Bonus Round 1: Quotes

Bonus Round 1: Quotes

SASO 2015 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

PLAY BALL! For this round, we'd like you to take inspiration from songs, sayings, poems, and other kinds of famous words.

Because this is our first full round, please read this post carefully before proceeding!

This round ends at 7PM on June 13 EDT. Countdown Timer.

RULES
  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post with a quote attributed to a specific person or character, along with any ship/ot3/etc. from one of our nominated fandoms.
    • Example: "Hi-ho, Kermit the Frog here!" -Kermit the Frog
    • The quote can come from anywhere. Famous people, poetry, songs, books, movies, your neighbor, etc.
    • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Yachi & Kiyoko). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Yachi/Kiyoko). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • Fill prompts by replying to the prompt with your quote-inspired fanwork.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.
  • You cannot fill your team's prompts or your own prompts.

SCORING
These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many prompts/fills as you want!

For prompts: 5 points each (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

For fills:

First 3 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 4-10: 10 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each
Fills 21+: 2 points each

All scored content must be created new for this round.

Etc.
If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only.

FILL: TEAM AOYAGI HAJIME/TESHIMA JUNTA, G

This screamed "breakup" to me. So...

Word count: 817
Warnings: Angst?

During middle school, they were the best of friends. Nearly inseparable. Tall, awkward Ashikiba and tiny, outgoing Teshima, an unlikely pair, but between cycling and music they came together and stuck. They liked to ride around town together, racing between street signs and stopping off at arcades or convenience stores. Or Ashikiba would play the piano – beautiful, complex symphonies, his natural rhythm and long fingers granting him the skill and joy of music. Teshima would sit beside him or stand in front of the piano and improvise words, quick, witty rhymes and jokes about their teammates and friends, and they would play and sing together until they were both laughing too hard to continue.

It was in their last semester that things started to change. Teshima started noticing things – little things, like the pops of reds and blues and golds when Ashikiba’s hair reflected the sun, and how Ashikiba rubbed at his birthmark when he was happy, and how gentle Ashikiba was with his hands. Little details and quirks that he never noticed about anyone else. Things that made his stomach muscles clench and his heart pound in his ears. But Teshima had always been smart, so it didn’t take him very long to figure out what it meant. What did take some time was deciding what to do about it.

In the end, after weeks of running scenarios and dialogues in his head, Teshima finally thought “screw it,” grabbed Ashikiba by the shirtfront, and yanked him down into a kiss before immediately panicking and running away.

That was their last day of middle school. Memorable, if nothing else.

Memorable in a bad way, at first. Teshima spent the first three days of the break alternating between crushing melancholy and equally-as-crushing panic – until the fourth morning, when Ashikiba showed up at his doorstep with fidgety feet and pink cheeks and said that he really hadn’t minded the kiss and that, perhaps, they could do it again. Teshima had agreed enthusiastically.

It was wonderful. They had always been close, and this was just a new level to their relationship. More physical, more intimate, more emotional. Teshima, demonstrative by nature, loved having somewhere outside of his family to direct his affections. Ashikiba loved being the one to receive those affections. They were glued together. Sometimes at the hips, sometimes at the lips. It was fun and easy.

Then high school started. Teshima was staying in Chiba, because the school’s academics were strong and he wasn’t planning to continue with athletics, anyway. But Ashikiba went all the way to Hakone, and it was far. Too far to see each other often, but they promised to message and call and visit when they could.

And it worked, at first. Teshima loved emoticons and sent Ashikiba reams of emails dotted with the little faces.

good morning shikiba ! (-‿◦*)

I wanted to let you know I joined the bicycle team after all (^~^) so maybe we’ll get to race each other sometime ! that would be fun “ヽ(´▽`)ノ” I bet you’d still beat me though( ̄□ ̄;)

I met a new friend here, his name is aoyagi, I think you’d like him !。^‿^。 when can you come home ? I’ll introduce you

going to karaoke tonight !! I’ll sing a song for you (*⌒▽⌒*)θ~♪

haven’t heard from you in a while, everything ok over there ?

shikiba I miss you

Teshima quickly discovered that Ashikiba’s endearing flakiness was decidedly less endearing when it meant that he forgot to charge his phone for a week or didn’t remember the password to his email account.

He needed reciprocation. He needed it and he wasn’t getting it and he didn’t know what to do. It made him snappish and distracted and every time his phone buzzed in his pocket he jumped for it, scrabbling it open with the lost hope that maybe, this time

But it never was. Or, on those blessed, rare occasions when Ashikiba’s phone was charged and turned on, he just responded in garbled half-sentences or one-word answers to questions and didn’t give Teshima anything to build a conversation from, or he’d disappear without a word after a few back-and-forth exchanges.

It hurt. The logical part of Teshima knew that it was just how Ashikiba was, it was just what he did, he had always hated using his phone because the buttons were too small, but with a two-hour chasm between them it was starting to feel more and more like dismissal. Disinterest. And damn, did it hurt.

aoyagi and I won a race today . we’re a good team . we might even be able to catch you now .

Then, after two weeks of complete radio silence –

I can’t do this anymore . sorry shikiba .

Ohohohohoh! This was really nice because I'd never considered that Shikiba may be the one to cause an end to their relationship, even if he isn't the one to initiate the breakup. But it makes total sense that it'd happen like this. Excellentttttt. BREAKUP ASHITE IS MY FAVOURITE ASHITE.

Thanks! As soon as I saw the prompt I thought "I need to do this" but it took me so long to figure out how it happened. And then I remembered that Ashikiba never remembers to charge his phone and from there it was obvious what would happen. What can I say, I love Shikiba but they can't be together for me because of T2. So yeah, breakup AshiTe :p

Thanks, I'm glad you (sort of) liked it!
Here's hoping that canon Teshima and Shikiba get a somewhat happier resolution. I hope we get to see them become friends again.
