Profess your love for your favorite ships with the power of song! In this round, we ask you to create fan soundtracks and use them as inspiration for new fanwork.

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible.

RULES

• Submit prompts in the form of a short playlist (1-6 songs) and a ship from any of our nominated fandoms. Submit only the track listing and a link to where they can be listened to; the idea is for others to interpret what you present. You may also link to lyrics if you would like.
• Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Lilia & Sara). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Lilia/Sara). Please don't say "Any pairing," either.
• Create content based on the playlists of others! Fill prompts by leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work.
• Fills may be in any form you choose (except for another FST of course) as long as they are inspired by/fit the mood of the soundtrack they are filling for.
• Remember to follow the general bonus round rules, outlined here.

"Hey," Jin said, catching up to Tsukushi easily, "You know that practice was cancelled for today, right?"

"I know," Tsukushi said, smiling happily at Jin. His wet hair was plastered against his scalp and drops of water shone in his eyelashes. The soccer kit stuck to his body, showing the new growth of muscle that had started to replace his baby fat, and the trickling water down his legs highlighted trim calves that were starting to look quite decent. "But we have to play in bad weather sometimes so I thought I should practice running on the field in bad weather too."

"Be careful," Jin cautioned, keeping pace with Tsukushi despite his words. "If you take a bad fall, you could slip and twist your ankle. Or sprain it. Then you'll be out of the games until you heal."

"I've got my cleats on!" Tsukushi showed Jin the underside of the shoes, slowing a little so that Jin could see how they were cluttered with mud and grass. "I stop and clean them out whenever it feels like I'm starting to slip."

Jin was starting to feel too hot in his rainjacket so after a brief second of hesitation, he stripped it off and tossed it over the railway of the stands. The thin t-shirt he was wearing under it got pulled off, folded and tucked under the jacket.

"Jin!" Tsukushi said, half in shock, half in amusement. "You can't run around half-naked!"

"This isn't a match," Jin pointed out with a grin. "Nobody's going to give me a yellow card for it. And besides, this way I'll still have something dry to wear when we're done."

"You should have changed into your kit first and then come out to run with me," Tsukushi said virtuously, his feet kicking up splashes of mud as he ran. "Now your trousers will get all wet."

"So I'll wear my shorts to go home," Jin said casually with a shrug. He knew he'd get some odd looks for being a half-soaked boy with soccer shorts and long, wet blond hair, but it didn't matter.

He'd never cared much what anyone thought about him, barring his mother and Tsukushi. Why wouldn't he accept the disapproval of strangers as a fair trade for getting to spend a few more precious minutes laughing and running with Tsukushi?

Games were fun but then Jin had to share Tsukushi with the team and the audience. Like this, under the grey skies, it was just the two of them running around the field.

Tsukushi's hand brushed his accidentally as they jogged and warmth lanced through Jin.

His crush might be hopeless but it had never brought him pain.

Why does Kinjou call Inui "dad" and Kaidou "father"?

It wasn't a storybook beginning, Kaidou thought, but he wouldn't have taken anything else. Even if the situation had been more fear and grief and loss than there should have been at what should have been a happy time, none of it mattered compared to where they were now. Maybe they still had a long way to go, but when he looked at Inui sleeping on the opposite side of the bed, and Kinjou tucked into the space between them, and them in a real apartment of their own, not some abandoned warehouse or cabin in the middle of the woods hiding, he thought that it was close enough to a storybook moment for them.

But of course, storybook moments never seemed to last in his life. They had been living there for barely a month, slowly picking up the pieces of their life and slotting them back together into something new and relatively whole, when Inui had left for what should have been a simple mission.

They needed the money, having been forced to leave much behind when Inui had fled, and it should have been a simple job. Kaidou usually went along to form the other half of Inui's team, but they both decided that Kinjou needed him more. Kaidou had seen Inui off that morning with a kiss on his less scarred cheek and a promise to have dinner waiting that night. Kinjou had burbled something that they took to be his version of a goodbye as well.

