Bonus Bonus Round: Encore

Bonus Bonus Round: Encore

SASO 2015 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

This is your last chance to get fills for unloved prompts from all previous rounds. Let's party!

(Pay attention to the prompt format this round, located below; it's different from previous rounds. Don't forget about the "Recs" bonus round either!)

This round ends at 7PM on August 22 EDT. Countdown Timer.

RULES
  • NO NEW PROMPTS ALLOWED. It has to be a repost from a previous bonus round.
  • You can repeat any previous bonus round prompt, whether it received fill(s) or not.
  • You can repeat your own prompts.
  • One prompt per post, post as many times as you want.
  • If you're posting a prompt that's not yours originally, please check the toplevels to avoid posting repeats.
  • Fills work the same way as every other round: don't fill your own or your teammates' prompts, including old reposted prompts. It works like this:
    • Your teammate posts a prompt that was originally posted by a different team? You can fill that.
    • Someone else posts a prompt originally created by you or your teammate? You cannot fill that.
    • You post a prompt originally posted by another team? You can't fill that either.
  • Fill prompts by leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work.
  • Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

FORMAT
Bonus round shenanigans all happen in the comments below. Brand-new works only, please.

Required Work Minimums:
  • 400 words (prose)
  • 400px by 400px (art)
  • 14 lines (poetry)
There is no max work cap.

If PROMPTING: If FILLING: If FILLING as a TEAM GRANDSTAND participant:
PROMPT: TEAM [YOUR SHIP]
  • Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team you belong to, including Grandstand or Sports Teams
  • Place the prompt's relationship in the first bolded line of the comment. Including the canon isn't required, but it's nice.
  • Link to the original post and cite the original prompter and their team.
  • Visual example. For your copy-and-pasting convenience:
FILL: TEAM [YOUR SHIP], [RATING]
  • Replace [YOUR SHIP] with the name of the team you belong to
  • Replace RATING with the rating of your fill (G - E)
  • Place applicable major content tags and word count before your fill (when applicable)
  • NSFW FILLS: Post written/text fills directly to the round with clear tags. Please link to art/visual fills. You can include a small safe-for-work preview if you'd like.

Posts not using this format will be understood to be unofficial discussion posts, regardless of what they contain. They, like all comments in this community, are subject to the code of conduct.

SCORING
These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many prompts/fills as you want!

For prompts: 5 points each (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

For fills:

First 3 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 4-10: 10 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each
Fills 21+: 2 points each

All scored content must be created new for this round.

Etc.
If you're hunting through the prompts looking for what to fill, a good trick is to view top-level comments only.

Have a question? Check The FAQ first. If you still need help, feel free to contact the mods. Happy fanworking!

No warnings apply.

2 minutes, 28 seconds of audio, to the tune of "Butter-Fly" by Kouji Wada.

Everybody said that you weren't my type
You're too talkitive, a little too hyped
But you know, I'm glad that you're different from me
The flowers next door are in bloom
Every day, I can smell the sweet perfume
But you know, they've really got nothing on you

They say it's oh so sort of weird that we can get along the way that we do
But I don't think it's that queer; after all, you and I seem like we have met before

Each flower I put into my sketchbook, ends up reminding me of you
No matter the color or breed; I wonder if they, maybe, remind you of me too
When spring comes again, I know that we will, grow together and watch the world bloom
No matter what anyone says -- you're my love

i. spring, the season of white roses

he comes into the store to buy a small handful of hibiscus flowers. he’s a quiet boy, never says much, just dips his head in thanks and pays for them in exact change.

