Why is this work awesome?: So I've only been wanting a "someone clicker trains Honoka like a dog" fill for the last hundred years, and when Kii said they'd do it for me I absolutely died of happiness. Mostly, I love how Kii writes Eli-- cheeky but poised, ready to train her girlfriend like a puppy. Honoka is ready and willing, with no qualms about doing this, and I just. Clenches fist. This is so good and Kii is so good.

Why is this work awesome?: Kii's great with character work but they're also good at romantic, poetic fills-- the way this flows is so sweet and tender, and absolutely beautiful. I love the way Umi pines, the way she's rational about this yet afraid. Umi is one of the hardest characters for me to write in LL, but Kii does it so well. I'd like to share one of my favorite paragraphs:

"The problem is that just as darkness learns how to find its way into every crevice unclaimed by the light, the princess of the night sky has learned to fold herself neatly and perfectly into any shape that is required or expected of her. She is origami made from moonbeams, each fold sharp, each corner perfectly pointed. This is who she is, meeting the expectations made of her, by others and by herself, and she isn't going to change, no matter which way she folds. "

It's such a good metaphor. This is such a good metaphor in itself. The world needs more Kii.

Why is this work awesome?: I hate this fill. I hate that it's so cute. I hate how Kenma just understands Kuroo and how he cares about him, even if he doesn't expressly show it. I hate that Kenma just knows how to goad Kuroo into talking about his feelings even when Kuroo doesn't know how to express it himself. I hate how Kii captures all of this perfectly, and how they write Kenma-- Kenma's used to waiting and knows to pace himself. Most of all, I hate KuroKen and I hate that this is true to life.

I hate Kii.

Why is this work awesome?: What’s better than some fun wholesome sweetheart murder time between boyfriends?? The really sweet and lovely relationship between Daichi, Suga, and Asahi, how much they care for each other, the little affectionate gestures (.... murder gifts!!) and consideration they show, is contrasted so engagingly against the almost clinical killings of their rivals. I was basically screaming into my hands the entire time, I love these Karasuno boyfriends so much, and I think I screamed the most at what they did to Seijou. Everything is so horrible and terrible and in that mess it makes, an utter delight.

(The bonus Kiyoko is also the most perfect way to finish it off. See you never, Terushima.)

My favourite kind of happily ever after.

Why is this work awesome?: kuramiyu inception au is like… a dream come true (pun intended)! Serena did such an amazing job with this too. I loved the buildup of everything and their relationship from the beginning to the end. My favorite bit is definitely when Kuramochi goes into Miyuki’s dream. The incorporation of the moment from canon that was the prompt “well, I’ll take him now” (see: me still Yelling about this) was so well done and fit so perfectly. All of the bits about Miyuki’s mom were really great too. And the ending of the fic had such a nice wrap up—good banter, you’re able to feel how they’ve grown closer as time as passed, krmy setting off to get into more trouble together. But I really loved that while it had a concrete and satisfying ending, it left room for more and imagining what could happen next. What are they going to do? Where will they go from here? Really just. In general this was such an amazing fill and krmy and inception au are two very great things, so thank you Serena for gifting the world with this!!

Why is this work awesome?: The atmosphere of this was So Much. The entire thing hurts but it hurts so good. The tone and pacing really contributed to the atmosphere too. As I was reading I just really wanted to know what would happen next and what had happened in the past between them that led to this. Everything came off as so bittersweet and my heart hurt.

"It’s too bad we have to pop this bubble so soon, he muses, just the slightest bit bittersweet, when I’ve finally managed to dream of you." This line completely and entirely ruined me. When I got to this point I could feel the bittersweetness of it, and the way Kuramochi approached the entire thing was so well done. In general, I think Kuramochi’s voice here was so good and well-written.

And then, “I probably miss you too” and everything leading up to the end. (“Only in your dreams, Kura.”) made my heart ache so much gosh. I love dying. This killed me. It captured everything I was looking for with the prompt and more because I will always, always be here for kuramiyu inception aus!

