawa follow Oikawa’s lead. Their gestures, their support is comforting in the moment of defeat, the moment Iwaizumi feels at his lowest.

(Of course, the feeling doesn’t disappear that easily, and it will take time to get over. But for now, this, along with the gentle nudge of Iwaizumi’s shoulder that Oikawa gives him as they walk away, is enough.

Later, they can help each other stand back up again. Like always.)

They’ll do what they always do. Even when they are defeated, they get back up. Even when everything seems hopeless or like they can’t move forward, they fight to prove that idea wrong.

High school volleyball may have ended in a loss, but that doesn’t mean that they will let defeat keep them down.

They’ll stand up again.
