SASO 2015 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

All good things must come to an end, and that includes the SASO. In this last bonus round, let's all relax and celebrate each other's achievements!

(Don't forget about the "Encore" bonus round either!)

This round ends at 7PM on August 22 EDT. Countdown Timer.

Title: PTSD Recovery also feat. Midousuji

Why is this work awesome?: I thought it would be wise to read this at three am. Don't be me. Make sure you're ready. This fic packs an incredible amount of emotion and understanding into an incredibly small space, seriously examining the emotional repercussions of Midousuji's treatment of Imaizumi through the lens that is Kinjou's viewpoint. It is everything I have ever wanted out of kinima — careful support, sympathy, love — and I want everyone who remotely cares about either of these characters to read it.

Why is this work awesome?: Kite has a beautiful way with language. Her prose is perfectly crisp and incredibly precise in a way that makes everything she writes a joy to read. It's also the perfect framing for this story — quiet moments between Imaizumi and Kinjou after Imaizumi has graduated from Sohoku, and has come to live with Kinjou while attending Yonan University. It's quiet, understated, calming, and a really rewarding read for how it captures that particular mood.

Why is this work awesome?: What I like best about this fic is how well it captures Imaizumi's irrational feelings of paranoia. It's another story addressing how Imaizumi deals with their own brain after Midousuji's emotional manipulation, and it conveys the claustrophobic feeling inside their head uncannily well. The prose itself feels uncomfortable, before sliding into a rhythm that's easier to inhabit while still retaining some of that claustrophobic feeling, during the portion where Imaizumi and Kinjou have their back and forth. Very interesting execution, very nice comfort toward the end.

Tadokoro is a great character with a really appealing energy to him, and this is, therefore, a rec list of some great fics where he's the star of the show.


Title: Tadokoro/Arakita Fight

Why is this work awesome?: Have you ever wondered what Arakita thought about Fukutomi and Tadokoro's altercation during the previous interhigh? This fic answers that question, while giving screentime to two characters whose interaction in canon is limited to "being in the same frame and maybe saying a line or two in group conversation." The energy of the action is really great and there are some marvelously descriptive lines, most notably about Arakita and his "beast sense." Not to mention, the characterization of both Arakita and Tadokoro is spot on.

Why is this work awesome?: Mels' writing is characterized by a really snappy, tongue-in-cheek tone, which serves this fic well. Bumbling Tadokoro, seeking to catch up with the technological times, vastly underestimates the young Best Buy sales employee who offers to help him. Highly recommended for the humor as well as the characterization, because this fic is a perfect illustration of how Onoda works in taking other characters by surprise.

Why is this work awesome?: One of my favorite things is seeing loud, blustery Tadokoro flustered, and that is precisely what this fic delivers. It's a prequel to my tadotou bakeoff fic, focusing on how Tadokoro "prepares" to defeat Toudou in their amateur little competition. By which I mean: how Tadokoro badgers Makishima for Toudou's weaknesses, only for Makishima to tease him in return about the crush he clearly has. A very cute story featuring a very pitiless Makishima.

Why is this work awesome?: I can see Oikawa overworking himself for volleyball and Kuroo strikes me exactly as the kind of person that would both get under Oikawa's skin but also care deeply about him and this fic burned my ass. This entire fic expands on their relationship in this fashion and I love that Kuroo cares for Oikawa overworking himself when Oikawa is too stubborn to take it easy on himself.

Why is this work awesome?: Miyu writes some really snappy prose, of which this is a prime example. Kinjou and Tadokoro are portrayed perfectly in how expansive their personalities are, and the competition between them — because what is the pokeathlon if not a competition, and what's tadokin if it's not competitive? — is believably fierce. Makishima features as both viewpoint character and perfect counterpoint to Kinjou and Tadokoro's energy. If you love pokemon, read this for the attention to detail in portraying the universe. If you don't love pokemon, read it anyway for the love put into the characterization.

Title: ShinIma Team Rocket AU

Why is this work awesome?: In Chess' trademark style, this is a tense story, fraught with Imaizumi and Shinkai's shared need to withhold, to feel each other out. Shinkai is a Rocket executive. Imaizumi is a new recruit. What's interesting is the way Midousuji is brought in as a commonality between them, and what's rewarding for me is the socio-political dance that goes on as they get to know each other.

Why is this work awesome?: If you want a feel-good pick-me-up, read this fic. It perfectly captures the excitement of their biking against their friends, for the challenge of a race and for the goal of hatching their eggs. The little details are cute — about which pokemon they have, about Naruko challenging Onoda to climb Mt. Chimney despite always losing — and it's just a very cute little fic overall.

Each of their pokemon to warm their eggs!) Very cute, very recommended.

Sousuke as a single dad and Makoto as an elementary school teacher is a perfect enough AU already, but this fill was way more than I expected. Makoto and Sousuke's son, Takashi's relationship is just so, so sweet, and Sousuke struggling to keep his son happy despite being extremely busy, just...;A; I WANT A WHOLE TRILOGY.

Why is this work awesome?: When I prompted all these super angsty songs, I was expecting a super, super angsty fill, but instead I got this gorgeous thing. It was honestly just SO good?? How Sousuke and Makoto got closer and closer during their college years, harboring definite mutual feelings for each other until all of that came crashing down by one tiny mistake. And after a few lonely years spent longing for each other, they finally get direct about their feelings to each other, and get back what they had before - plus SO much more. The writing style was just so poetic and...right.

Why is this work awesome?: there’s a real sense of heightened drama here that i love *__*; it’s very sad, and very? tragic to see kageyama follow a path i’m yelling at him not to take LOL hsdfhf psiten always puts out great work but this is a real stunner, and the X/1999 hook just brought back everything for me. it functions as a really good fusion, too: the inherent laws of the borrowed universe are still in place, the character interactions are still intact, and that impending sense of doom is really really well-represented throughout !!! pls. break your heart with this :’)

Why is this work awesome?: ree i’m sorry but i mean i’m also really not because this made me laugh so hard i think i broke a rib or two. i lost it at you’re not even a cat because never in my wildest dreams did i think that 1) someone would fill this 2) would fill it so well 3) be the dw user ennoshita. every piece of dialogue here is something that’s entirely believable, and the kuroo’s internal monologue was so funny !!! i was just. kind of dying with him by laughing at him. 10/10 would read again.

Why is this work awesome?: hey, so, this fill hurt me a lot actually and i was incoherent for a while about it because there is nothing in this world that cuts to me so quickly like emoshinki. also chiharu does, as always, her best with dialogue so in-character it makes me angry. it does. look at how believable these lines are?? but it’s also more than banter, there’s a depth to this fill here that just pulls you in that i love. also i’d like to point out here the minami-chan character who has a backstory so detailed and great that i’m going to start pulling my hair out
