Because this is our first full round, please read this post carefully before proceeding!

Fill: Team Kageyama Tobio/Oikawa Tooru, G
----
“oikawa-san, teach me how to serve.”
the line is, by now, redundant; all worn out from overuse, its meaning wearing off and eroded to nothingness by repetition and time. yet the fervor accompanying the question is an undying flame, and oikawa sighs, a puff of annoyance escaping him.
“really, tobio-chan.” he deadpans as he absently tosses a volleyball into the air, watches as gravity pulls it back down into his outstretched palms. “you already know how to.”
kageyama does not refute this statement. oikawa-san is right; he was never taught, after all, so kageyama sat and resorted to studying his form instead; how he leaps into the air and smacks the ball into the other side of the court, and adapted that form for himself.
regardless, he does not relent, sitting down next to oikawa on the floor of the gym, and repeats his question.
oikawa doesn’t push kageyama away; instead, he closes his eyes and exhales. “why do you want me to teach you so badly, anyway? you already know how, and you know that.”
silence, and for a while, there is only the squeaking of shoes against polished floorboards, the rebounding of volleyballs against the court and echoes of “nice serve!” “don’t mind!” and varieties of encouragement. oikawa’s beginning to think that kageyama has given up on the pursuit, when:
“i don’t know,” oikawa hears, sheepish, “i just felt like it.” oikawa feels rather than sees the shrug against him— when had kageyama leaned on him?
“i just felt like asking.” kageyama repeats again, shutting his eyes. “it’s fine if you don’t want to, really!” he tacks on hastily, “i mean.”
i mean i nearly got decked for it, so.
oikawa sighs again for the third time that entire conversation. “you’re persistent.” he grumbles, “annoying and persistent. i’ve said no all those years ago, and you follow me all the way here. what makes you think i’d say yes this time, tobio?”
kageyama furrows his brows. “maybe because now you’re in college and maybe you learned a better technique and.”
(and i can’t watch you, but kageyama leaves that unsaid.)
“why would i teach my rival how to?!” oikawa grumbles, “no’s a no!”
“because you’re the best person i know,” kageyama says, straightforward and more certain from the way he’d said “i don’t know” the first time, “because you’re really good and i can’t think of anyone else to ask.”
this time it is oikawa who’s stunned into silence; after all this time, after having beat him in the inter-highs his third year, kageyama still thinks he is “the best” and it simultaneously makes his heart soar and drop.
for a moment he regrets not having treated him better in his earlier years, but he knows now that it’s passed; it being his jealousy and irrational anger towards this boy. he’s beyond that now. not having this boy overshadow him in college, the distance between them… it has helped.
five years ago he would have decked kageyama.
present time, oikawa just snorts.
“flattery won’t get me to teach you, tobio-chan~.”
kageyama’s indignant expression sets off a laughter in him.
(and this time, it’s not mocking.)