Why is this work awesome?: The imagery in this is so lovely. It’s so achingly beautiful and I love that it kind of builds with each stanza i.e. struggling to come to accept this between them in the first, then in the second falling into it and accepting it. There were so many lines in this that I really loved and really got me, but I especially loved the entire first half of the second stanza. I could feel the emotion behind it. I could imagine it. I think the quiet resignation/acceptance was laced in there so well. Kind of like, I like you so this is how we’ll be. I like you, so let’s keep up what we usually do. I just. Really, really enjoyed this poem and loved the way it was written!

Why is this work awesome?: When you ask for “teshima losing the captaincy to koga” you basically have to steel yourself for what you might get, and I did, I got the thing, and it was as beautiful and heartache as I could ever want. The writing is lovely and expressive, and chess’ grasp of each character is so good, you feel like you leave with a deeper understanding of each of them. This could have been a total misery heartbreak, but instead it’s filled with so much gentleness and hope.

Why is this work awesome?: This has such a fantastic modern fairy tale feeling to it -- the underlining creep of horror that is inherently in every fairy tale is there, and then it’s just there, dumped into your lap, and everything is so wonderfully visceral and engaging in its terribleness. But there’s a certain kind of light, beautiful hand to the writing, that only lends it an even more surreal tone, and this fill works that really well.

I love Iwaizumi’s gentleness that comes through, and I love how easy and natural they both feel. IWAOI WHEN IT’S GOOD IS JUST SO GOOD.

Why is this work awesome?: There’s a very particular heartbreak about iwaoi when they’re cast in a desperate situation -- maybe because in canon they are always struggling to break free of the place they find themselves in over and over again. But here in this setting, it’s so much more poignant, and written with such emotional depth: you can feel every moment how fierce they are in their fight, and just how precarious everything is. MIYU MAPPED THEIR HAIKYUUxFE:F AU SO PERFECT AND GOOD I CAN’T STOP SCREAMING ABOUT IT, and I love how iwaoi have each other, I love how Iwaizumi will, as the saying goes, follow Oikawa into the dark. I love that Iwaizumi is His Dragon. I love this fill so much, and I don't even have words for how beautiful and good it is, because it just is.

Why is this work awesome?: This fill is really adorable, and I’m sure you’re all going to side eye at me for describing a fic tagged for “decapitation” as adorable, but listen. It’s very domestic decapitation. This is clearly a mystical pre-existing condition that Makishima has had for a while, making it only a minor annoyance. I love the peaceful sleeping expressions on both Kinjou and Makishima have, and the way Makishima’s hair falls across the pillow. Surely, soon they will wake up and notice the predicament. Maybe Kinjou will help out and sew Makishima’s head back on for him. owo

Why is this work awesome?: I love the feel of this one. In this fill, Makishima’s head is held on by a ribbon, and Kinjou in his curiousity has removed it. Taking place from Makishima’s POV, this fill walks through Makishima working through what just happened. I love the little character details, like the fact that Makishima can tell that Kinjou kept a clear head in spite of the confusing circumstances, just from looking around the room. Also, Makishima chewing on how this isn’t how he wanted Kinjou to learn this fact about him, yet he’s not entirely sure how he wanted to break it to him anyway. All in all, it has this very subdued tone as Makishima tries to figure out his next steps. A great read.

Why is this work awesome?: This is a remix of the same fill that the one above is, so it has the same theme. First of all, I just want to say what a cute Makishima Lucky is! Next, I love the lighting in the fill; it really makes it feel like that soft, morning lighting. Also, something about the way the light falls on the ribbon gives it this weird, ethereal quality, almost like it doesn’t really fit with the rest of the image, that fits perfectly for the supernatural quality of the fill and the folklore that it’s based on.

Why is this work awesome?: In this fill, Makishima is an evil mountain spirit, whom apparently Kinjou still trusts with decision making. The whole fill is fabulous. Monster!Maki looks amazing, with glowing eyes and sharp teeth, and green curling smoke surrounding him, all coming together to make the ominous whole. I also love how darkly lit it all is, with the close-up on Kinjou, who also seems menacing despite, presumably, being human. Overall, perfect and chilling.