“hibiscus flowers are for gentle people,” junta says as he rings up the boy with a smile. he doesn’t reply, just nods his head in thanks when junta bundles up his purchases in paper and ribbon. “flowers have a language, you know? it’s kind of old-fashioned, but,” he laughs, “it’s kind of nice.”

the boy takes the flowers from him with both hands, studying the blooms one last time. he bows a little, junta’s fingertips brushing his palm when he takes his receipt, and leaves the store.

alone, the doorbell ringing a sweet chime as it closes, the scent of gardenias rises in junta’s nose.

ii. summer, the season of red roses

his name is aoyagi. he’s an art student taking a still life class, and needs the flowers as subjects. junta gleans these little tidbits and saves them up, like a kid with a coin bank, keeps them secretly to polish the thoughts in his spare time.

aoyagi hajime: a name composed of tulips (“for one-sided love,” junta says aloud with a frown), tulips in junta’s hands and magnolias in his eyes.

and once, during a sudden shower, junta can see someone standing under the awning of the store. “you can come in--” he starts to say, pushing open the door, and the chime fills in the silence when he stares at aoyagi, drenched and clutching a sodden sketchbook. rain speaks for them both, aoyagi’s footsteps heavy with water as junta rifles in the overstock closet for spare clothes.

there’s a lavender-scented sweatshirt and a loose pair of pants that aoyagi looks so small wearing--but he’s dry, at least he’s dry--so junta puts up his hair, rearranges the tulips. the rain beats against the store’s windows and aoyagi looks forlornly at the sketchpad he’d brought in.

his silence is depressing, with such weight that junta can’t help but want to relieve. “sorry about your sketchbook.” junta offers him a red carnation, and aoyagi takes it with both hands and wide eyes. “it’s on me. it’s okay.”

when the rain stops, aoyagi takes his ruined book and the carnation with him.

iii. autumn, the season of yellow roses

when the fall semester begins, junta doesn’t see aoyagi much at all. he probably, junta reflects, has better things to draw than still life portraits of flowers.

his own classes build up the work, and junta’s often stuck at the register doing his homework with his laptop on the counter. it’s not a perfect system, and he keeps putting pens and pencils in the front pocket of his florist’s apron, but it works.

every once in a while, junta will wonder if aoyagi kept the flower, if he’d known it meant something: distinction, fascination. in the fall, aoyagi’s name is a bundle of yellow camellias. he’d like to see him again.

iv. winter, the season of pink roses

the holiday rush is tough. between finals, christmas sales, and keeping plants alive in the dead of winter, junta is bone-tired and probably looking worse for the wear.

he still thinks about aoyagi hajime, fingertip tracing up the long, graceful lines of iris leaves. there’s a blessed pause between sales on a thursday, and junta should wipe down the counter and see what needs to be watered--in a bit, he decides, just a little later.

the chime rings. “hello,” junta starts, and aoyagi hajime blinks back at him.

he marches straight up to the counter, junta’s hands stilling over the sprig of jasmine in his hands as he meets his eyes. “hi.” and the smile is the most natural thing in the world to him, when junta really sees aoyagi’s face. “merry christmas,” he adds out of habit.

wordlessly, aoyagi passes him a piece of paper, a broad sheet of white that junta flips over with curious eyes. there’s an explosion of color there, shades from flowers aoyagi’s purchased over the year: the gentle pink of magnolias and the primary red of carnations, washes of pastel violets. “it’s really--” and junta’s voice is a muted quiet as he lifts his gaze from the sheet.

“i kept the flower.” aoyagi takes a step forward, the counter a narrow divider between them. “i kept all your flowers.” junta’s grip on the paper tightens. he might, he thinks, understand a little. aoyagi had never spoken the language of flowers at all.

he’d still treated them as gifts, and that’s enough. “have dinner with me,” junta blurts out. “i mean,” he amends, “if you don’t have plans already. it’s christmas eve tomorrow.” he looks over the paper again, how aoyagi had blended the colors together like a bouquet. “please, aoyagi.”

aoyagi’s smile is brilliant. he leans over the counter, palms pressed against the surface as he leans in close to junta’s face, presses a dry, brief kiss to his cheek. “okay,” he agrees, and it feels like summer in the store all over again. “okay, junta.”