In retrospect, Kaidou wished he had never let Inui go off on a mission with an untried, unvetted partner. Sure, they had both done their background checks and not found anything worrying, other than a slightly slimmer resume than they would have liked, but that wouldn't have been enough to pass muster for them even a month earlier. They had thought they were safe, and they paid the price.

The call came in late that night from Tezuka. The details were still fuzzy, but all signs were pointing to treachery. It had taken Tezuka, Atobe, and Yukimura pooling their forces to rescue Inui, and even with their best medical teams working on him, there was no promise that he would survive.

One frantic phone call later, Kaidou was leaving Kinjou with Oishi and Eiji and rushing to the hospital. There was nothing new to report when he arrived, but by the next morning, the news was better; Inui would most likely recover. Days passed though, and Inui didn't regain consciousness. After much consultation, the leading theory was that something, perhaps so much trauma so soon after the last incident, had caused him to retreat deep into his own mind. There was no telling if, or when, he would wake up.

Kaidou split his time between the hospital with Inui and the apartment with Kinjou, trying to spare their son from the worst of the situation, but eventually the day came when he couldn't bear to leave Kinjou, and he brought him to the hospital too.

He wasn't sure how to explain the situation to a child too young even to talk; "your father's sick," didn't seem to be enough, but it was all he could think of. He hoped that all of the tubes and wires wouldn't frighten Kinjou too badly; he didn't know what he would do if they did.

As it turned out, he needn't have worried. Kinjou didn't seem at all bothered by the situation, babbling and tugging on the sheets until Kaidou finally gave in and moved wires and tubes to set him down on the bed next to Inui. Kinjou crawled into his favorite spot by Inui's side, stuck his thumb in his mouth, and fell asleep.

An hour later, Inui stirred.

Kaidou scrubbed a hand over his eyes, not certain anymore it wasn't fatigue making him see things, but there was no mistaking Inui's eyes looking back in his direction.

He took Inui's glasses from the bedside and slipped them onto his face. "Welcome back," he whispered. "We thought we'd lost you."

Between them, Kinjou woke up, blinking as he looked back and forth. "Da?" he asked.

Kaidou's laugh came out closer to a sob. "That's right," he said. "Your Dad's here."

"Da!" Kinjou buried his face in Inui's shoulder.

Inui caught Kaidou's eye. Kaidou read the question there and nodded. Yes, they both had been there for Kinjou's first word.

Furuya slides out from underneath the dashboard and nods. "All set," he says.

It's hard to tell, most days, how he's doing, given little has changed in his demeanor.

At least, it is for most people—Miyuki knows better, knows the way Furuya sees Sawamura everywhere, whether in the engine room or in the mess, the way he woke up this morning reaching for him only to find the space next to him empty.

His heart aches, for Furuya and for himself; the ship feels too quiet, without Sawamura's shouting, the constant banging around, the near-endless store of energy...

Just as the ship seems emptier, so too does Miyuki's headspace, and he finds himself mourning the loss of Sawamura's presence in his mind.

Still, Miyuki reads something in Furuya's eyes and realizes that there's a sense, a feeling, that he'll never be able to know, something that exists not in the mind but in the heart. There are some things even he can't comprehend.

It's nice, though—to know he has a limit.

"Thank you, Furuya," he answers, smiling and sliding into the rarely-used co-pilot's chair.

Furuya nods and retreats, heading back to the engine room. Inevitably, with his mind no longer occupied by an engineering task, his thoughts drift back to Sawamura—to Eijun.

Distantly, he's aware of Haruichi's presence growing stronger, until it drifts alongside Furuya as Haruichi joins him. He's been doing that a lot lately—as both a comfort to Furuya and to himself.

Kuramochi is whittling at a piece of wood in his hands, sitting at the helm.

"You know Captain is going to tell you to move," Miyuki says, half-smiling on the side of his face that Kuramochi can't see from his position.

Kuramochi shrugs. "Then let him, once he gets here."

Miyuki has grown familiar with Kuramochi's tendency to occupy his hands while he's with Miyuki; it keeps his thoughts focused on something else, so that Miyuki can't read him like an open book.

