Bonus Round 1: Quotes

Bonus Round 1: Quotes

SASO 2015 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

PLAY BALL! For this round, we'd like you to take inspiration from songs, sayings, poems, and other kinds of famous words.

Because this is our first full round, please read this post carefully before proceeding!

This round ends at 7PM on June 13 EDT. Countdown Timer.

RULES
  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post with a quote attributed to a specific person or character, along with any ship/ot3/etc. from one of our nominated fandoms.
    • Example: "Hi-ho, Kermit the Frog here!" -Kermit the Frog
    • The quote can come from anywhere. Famous people, poetry, songs, books, movies, your neighbor, etc.
    • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Yachi & Kiyoko). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Yachi/Kiyoko). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • Fill prompts by replying to the prompt with your quote-inspired fanwork.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.
  • You cannot fill your team's prompts or your own prompts.

SWAG PARTICIPANT #88
Sorry, this wasn't what you wanted...

They make love for the first time in the winter.

They take shelter in an abandoned church, its walls and pillars strewn with overgrown vines and flowers blooming within the cracks. Oikawa lays Kageyama down on a church pew before leaning in himself to press his lips to Kageyama's, a nudge of his tongue enough for Kageyama to part his lips. Kageyama shivers against him and Oikawa chuckles into his mouth, his own cold hands slipping underneath Kageyama's shirt to warm themselves up.

"Trust me," Oikawa breathes into Kageyama's mouth before capturing it again.

Kageyama's body trembles in his hands and Oikawa slowly inhales as he sits up to watch, his fingertips brushing down the edges of Kageyama's torso. This is his, at least until the next morning. The fire next to them, strong for the next hour, illuminates Kageyama, a dance of sharp and soft shadows across his skin inviting Oikawa to leave his mark. He nips at the junction between Kageyama's neck and collarbone, teeth sinking in to leave behind a blotch of red and purple.

Their clothes are lying on the floor next to them, heavy from a day's worth of traveling and surviving. They unwind now, with delicate fingers running over aged scars and fresh wounds. Kageyama winces and Oikawa curses at particularly messy, painful touches—but it's a sign that they're still alive, in a world where everything else is dead.

The morning comes far too quickly for what should be winter. Oikawa is stirred from his drowsiness by the sound of something akin to a crash just outside the church walls, and the sound of strangled screams that come after it.

They have to run.

He grabs their stuff and shakes Kageyama by the shoulder. Before Kageyama can even react, Oikawa's already packed everything up—quick and easy from experience—and taking his hand so they can run before the church door bursts open just as the windows shatter. Kageyama looks behind, sleep gone from his wide eyes, only to see the undead filling the church like an infestation. It's just like the first time.

Miyagi's population was almost entirely dead within a week.

Neither of them talk as they dash through forest behind the church as fast as they possibly can. When they leap over the deceased, they don't even give a second glance; even just one second's delay can mean death. Those things move fast.

Adrenaline isn't enough after maybe fifteen minutes with all the baggage they have on their backs and the rough ground under their worn feet. Kageyama slows down just a little bit and Oikawa follows suit, as if he's sensed that they aren't keeping the same pace, before turning around. Kageyama clutches at his bent knees while trying to get as much air into his lungs as possible. He can feel the disapproval, picture the upturned lip on Oikawa's face though he stopped when he could've left him behind.

He looks up at Oikawa with only pants escaping his lips. It's less than a second that Oikawa has hands cupping Kageyama's face, pulling him in close and placing a chaste kiss on his lips.

"Don't be dumb, Tobio-chan," and their lips move together with every word that Oikawa exhales. He's just as breathless as Kageyama is. "We have to keep moving."

The next time they make love is quietly in an abandoned car on the west side of Tokyo, the only sign of life in the ruins.

The car shakes when Oikawa shoves his hips in, and they both still while the sound travels through the empty space surrounding them. Kageyama's eyes widen and he opens his mouth to say something, but Oikawa shuts him up with a rough kiss to his lips, his hands like a vice and cradle around Kageyama's head. Oikawa can almost feel the bruising, the ugly clash of teeth and tongue that is much quieter than the two of them will ever be apart.

