This popular round is back once again! To begin this year's SASO, we encourage you to let your mind run wild with alternate ideas and settings.


Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible. (There are changes from last year!)

RULES

• Submit prompts by commenting to this post with an alternate universe idea, along with a ship from one of our nominated fandoms. There's a comment template below for your convenience.
  • Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. (This is not the sports anime gen olympics.) Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Izumi & Sakaeguchi). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Izumi/Sakaeguchi). Please don't say "Any pairing," either!
• An AU can be a canon divergence, e.g. "what if [character] was the Team Captain instead of the canon captain character?", or a completely different setting altogether, e.g., pop idol AU, coffee shop AU, superheroes AU, etc.

SCORING

These numbers apply to your team as a whole, not each individual teammate. Make as many prompts/fills as you want!

For prompts: 5 points each (maximum of 50 prompt points per team per round)

For fills:
First 4 fills by any member of your team: 20 points each
Fills 5-10: 15 points each
Fills 11-20: 5 points each
Fills 21-50: 2 points each
Fills 51+: 1 point each

All scored content must be created new for this round.

The worst part of being a demon living on Earth, sharing a teenage boy’s body, was not the unexpected erections.

No, it was the yearly check-ins with Hell’s auditors.

He stared now at the masked demon in front of him had eschewed the standard Venetian masks in favor of wrapping bandages around his head. Fucking bandages. Was Hell going through some budget cuts? Did he think it made him look badass to have apparently lost all the skin off his face?

Moonlight glinted off the auditor’s glasses as he clicked his pen, surveying Kirihara’s records critically.

“Who are you again?” Kirihara asked. If he got a bad review, he wanted to know whom to blame.

“I’m just an observer from hell; a nameless, faceless, mysterious data soldier,” the auditor replied without looking up. “And that’s all that concerns you.”

He slashed through something on his pad, making Kirihara crane his head to try to see what it was. For his efforts, he received a tsk and what he was sure was a disapproving look from behind those glasses.

“I estimate that you spend 40% more time than necessary playing this ‘tennis’,” the auditor said as he flipped through Kirihara’s logs. “Explain.”

“It allows me an excuse to manifest myself. Seeing what I can do, other humans are tempted to emulate my host. During one match, my host’s opponent grew so envious that Balthazar briefly succeeded in possessing him—“

“Briefly. A possession of less than a minute does not count.” The auditor’s tone shifted, growing more thoughtful, “However, initial possession does indicate a 78% percent chance of a successful bond later on.”

“Yeah, exactly,” Kirihara said eagerly, “I open up other humans to the potential power they could have.”

“…You do not have enough viewers yet,” the auditor said, turning his attention back to the papers. “Improve your host’s standing. An increase of 92% in your audience is required for your tactic to pay sufficient dividends.”

“…Yes.” Kirihara resisted the urge to argue his host body wasn’t strong enough yet or that fucking human, Ryoma Echizen, was the one stealing the spotlight.

“Before I leave, drink this,” the auditor ordered, producing a frothing, steaming red drink from nowhere.

“What is it?” KIrihara asked, playing for time as he took a wary step backwards.

“A strengthening drink to ensure the human world does not taint you.”

As vile as the drink looked, Kirihara knew he would have to obey. Every demon knew better than to argue with mysterious data soldiers from Hell - especially the ones arms with red pens and clipboards.

Yeah. Auditors were the worst.

Manami’s illness is a strange thing. It starts with fatigue so sapping that he can’t get out of bed, or so everyone thinks. The real first symptom is the few specks of glitter on his back that nobody knows the origin of but everyone assumes is just the result of a child’s crafts.

When the wings begin to grow, nobody has any assumptions to make about them. The wings are delicate little juts of glass, looking easy to break, but all attempts to shatter them are put off for fear that it might make Manami sicker or perhaps even die. X-rays are needed to show that somehow, the glass is fused to Manami’s bones and his fatigue was the result of his body needed all its energy to grow his wings.

Photos are taken and published. The world decries his wings as a hoax. Scientists pour into his house to study him and encourage his parents to send him to a lab.

They refuse and Manami’s wings grow larger still until they are crystal instead of glass, glimmering and sparkling.

One morning, the scientists come and the wings are gone as if they were never there. Manami tells them that he knows how to pull them in now. He tells them to go away, he’s tired of their tests.

And when they try to keep arguing, he mounts his bike and tiredly, slowly, pedals away. They keep up with him easily at first but then he pushes himself harder, pours more energy into the pedaling motion and increases his cadence. Gradually, he strips away from them and they are left huffing in their lab coats, running after him with their measuring instruments held high in the air like flags of peace.

He laughs and leaves them all behind.

The wings only ever come out when he’s biking, after that. They should present more wind resistance, they should weigh him down, but they burst out of his back like a laugh, like something irrepressible born of joy. He beats them as he flies and sends a thousand rainbows over the watching crowd. Faster, higher, to the mountain’s peak he goes and curses the fact that he has to stop. Why is there no road that leads straight to the sky?

(For context, this is an extremely old meme from like...2003?? One Point English Lesson is a skit from a late night Japanese comedy show, which parodied videos that taught English through rote stock phrases. The joke is that it only taught terrible sexy phrases like "I give good head." Also, the fake geisha character who teaches the lesson actually spends 90% of the time trying and failing to seduce a man named Toshi.

Unfortunately, fanwork has a tendency to call Ushijima "Toshi" and I can't unsee sulky geisha Oikawa yelling at Ushijima and I just really need to not be alone in this hell, okay, please save me.)
