Bonus Round 1: Quotes

Bonus Round 1: Quotes

SASO 2015 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

PLAY BALL! For this round, we'd like you to take inspiration from songs, sayings, poems, and other kinds of famous words.

Because this is our first full round, please read this post carefully before proceeding!

This round ends at 7PM on June 13 EDT. Countdown Timer.

RULES
  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post with a quote attributed to a specific person or character, along with any ship/ot3/etc. from one of our nominated fandoms.
    • Example: "Hi-ho, Kermit the Frog here!" -Kermit the Frog
    • The quote can come from anywhere. Famous people, poetry, songs, books, movies, your neighbor, etc.
    • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Yachi & Kiyoko). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Yachi/Kiyoko). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • Fill prompts by replying to the prompt with your quote-inspired fanwork.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.
  • You cannot fill your team's prompts or your own prompts.

participant 9 here. i don't really have an explanation for this other than it was inspired by buster keaton. enjoy??

nishinoya sees the flyer plastered outside his favorite bakery where his best friend works (thanks for the bread asahi-san! see you later!) and tears it off the window. he stares at it and his eyes widen.

HIRING: PRODUCTION ASSISTANT
NEEDED FOR NEW SILENT FILM PRODUCTION, FIRST OF ITS KIND
CONTACT: ENNOSHITA CHIKARA, 879 CROW LANE

there's a picture of the ennoshita chikara fellow in the bottom right hand corner, and nishinoya looks at it with intrigue. he stuffs the bread in his mouth in order to pull out his pocket-watch. 4:03 p.m. the day's still young. nishinoya heads over to crow lane.

the address is home to a small rectangular building, one floor, and painted in black all over. it's a little longer than the average house and looks fairly unassuming. it's also further away from the city and isolated from any other houses on the block, standing by itself in the middle of a large clearing. that makes sense, nishinoya thinks. they probably need all the room for all the cool scenes they must shoot. he walks up to what looks like the front door, also outlined in all black but somehow blacker than the rest of the building, and knocks.

the door swings open and the face from the poster is all too real in front of nishinoya.

"hello," ennoshita greets, eyes managing to look the slightest bit shocked despite how droopy and sleepy he looks. "how can i help you?"

nishinoya feels the bread settle in his stomach and gulps. he pulls out the now crumpled up flyer from his pocket and shoves it in ennoshita's face.

"'i'm nishinoya yuu. i heard you were hiring for something that's the first of its kind!" nishinoya grins and points a thumb at himself. "i want in."

"ah yes," ennoshita says. "we're working on a new silent film called sherlock jr. the techniques we're using are...different and brand new. do you have any experience with film making?"

"nope!" nishinoya replies enthusiastically.

ennoshita smiles warmly. "that's good then." he steps out of the doorway. "please come in." nishinoya feels his stomach drop; ennoshita chikara is ridiculously nice, kind of charming, and his face is a marvel to look at. he hopes this building is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. he wasn't quite prepared to deal with this up close quite yet but no risk, no reward.

"these are some of the other people who work here at karasuno studios." ennoshita gestures over to a pair fixing up a camera.

"kinoshita hisashi," one of them says.

"narita kazuhito," says the other.

"the rest are out right now." nishinoya nods. kinoshita and narita wave and nod to him before going back to their work and nishinoya doesn't get particularly bad feelings about any of them. their location and work environment are a little strange but who is nishinoya to judge when he doesn't know much about the film industry? he's here for the cool sounding job and honestly also because ennoshita has a strange pull to him.

ennoshita is half behind a black curtain near one end of the building and he waves nishinoya over. noya jogs over to him and ennoshita stops him right outside the curtain.

"before you go behind this curtain, you have to promise you're on board. there's no backing out."

nishinoya thinks about it for a second. it's hasty and a bit fast but it sounds exciting and fun and cool and ennoshita is there so nishinoya sticks out his hand. "it's a promise." ennoshita shakes it and nods. he crooks a finger to tell nishinoya to follow him and noya pushes back the curtain.

it's a theater room, seating maybe thirty or forty people, and nishinoya nearly chokes on his gasp. this definitely does not look like it should be here considering how small the building looked on the outside.

"ahem," ennoshita coughs. "so nishinoya, have you ever seen a silent film?"

he nods.

"well, silent films rely a lot on editing in order to splice scenes a particular way, like an overlay effect. we've found something a little better." ennoshita gestures for nishinoya to take a seat, and he complies, watching as ennoshita walks up the steps to the stage. "now, if you would, kinoshita." he yells.

something in the back clicks and a projection of a front door shows up on the screen behind him.

"are we watching a movie?!" nishinoya yells, vibrating in his seat.

"not quite." ennoshita smiles. then he steps into the theater screen and places a hand on the doorknob.

nishinoya jumps from his seat. "ennoshita?! chikara?! what?!!" he climbs onto the stage to investigate. that has to be an illusion. there's no way ennoshita just stepped into the screen. he hears snickering from the back and whips his head around. probably that kinoshita guy, he thinks. it has to be a joke. when he turns back to the screen, ennoshita's hand is sticking out while the rest of him is still very much inside the screen, leaning against the door.

"join us?" ennoshita asks, his voice slightly garbled. nishinoya pokes the theater screen to no avail. his finger doesn't get sucked through like ennoshita did just now. he thinks about it for a second. he clasps onto ennoshita's hand, feeling that it is indeed very real and there. nishinoya grins. no risk, no reward.