Why is this work awesome?: This fill is a remix of the one above, and honestly they go together perfectly. I absolutely love the feel of this fill. It’s creepy with hints of body horror as Makishima takes on his “true form”, but there’s a sense of familiarity and trust between him and Kinjou that makes the whole thing weirdly sweet, even as the body horror ramps up a bit for both of them. A very good read!

Why is this work awesome?: So, I love sports anime scifi AUs, so of course I fell in love with this art. Alien Makishima looks so good, with the glowing spots and stripes all over. I also love his smug smirk; so very Makishima despite the alien features. Kinjou’s face is also wonderful, squinting, almost disbelieving. I love the whole thing, it’s beautiful.

Why is this work awesome?: This fill is super cute. A hair washing fic where both Kinjou and Makishima get a turn helping each other out. I love that Kinjou seems to be specifically on the lookout to pay Makishima back, since Makishima helped him wash his hair when he was injured. It’s cute as he slowly nudges things in the direction he wants them to go, in order to wash Makishima’s hair and help him de-stress. It really shows off the caring and reciprocal nature of this ship, and it’s very cute.

Why is this work awesome?: This fill is so creepy. Right from the beginning, it sets out with the premise of something just being slightly off: Kinjou can’t ever remember seeing Makishima eating, or with his hair down. True to form, we see Kinjou’s inquisitive nature needling at that, but the more he pokes, the creepier things get. The ending is the best part though, and I don’t want to spoil it, but it lives up perfectly to the building tension of the rest of the fic. Highly recommended, creepy, fill.

Why is this work awesome?: Umm, okay so. I have so many gross sobbing feelings about this and I’m MAD how dare! How dare Samy make me feel feelings? This is such a sweet fic about the Golden Pair going their separate ways after middle school before finding their way back together again, and as such it’s sweet and poignant and heart wrenching. I think the thing I love the most about this is how it forces Eiji to grow up, and become the kind of supporting person that Oishi was for him. And I’m all about that. This fic makes you so sad for all the time Golden Pair spends apart, but at the end it really feels like they’re both better off for it, and that just makes the ending all the more satisfying.

The heartbreaking thing is that it feels really true to life, the easy way in which people who don’t see each other daily can just drift apart, change emails, assume that the other one doesn't want to talk to them. Which makes it even better when eventually they find their way back to each other. It’s sweet and cute and makes you have warm fuzzies at the end.

No really though, I’m gonna talk about Inui now, because you see that eye horror tag? It’s only there because of my terrible tennis son, and also for me, because even if Sarah hadn’t told me it was there for me, I would have known. Because it’s Inui. Because if you put Inui in a fic I’ll scream about it. Because I’m a joke.
And wow, Eiji. WOW. Way to just assume Fuji knows more than Inui, rude. (Of course he does.)
Anyway, so about the actual ship I guess… I love the premise here, that Oishi has the midas touch, but only in Eiji’s eyes. It’s a cute metaphor for the Golden Pair, but then again, maybe isn’t all metaphor, as the fic plays out. In summation, it’s everything Golden Pair should be: Cute, wonderful, also Inui is there.

Why is this work awesome?: This fill is adorable. I’m pretty sure it’s a canon fact that Golden Pair can read each other’s minds, and this fic gives us a scenario for how they first discovered this talent. It’s a really cute fill, with Eiji just naturally responding to Oishi’s thoughts as if he’d spoken, not realizing what’s going wrong. Also, once again, this fic exploits the Inui hack of “if you put Inui in it, Mels will scream.” (I love Inui taking notes in the background, more fascinated clearly in the science of the mind reading, I’m sure. But I also love how he just casually steps in to help while Oishi is voiceless. Inui is a good. Listen...) Anyway, this fill is an adorable read.

