Bonus Round 1: Quotes

Bonus Round 1: Quotes

SASO 2015 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

PLAY BALL! For this round, we'd like you to take inspiration from songs, sayings, poems, and other kinds of famous words.

Because this is our first full round, please read this post carefully before proceeding!

This round ends at 7PM on June 13 EDT. Countdown Timer.

RULES
  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post with a quote attributed to a specific person or character, along with any ship/ot3/etc. from one of our nominated fandoms.
    • Example: "Hi-ho, Kermit the Frog here!" -Kermit the Frog
    • The quote can come from anywhere. Famous people, poetry, songs, books, movies, your neighbor, etc.
    • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Yachi & Kiyoko). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Yachi/Kiyoko). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • Fill prompts by replying to the prompt with your quote-inspired fanwork.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.
  • You cannot fill your team's prompts or your own prompts.

as soon as I saw this I knew I had to fill it omg thank you for this beautiful prompt

no major content warnings; just passionate kisses

Attention (912 words)

It was a mild-mannered night, a night where the air was just warm enough to leave the hood on the shimmering crimson convertible down. The boy in the driver's seat let out a whoop that was immediately snatched away by the wind tearing around the vehicle, and the boy in the passenger's seat snickered fondly.

"You know there is such a thing as a speed limit?"

But he trusted the driver. It was a strange thought that made his heart flutter against his ribcage. Yes, he was comfortable with this reckless, wild behavior because he trusted the driver not to kill them both.

Being in love made him feel alive.

"Not for us!" the driver replied, then raised one fist in the air and gave another shout that was lost to the night sky. "Not tonight!"

Again the passenger laughed, but didn't reply; adjusted his glasses and looked away, a bit bashful in the face of the other's overwhelming enthusiasm.

"What, don't you think it's a beautiful night for a drive like this?" the driver asked teasingly.

The passenger rolled his eyes. "Nights like this are meant for... for picnics and that sort of thing, not vehicular stunts worthy of—"

Before he could finish the haughty statement, the driver leaned over and pressed a brief kiss to his startled lips. The passenger stalled; spluttered for a moment; rounded on him.

"E-Eyes on the road, Rin!"

"Then don't make me shut you up again," the driver replied smartly, swiping his tongue along his upper lip with a predatory grin.

The passenger cracked a somewhat nervous smile. "Rin, you do know that the statistics for crashes involving distracted driving are—"

Hardly in the mood to listen, the driver leaned over, catching his lover with his mouth open this time and taking the opportunity to slide his tongue inside the hot cavern. The passenger gave a muffled murmur of surprise, and then yelped against the driver's mouth as he felt the car swerve.

"I warned you, Rei," the red-haired boy whispered, upon drawing back. The bespeckeld boy shook his head furiously.

"Y-Y-You shouldn't do that!" he spluttered, face hopelessly flushed. "You almost lost control of the vehicle, I know you did! You felt that lurch, didn't you?! Distracted driving injures over 400,000 people a year, did you know that?!"

Rin rolled his eyes, momentarily returning his attention to the road. "Don't spit your depressing statistics at me," he scoffed. "Tonight isn't the night for it. We're out for a nice drive. It's too nice a night."

"A nice night to die, or so you seem to think!" the passenger shot back, and the driver heaved a put-upon sigh.

"The road is completely deserted. Who's even around to hit us?"

"That's not the point!" Rei exclaimed, but then his mouth was otherwise occupied yet again. He put up a muffled argument as Rin nipped at his bottom lip with sharp teeth; nibbled until his tongue could squirm inside and wrestle Rei's own into submission. When the bespeckled boy surrendered at last, he drew back.

"See? Not even a swerve!" he said gloatingly, patting the steering wheel as Rei gazed at him with stunned, glimmering eyes. A haughty smile stretched across his face as he continued, "So see? It really isn't nearly as bad as texting behind the wheel. That's when you're really asking for—"

But suddenly he was the one rendered speechless as the passenger leaned over, mashing their lips together in an eager, passionate kiss. Rin, before he knew exactly what he was doing, had one hand knotted in the other's dark blue hair— one hand still on the wheel, but paying precious little attention to the car otherwise. The kiss was sloppy, all bitten lips and muffled moans of names, and the convertible began to slow as their tongues picked up speed.

It didn't come to a stop, though; before it did, Rin's eyes slipped shut and he gave in completely to the kiss. Within seconds the car was skittering off the side of the road, both boys jarred by the impact of wheels on dirt. They were wrenched apart as the car crashed into the bushes, both of them whipped by stray branches as they barreled straight through the foliage and proceeded to roll to an unsteady stop at the bottom of an overgrown, thickly-shadowed ravine.

For a heartbeat, it was all they could do to simply stare ahead; turn slightly to stare at one another. Then suddenly the driver was laughing; it was only a moment before the passenger joined in, although perhaps he was crying just a bit, too, and shaking.

"Well, that'll teach me, I guess," Rin admitted breathily, tangling one hand in his own ruffled hair. Rei shook his head.

"I-I... I let my emotions... I-I mean..."

Rin laughed again, then deliberately turned off the still-humming car before leaning over into the passenger's personal space.

"At least we can focus on what's really important, now."

Rei tried to argue as he was kissed tenderly, but the gentle affections melted his protests completely. And there, in the distant light of the streetlights they had left far behind, the two boys lost themselves in the feeling of the other. All other cares— cares such as how to get the car back up the embankment —were abandoned as they devoted their attention to the kiss alone, a kiss that was what all kisses should strive to be.
