Bonus Round 3: FSTs
Bonus Round 3: FSTs
This round is CLOSED. Late fills can be posted, but they won't receive points.
We're halfway through all the bonus rounds now. If you're like us, every love song on the radio seems to apply to your OTP. In this round we'd like you to serenade us with some of your top picks!
This round ends at 7PM on July 11 EDT. Countdown Timer.
RULES
- Submit prompts in the form of a short playlist (3-6 songs) and a ship from any of our nominated fandoms. Submit only the track listing and a link to where they can be listened to; the idea is for others to interpret what you present. You may also link to lyrics if you would like.
- Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Riko & Momoi & Alex). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Riko/Momoi/Alex). Please don't say "Any pairing," either.
- Create content based on the playlists of others! Fill prompts by leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work.
- Fills may be in any form you choose (except for another FST of course) as long as they are inspired by/fit the mood of the soundtrack they are filling for.
- Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.
- You cannot fill your teammates' prompts or your own prompts.

FILL: team daiya no ace, G
sweats i wrote like four different versions of this and this is the most coherent one. sometimes i have more feelings than words.
kouichirou knows regret is a heavy thing, the view from the dugout at the bottom of the ninth, a numbed arm, a cramped leg. a trip to the beach with his best friend during the last days of summer, broken promise lying in the sand between them like an open wound. looking at kaname framed against the sea, salt on kouichirou's lips and the sun in his eyes, things unsaid crowding the soft cavern of his mouth. it's a treasure chest without a key, a map without a compass.
kaname says i can't give up like this and kouichirou says nothing.
*
a year later, they drive up to koshien together to watch the finals, far away from the sea air and the lonely cry of gulls. in some ways it's more of a pilgrimage than a roadtrip, kouichirou's hand folded together on the dash and the sun haloing kaname's profile in a wash of heat and light. the imprint of it is stark on kouichirou's eyelids when he closes his eyes, but it always is. kaname is always there, between thoughts of stretching regimens and grip adjustments, natural as breathing. kouichirou wouldn't know how to stop thinking about him if he wanted to.
kouchirou's had so many lessons to learn and relearn in the last year, working his way up from the bottom on a new team, in a new place. he knows now that even when he isn't carrying the ace number, that weight never leaves, branded between his shoulder blades. failure and regret, a montage of things he could have done differently, the dangling thread of their pact to meet on the field as equals. use it for fuel or throw it away. dwelling on mistakes means repeating them. he's doing better, he is.
kaname shifts, fingers tapping the wheel to the beat of the song on the radio. kouchirou watches him, neatly buzzed hair and tanned hands, permanent furrow of his eyebrows making him look older than he is. this is a pilgrimage because they're both moving on.
later, they'll sit in the stands together, shoulders pressed tight and hands interwined between their knees. kouichirou figures kaname knows better than most what it's like to leave his heart out on the field and neither of them are here to collect debts. there's a prayer pressed between their palms, small and bright. this place and this dream are no longer attainable, but it's not the end, not for baseball and not for them.

the imagery in this is absolutely stunning. the pictures you paint in my head tell the story with such vivid emotion and context (even though i'm only like... a quarter into daiya, haha...)—the way you weave their past together and the promise they couldn't keep into the imagery!!!
that weight never leaves, branded between his shoulder blades
augh!! AUGH!! I LOVED THIS LINE SO MUCH!! i love how you referenced to the weight of being an ace, which is also something that daiya talks about so much. there is so much more to being an ace than being the most "noticeable/outstanding" one (which is where eijun currently is at my place in the manga); there is so much responsibility and burden to it. that is perfectly conveyed here, and i just adore the way you've had kouchirou stumble along, but also grow up from that experience.
your writing here is so lovely! so atmospherical, so ethereal, it feels like i'm reading something within a dream. i've always loved that whimsical feel and think it completely suits the tone you were going for here! the way your sentences roll into each other and just, idk, have emotions emanating from them just takes my breath away.
i am also so, so weak for character and relationship explorations and you've managed to squish that into 415 words by some divine force (cough your writing and brain cough).
THANK YOU AGAIN SO MUCH FOR THIS FILL!! I ABSOLUTELY ADORED IT EEEEEEP ♥︎
Re: FILL: team daiya no ace, G
i'm so glad you like this!! i'm constantly a mess abt how hard tanba's worked and how aversely his baseball career is affected by his terrible case of not the main character syndrome so i kept writing stuff and then deleting it bc i was like "this doesn't even make sense it's just me crying for a 100 words" hahah. my dream for him is to be able to grow and flourish properly in university and also to STOP INJURING HIMSELF so he can become the pitcher he was always meant to be.
i really liked the idea of them going to koshien together and sort of transmuting this unfulfillable promise into a new wish for the future and i'm so so glad it came through properly. thank you again, for the prompt and this lovely comment, it means a lot to me.