The interior is cold, but it's the heat of their skins meeting that keep them warm. Oikawa shuts his eyes and slips his tongue into Kageyama's mouth, the taste of blood lingering from what must've been Kageyama biting too hard on his cheeks to stifle any fleeting noise.

There's only darkness outside when Oikawa slowly begins to move. They can't see but they can feel with their hands, trained for everything because that's what it takes to live, details that others would miss. Oikawa can feel the rough line of a scratch healing at the top of Kageyama's abdomen, uneven skin brushing against the pads of his fingers. He knows Kageyama to every turn and trace, and maybe only that—but it's more than he will ever know about the future. Their future. And he will take what he can get.

Oikawa sleeps too long—a miscalculation, really—and wakes only to the deafening sound of a gunshot. He startles awake and rushes over to the source of the sound, finding Kageyama standing there with his shaking hands holding a gun.

"Is there something?" Oikawa asks quietly. He doesn't see or hear anything coming, though.

"I, I thought," Kageyama stumbles, lips parted as he tries to find the words. There are still tremors in his hands when Oikawa takes them into his own. Oikawa leans in to distract him, his breath a comforting warmth in the middle of a frigid winter, and one that Kageyama receives greedily.

"Sily Tobio-chan, there's nothing out there," Oikawa whispers into his mouth, and he kisses and kisses, and Kageyama can feel Oikawa's fingers trembling around his. "Silly Tobio-chan, silly Tobio-chan..."

The next time they run, it's Oikawa that slows down. Kageyama stops to look behind him and sees Oikawa out of breath, more fresh blood than he usually sees. He steps closer and reaches an arm out to examine it, but Oikawa raises a hand before Kageyama can move any closer, only something reminiscent of a smirk on his lips before he grimaces.

"Don't..." Oikawa winces when he bends down a little, pressing his palms into a particularly red spot on his left shoulder. "You'll make it worse with how stupid you are, Tobio-chan."

His voice is light, Kageyama notes, but that blood on his shoulder is dark. Very dark. But not dark enough to be dry.

"I'm fine. One... of them just scratched me," Oikawa says. He slowly straightens up after with some difficulty. "We should go find somewhere for the night, though."

They make love for the last time at the end of winter, in someone else's bed in someone else's abandoned house, emptied by whoever had gotten there before them. The wallpaper is peeling, tinted grey by the cloudy skies filtering in through the windows, and the sheets are itchy but cleaner than everything they've ever slept on since they've been running.

Oikawa is between Kageyama's open legs, shirt off and wrapped around that shoulder from earlier. Before Kageyama can ask, Oikawa occupies his mouth with his fingers. Kageyama allows them in wordlessly, tastes the filth and the wounds that go beyond Oikawa's skin when he runs his tongue along those callused digits. His eyes are wide as he takes in Oikawa's reaction, cheeks barely illuminated a flushed red. There's a heat that washes over Oikawa when he feels Kageyama's lips close around his fingers—fingers that have taken lives, fingers that Kageyama willingly takes.

His breathing is shaky by the time that he's replaced those fingers with his mouth. Oikawa kisses until he cannot kiss anymore, until anything Kageyama wishes to say is stolen from his mouth, until the he cannot taste the blood anymore.

"Don't say anything, Tobio," Oikawa mutters and pins down the hand he sees going for that shoulder. His fingers, coiled tightly around those thin wrists, are shaking when Oikawa leans down to kiss Kageyama once more. Kageyama keeps silent.

Oikawa's head is in his lap. It's the beckoning of those hands that have Kageyama leaning down until their faces almost meet, lips mere centimeters apart. Oikawa's breath is still warm, melting all the ice of his harsh winter, unfurling against his skin in little puffs. They're kissing again, like it's the last time, and Kageyama only understands once he feels warm metal being pushed into his hands.

He pulls away, and there's a pistol sitting in his palms.
