SASO 2015 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).
PLAY BALL! For this round, we'd like you to take inspiration from songs, sayings, poems, and other kinds of famous words.
Because this is our first full round, please read this post carefully before proceeding!
This round ends at 7PM on June 13 EDT. Countdown Timer.
RULES
- Submit prompts by commenting to this post with a quote attributed to a specific person or character, along with any ship/ot3/etc. from one of our nominated fandoms.
- Example: "Hi-ho, Kermit the Frog here!" -Kermit the Frog
- The quote can come from anywhere. Famous people, poetry, songs, books, movies, your neighbor, etc.
- Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Yachi & Kiyoko). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Yachi/Kiyoko). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!

hello i'm so sorry this isn't as long or good as you may have liked ;_; i've never written free! at all before but i saw queerplatonic and had to jump on it so i hope you enjoy it even the slightest!!
Australia is terrible, except for the very end. Haru spends the entire time being dragged around, unable to understand virtually anything, and Rin continuously wanders off without him for various lengths of time, leaving Haru to have a very contained freak-out until he spots Rin bounding back to him, usually with tickets to something in hand.
Still, though.
He does appreciate parts of it. Rin took the time to bring him here, to introduce him to a family that he found and loves, and show him parts of his life that no one's seen. That counts for something.
They get back from the pool, glistening, seemingly endless, and though Haru is wary, still, may always be, ... he thinks he could want that, maybe. Swimming competitively doesn't have to mean swimming solely to win -- he can swim for himself, to push himself, and if he happens to bring some pride to his parents and country, that's okay, he supposes.
It's not necessarily what he wants. He has time, though, to see if it is -- he can change his mind. If a spontaneous trip to Australia has proved anything, it's that life can take sudden turns.
Haru's quiet all the way back to the hotel, though Rin chatters away, carefree and looking so light in terms of weight on his back that Haru feels a little jealous. Glad for him, sure -- it's much better than a desperate, angry sort of Rin, and much more like the Rin he used to know, anyway -- but the envy's still there, because Haru's stomach is still in knots over dealing with everything when he gets back to Japan.
He can see the looks Rin keeps shooting him, excited and anticipatory, like he's waiting for Haru's thoughts and feelings in detail, which isn't going to happen.
It's only after they're in pajamas and under the covers that Haru opens his mouth to say, "thanks," a little muffled by the pillow.
Rin turns on his side, Haru can tell, to get a good look at Haru's back rather than his face, unfortunately for him, but reaches out nonetheless -- a hand on Haru's shoulder, a thumb rubbing its blade.
"You don't have to say that if you didn't actually get something out of this." There's a little laugh in his tone, the type of warm, understanding voice that Haru values in several people, and has missed in Rin.
He shrugs. "Maybe."
"Fair enough." Rin goes quiet, too, now. For a moment, at least. "Whatever you figure out, though, let me know? And keep in touch."
He feels bad, really, for what comes out of his mouth next -- Haru's not the type to lash out at his friends, usually, simply because he so rarely feels any frustration that strongly. Now, though, with all this stress and the future looming ahead of him... "Not like you?" Rin hadn't kept in contact at all when he left so long ago, and the frustration Haru's carrying now is that of a much younger self; the hurt carried by a little kid who isn't so easy to forgive.
"No. Not like me." It's not really an apology, but that's alright. Haru doesn't want to berate him, not really, especially given what Rin was going through in Australia -- it's not like it was all fun. He'd like to be different this time, though -- he'd like to keep Rin in his life, now.
"Okay." Maybe they'll see each other at competitions. Send emails back and forth, maybe Skype, who knows. Maybe Rin will come visit his mother and sister and Haru can go see him then, too. That could be okay, he thinks.
There are a lot of things still left unsaid, Haru knows, and surely Rin knows too, but Rin tugs on his arm and Haru rolls over to face him and gets a kiss on the forehead, soft, apologetic, promising, and he thinks it'll be okay. The future doesn't have to be entirely uncharted territory. He can lean on his friends. He can hold onto some familiar things.
Tomorrow, he'll go face things -- but not before Rin falls asleep on his shoulder on the plane, and not before Haru slips a hand into his, squeezing tight.
