Bonus Round 2: AUs

Bonus Round 2: AUs

SASO 2015 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

This round is made for exploration of all those "what-if?" scenarios, like "what if my favorite sports anime was actually a spaghetti western?" or "what if everything was the same except everyone was actually a car?"

This round ends at 7PM on June 27 EDT. Countdown Timer.

RULES
  • Submit prompts by commenting to this post with an alternate universe idea, along with a ship from one of our nominated fandoms.
  • An AU could be a canon divergence, e.g. "what if [team] didn't win the Inter High in season 1, but [other team] did instead?", or a completely different setting altogether, e.g.s pop idol AU, coffee shop AU, superheroes AU, etc.
  • Fill prompts by leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

FORMAT
Bonus round shenanigans all happen in the comments below. Brand-new works only, please.

Required Work Minimums:
  • 400 words (prose)
  • 400px by 400px (art)
  • 14 lines (poetry)
There is no max work cap.

Format your comment in one of the following ways:

If PROMPTING: If FILLING: If FILLING as a TEAM GRANDSTAND participant:
PROMPT: TEAM [YOUR SHIP]
  • Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team you belong to, including Grandstand or Sports Teams
  • Place the prompt's relationship in the first bolded line of the comment. Including the canon isn't required, but it's nice.
  • Visual example

  • Replace RATING with the rating of your fill (G - E)

  • NSFW FILLS: Post written/text fills directly to the round with clear tags. Please link to art/visual fills. You can include a small safe-for-work preview if you'd like.
  • To place an image in your comment, use this code: <img src="LINK TO YOUR IMAGE" />
  • Visual example

Posts not using this format will be understood to be unofficial discussion posts, regardless of what they contain. They, like all comments in this community, are subject to the code of conduct.

SCORING
These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many prompts/fills as you want!

For prompts: 5 points each (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

For fills:

First 3 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 4-10: 10 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each
Fills 21+: 2 points each

All scored content must be created new for this round.

Etc.
If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only.

a lot of swears, 602 words.
in an ideal world with enough time/energy i will someday do this properly, but pls accept this small taste in the meantime.

"it's hard when you don't have a direction," kinjou says, a gentleness in his voice that arakita doesn't want to acknowledge.

"shut up," he says, wiping at the dirt on his face. his jersey is grassy, stained by the tumble he took earlier, a bright spark of pain on the inside of his cheek where his teeth scraped flesh. his elbow doesn't hurt; arakita wishes it did. it would make it easier to stay hostile. kinjou leans toward him, the black frames of his glasses corralling all the disgusting earnestness in his eyes into tiny rectangular windows, steady green irises burning on arakita's face.

"you've come this far," kinjou says. he smells like sweat and sunlight and compassion and arakita hates him a little. "you can go farther. what do you want?"

"i told you," he says. "i want you to shut up."i don't even know why i'm here, is what he means, and kinjou smiles like he understands. bastard.

"let's head back," kinjou says, standing up. he offers arakita a hand. "i'll buy you a drink."

"i don't want any of your goddamn fucking tea," arakita says, but he takes kinjou's hand and pulls himself up, winces at the soreness in his legs.

"you'll get used to it," kinjou says, and arakita doesn't bother asking which part he means.

*

two years later, the two of them limp up onto the interhigh podium with less hair and more scars, arms slung around one another's shoulders. tadokoro and makishima flank them on either side, and arakita isn't sure his feet are actually touching the ground. "you made it," tadokoro is saying, always so fucking loud, but arakita's head is swimming too fast for him to land his habitual snap.

"wouldn't miss it," kinjou says, grunts as they hit the steps. the first years are up there already, onoda staring at them with those giant moon eyes, and arakita snorts, trying for dismissive and landing on fond.

"you're all such freaks," he says, and kinjou squeezes his shoulder.

"takes one to know one," makishima says, and it's so stupid but they're all laughing by the time they take that tiny step up onto the winner's platform.

later, arakita sits beside kinjou in the van, listening to teshima's excited narration from the front seat. he looks at kinjou's profile, silhouetted against the window, a shifting blur of sea and sky. it's so familiar now that arakita could trace it with his eyes closed. the man who never gives up. fucking jerk.

"looks like we made it, old man," he says.

"you're eight months older than me," kinjou says mildly, looking up from his training diary.

arakita scoffs, waving the distinction away. "you're older than i'll ever be," he says, trying to ignore the fondness in kinjou's smile.

"we wouldn't have made it here without you," kinjou says, that same steadfast sincerity as the first time arakita failed to get a rise out of him. "thank you."

"don't get all sentimental on me," arakita says, trying to act like his chest isn't starting to ache with warmth.

kinjou just touches his shoulder, the way he does when he knows arakita isn't being honest, a signal that he knows but isn't going to push. arakita loves it and hates it at the same time. he pushes out a breath, leans into kinjou's palm.

"so," he says. "what now?"

kinjou looks at him, gentle and steady, the softness of his gaze glowing on arakita's skin as he says, "that's up to you, isn't it?"

arakita swallows and looks away. "yeah," he says. "i guess it is."

This was lovely. Small snapshots of grander things is really one of my favourite storytelling styles. Thanks for this!!