Why is this work awesome?: Okay, I can’t lie, I came for the “distant lingering of Oishi/Tezuka” and stayed for the super adorable Golden Pair. The idea of Eiji having a magic tattoo shop is just super cute, and I love the fact that Oishi is not only skeptical of magic, but very miffed at the implication he might have it.
Tezuka is also amazing in this fic, just casually dropping the bomb that he has magic too and apparently never told his doubles partner about it. (And Tezuka and Oishi are a doubles pair in this?? Hhhhhhh)
But the Golden Pair is just so cute in this and… Okay, I held out for as long as I possibly could, Inui wrote a whole book about magic in this fic! I mean, if we assume that he’s the same age as the others, and they’re college age, and Tezuka read that book a while ago, that’s pretty young for Inui to be writing helpful reference books on magical abilities, I’m so proud of him!! owo
… Anyway, you should read this for the cute Golden Pair, like a normal person.

I love this image. Laura's art is nice, you can tell she's making an effort to keep the character art colored neatly and proportioned realistically and that's an effort even I do not make most days! But more than that, Sarah's art is incredibly cute and always has a lot of personality; Kana's marvel over Kataoka's back tattoo is really precious, and all the details are great. The tattoo evokes the hundred poems from Chihayafuru, and have I mentioned Kataoka's glasses? Kataoka with glasses is important to me.

But no, seriously, this was everything I wanted out of "Kataoka is a young yakuza enforcer going to tattoo artist Oe (who's used to his kind coming through) for his first ink" and more. Their clever little conversation through poetry is full of so much warmth and intelligence and understanding, and the singular best part is Kataoka's insistence that the love poems Oe is choosing aren't for him, and her return of, "If you know both of them are love poems, maybe they are for you." It says so much about both characters in so little space and actually breaks my heart (with happiness) please, please read it, I beg of you.

Why is this work awesome?: I love the clever way this fic is constructed, between its use of poetry, time, and the back-and-forth telling of both Oe's current trouble and her relationship with Kataoka as it begins and leads to that current point. The build of their relationship is conveyed slowly, gradually, through tiny little moments that are themselves like the cards Kataoka leaves for Oe: snapshots to be consumed in single bites. I love the way it uses the poem that includes Oe's namesake, and I love that even though it's very much a story about a relationship coming apart as much as it's one about a relationship coming together, it ends on what is arguably a hopeful note.

Why is this work awesome?: The loveliest thing about Aozo's art is always the colors. Aozo has a gorgeous, painterly style, which in this piece trends toward incredibly vibrant blues and purples and reds. Aozo's art is also great at evoking mood; Kinjou's face is incredibly serene, juxtaposed against the quiet menace of the sword in Umi's hand. It's really nice stuff.

I love the framing of it, with the cuts of Honoka and Kiyoko's faces in the first two panels, then the dialogue, then the image of them on their date at the bottom. Their conversation is really cute, and the framing specifically on their blushing faces, on their mouths, rather than their eyes really conveys the mood of Honoka's confession.

The art is set up to look like a product ad, with the off-center framing and the focus balanced between the models and the awful slogan of, Are you thirsty? And Furuya and Imaizumi's posing is delightful, very incidental "oh, did you have a camera there?" like they'd been caught in the middle of something, which is exactly how I'd want to see them as models.

Why is this work awesome?: I love everything about this piece, from the concept down to every bit of its execution. I love the contrast between Kuramochi's thicker frame and Arakita's stick-thinness, not to mention their faces! Juju does really dynamic, wonderful expressions, and Arakita's irritation comes through incredibly well with how Juju has drawn him. Plus the Anti-Hero shirt is just a nice extra touch.

Why is this work awesome?: The most delightful thing about this piece is the body language. Miyuki is spread-legged and smiling, everything about his posture telegraphing comfort. On the other hand, Oikawa sits far more primly, one leg crossed over the other, like he's choosing to remain alert, not quite at ease. I love it because their body language tells the story of what's happening: this is a first meeting, a little bit bumpy, but still a good time.
