Bonus Round 4: Official Art

Bonus Round 4: Official Art

This round is CLOSED. Late fills can be posted, but they won't receive points.

Memorable canon moments, bizarre omakes, tantalizing magazine spreads—this is the round to explore them all. Bring out your screencaps, promotional art, and manga pages, and let's talk about what really happened.
Please read the rules carefully before posting!

RULES
  • Submit prompts in the form of a canon screencap from one of our nominated fandoms along with a ship. Screencaps can be from an anime or manga, as well as any other kind of offshoot media, e.g. official art, drama CD covers, light novel illustrations, magazine covers, and/or caps from games. Doujinshi, fan-made games or any other fan-created work should not be prompted, even if you receive permission. Only prompt screencaps that are taken from a piece of canon media.
  • Keep your prompt concise. Don't prompt a whole manga chapter, for example.
  • Upload the cap somewhere (imgur works well) and post here with the images themselves or a link to them.
  • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Riko & Momoi). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Riko/Momoi). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
  • Fill prompts by leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work inspired by the cap.
  • Fills can be directly connected to the cap, e.g. panel redraws or writing fic that fleshes out the moment that was capped or that fleshes out what happened directly before/after, but fills can also be more indirectly linked. As long as the work is somehow inspired by the cap, it counts.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

Title: Imprinting
Word Count: 446

It’s surprising that Haruka-senpai agreed to have a private swimming practice with Rei at the pool, and the younger swimmer is incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity. He really admires his senpai-turned-boyfriend, and that fact is no real secret to anyone. To Rei’s surprise, Haruka-senpai has offered to get him dinner, so the two of them are taking a shortcut through a park on the way to Haruka-senpai’s favorite restaurant. They’re walking by a pond at the center of the mostly-empty park when Rei spots a family of ducks and pauses, crouching down to get a better look at them. Haruka-senpai joins him after a moment.

“Ducks and other birds are incredibly interesting specimens of study,” Rei explains, a look of concentration crossing his face. He rubs his chin thoughtfully. “Once they hatch, they begin imprinting on the first thing they see, which is normally their parents. Ducklings learn everything about how to be a duck through watching their parents, and it all happens through imprinting.”

“Like you,” Haruka-senpai comments softly.

Rei looks over at him, confused. “Like me, senpai?”

“You’re imprinting on the rest of us.”

“I’m not some fledgling waterfowl simply following you all around!”

A couple of the ducklings look up at Rei, startled by his outburst, and peep at him. The mother duck quacks at him in disapproval, as well.

Haruka-senpai turns his gaze to Rei and lifts his hand toward his eyes to adjust nonexistent glasses much in the way Rei often does. His expression is completely stone-faced the entire time. “‘I only swim butterfly.’”

A blush floods Rei’s cheeks, looking back at the ducks. The mother duck quacks a few times at her ducklings and then swims off with her progeny paddling their feet quickly to keep up. Perhaps it is a bit like imprinting, Rei realizes. He’s learning a lot about several things from his teammates: how to swim, how to be part of a team, and how to stop focusing solely on theories and calculations. He has also learned quite a lot about socializing and friendship; before joining the swim club, he had little experience in those particular realms.

“I hope you don’t mind me learning from you, Haruka-senpai,” he murmurs bashfully, scratching his cheek.

“Of course not,” the ebony-haired swimmer responds with the faintest of smiles. “It’s flattering.”

Unconsciously, Rei matches his senpai’s small smile. He straightens up once more and adjusts the straps of his backpack. Haruka-senpai stands, as well, and they start down the path toward the restaurant again.

“I believe I’ll try the mackerel udon today,” Rei declares nonchalantly.

His smile growing, Haruka-senpai takes Rei’s hand and gives it a squeeze. “Definitely imprinting.”
