SASO 2015 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

PLAY BALL! For this round, we'd like you to take inspiration from songs, sayings, poems, and other kinds of famous words.

Because this is our first full round, please read this post carefully before proceeding!

This round ends at 7PM on June 13 EDT. Countdown Timer.

RULES

Submit prompts by commenting to this post with a quote attributed to a specific person or character, along with any ship/ot3/etc. from one of our nominated fandoms.
- Example: "Hi-ho, Kermit the Frog here!" -Kermit the Frog
- The quote can come from anywhere. Famous people, poetry, songs, books, movies, your neighbor, etc.
- Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Yachi & Kiyoko). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Yachi/Kiyoko). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
Fill prompts by replying to the prompt with your quote-inspired fanwork.
Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

SCORING

These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many prompts/fills as you want!

For prompts: 5 points each (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

For fills:

First 3 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 4-10: 10 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each
Fills 21+: 2 points each

All scored content must be created new for this round.

Midorima has just finished lunch when the attending nurse informs him of the new patient. Years of practicing pediatrics has drilled the routine in his head, so Midorima grabs his clipboard and nudges the door to the exam room open with his back. He opens his mouth with the standard greeting, then freezes.

There are a many ways in which Midorima envisioned running into his first love-- at a reunion with their high school teammates, at the convenience store while grabbing the last bottle of shuriko, and maybe even on the streets. If Midorima was honest, the nagging possibility had been on his mind since Takao returned to Tokyo. Still, he doesn't expect Takao to be waiting in the exam room with a child in his lap.

Takao opens his mouth to say something, but the child buries his face in Takao's neck and makes a whining sound. "Come on, Yuto. The doctor needs to examine you," Takao says, his voice a comfortable medium between soothing and amused. He looks up and gives Midorima a wry smile. "Eh, hi?"

"Hello," Midorima says, for lack of a better response. He focuses on Yuto and takes a seat, flipping through the forms Takao had filled out at the reception. "What seems to be the problem?"

After a moment, Takao turns Yuto around and gently nudges him towards Midorima. "I think he has an ear infection? He's been whining and complaining all day. I downloaded an app on my phone that was supposed to diagnose it, but-"

"An app on your phone," Midorima repeats in disbelief. If anything, this is a classic Takao move, and Midorima tries his best not to scoff. Then he remembers his manners and pulls the otoscope out of the pockets of his lab coat. "May I look at your ear please, Yuto-san?"

Yuto looks at the device suspiciously and scoots closer to his father, which makes Takao laugh.

"Yuto," Takao pokes the kid's cheeks, which makes him pout. "Midorima-sensei is actually one of daddy's friends, so that means he's your friend too. I know he looks... um... Super professional and serious, but he's really good at his job."

Something settles in the depth of Midorima's stomach at the confirmation. Midorima had heard from more than one person about Takao's life, so this really shouldn't be a surprise. He nods when Yuto comes to him and peers up through dark bangs, his eyes large and familiar. "How do you feel?" Midorima asks.

"It hurts," Yuto replies, plain and simple.

"Okay," Midorima says. "Sensei is going to use this device to examine your ear. It won't hurt at all, but I need you to stay still, okay?" When Yuto nods, he aligns the pneumatic otoscope with his ear and takes a look. Sure enough, there's visible redness in the middle ear and perforation in the eardrums.

"Well?" Takao asks.

"Your son has an ear infection," Midorima says, grabbing the nearest notepad and scribbling something down. "I'm prescribing antibiotics to help it heal faster. If the pain is too much, you can also purchase over the counter ear drops to relieve it. I'm writing down the brand I recommend." He turns to Yuto. "Does your ear hurt very often?"

A small shake of the head, followed by rather cheerful, "nah!"

"Good," Midorima says with a small smile, then pulls out his card. "The infection should heal in two to three days with treatment. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to call the office number. The nurse will transfer the call to me if you have any questions she can't answer." He watches as Yuto snatches the card, hurries back into Takao's arms, and gives it to him.

"Do you have any other questions?" Midorima asks, biting the inside of his cheeks.

Takao strokes Yuto's hair and grins at him. "Are you always on duty in this hospital?"

The conversation is going something Midorima doesn't want it to go, but he does his best to be professional. "Yes. I'm one of the five attending pediatricians here."

"I'm glad," Takao says, apropos to nothing. "We just moved into the area two months ago. I'm glad to see a friendly face."

Midorima wants to ask if that's all he is to Takao, but stops before he embarrasses himself further. "If you don't have any other questions, please go to the pharmacy on the first floor to pick up your medication."

Thankfully, Takao doesn't say anything else as he leads Yuto out by the hand. Yuto gives Midorima a small wave before they disappear into the hallway.

Midorima is still in the examination room when Kato-sensei comes by twenty minutes later. Midorima's hands have stopped shaking by then, but Kato-sensei still frowns in concern and asks him to rest more. In the break room, Midorima goes through his contacts list and wonders who he could possibly call at 2 PM on a Wednesday afternoon. Takao had always been his go-to person, but now they were… They were…

The irony of it all was that Yuto looked just like Takao. On days that Midorima is foolish enough to recall high school, the empty gym after basketball practice, and lazy kisses in the back of broken rickshaws, he’d remember that he, too, had once yearned to start a family with Takao.