Miyuki likes it; the thoughts are simple and steadying, giving him an anchor to turn to should the minds of the Serenity become too overwheming, though that's become less of a problem as of late, no longer haunted by Miranda, a weight gone that helped him to see clearer.

Serenity's occupants grow more familiar to him by the day, becoming less a distraction and more of a comforting white noise; a low buzz or chatter instead of caterwauling, some becoming more or less prominent depending on the distance or the intensity of their thoughts.

Like Jun, for instance, focusing long and hard on Tetsu's pectoral muscles as he spots him at the bench press. Miyuki smiles to himself and nudges it aside—something else he's learning to do.

He turns back to Kuramochi's thoughts, which have drifted, his hands having stilled, his eyes on Miyuki while he thinks back on what Miyuki used to be, images of Miyuki before the Academy and at the Academy and just after escaping the Academy—

"I feel new," Miyuki says. "Not like what I used to be, before, but... not broken anymore, either."

He turns to meet Kuramochi's eyes, and he doesn't know how to read Kuramochi's eyes.

Feelings were always so much harder if there weren't any words or images to go with them.

Miyuki feels the landscape of Serenity shift, one mindscape shifting into the foreground, into sharper focus. He turns back to the dashboard in front of him and hums. "Furuya has the engine running at 82% now," he says. "He'll need another part before we're back to 100%."

"Did you ask him that," the captain's voice makes Kuramochi jump, having not heard him approach, "or did you go digging, albatross?"

Miyuki spins the chair to face Kataoka, smiling. "Wasn't hard; I think he likes to tell me things that way."

The ghost of a smile flickers across Kataoka's lips. "Wouldn't surprise me," he says. He turns his eyes to Kuramochi, and Miyuki reads each word just before he says it. "You think you might want to be elsewhere, Kuramochi?"

Kuramochi jumps from the seat, clearing his throat. "I was just—keeping Miyuki company while he waited for you, sir."

Kataoka eyes him for a moment, then: "Go find Chris in the mess; he could use your eye trying to figure out our next job."

Kuramochi blinks, then nods.

Miyuki smiles after him as he descends to the bridge, disappearing as he walks further down the catwalk.

"He likes that you trust him," Miyuki murmurs.

"Who said I did?" Kataoka says as he settles into the pilot's chair.

Miyuki turns to him, brow arched, and Kataoka finally allows himself a small smile.

"Right—I ought to know better, doing that around you."

"You'll get better at it," Miyuki responds, watching his hands adjust the knobs and switches to prepare them for takeoff.

Kataoka hums. "I suppose I'll have time to practice, if you're to be here learning this."

Miyuki brings his legs up so his chin rests on his knees. "Think the storm will clear?"

"We'll pass through it soon enough." Kataoka is quiet a moment. "I suppose you know what I'm to tell you—about the first rule of flying."

Miyuki smiles. "I like to hear you say it, though."

It's difficult to look away in the university locker rooms sometimes, when Shigeru looks over and finds Kentarou with his practice shirt pulled off, his torso on full display. It's not a sight that he's unfamiliar with, after their last year and a half at high school, but Shigeru's mouth goes dry all the same, and all he knows is that he wants, even if he isn't quite sure what it is that he wants. To close the distance between their bodies, maybe, the rest of their team be damned as he presses himself right up against Kentarou's body. He could just as easily want to turn and leave so he doesn't have to deal with this any longer. He doesn't even know how he's managed to deal with it so far.

There's a team meeting once they've changed into comfortable clothes, crowded around the table of a nearby café, and all Shigeru can feel is Kentarou sitting next to him. They're pushed up together from the shoulder down, and Kentarou hooks his ankle over Shigeru's, like he's anchoring himself in place. Shigeru doesn't take his eyes off their captain, even as he reaches under the table to dig his fingers into Kentarou's thigh. He can feel Kentarou tense against him, but he doesn't dare look. He just drags his fingers along the material of Kentarou's pants, up his leg, towards his inseam.

Kentarou kicks him hard and the table rattles with the movement. Shigeru looks away from their captain now, taking in Kentarou's red face, his dark eyes. He looks like he wants to bite, and Shigeru is this close to just baring his throat and letting him have at it, when their captain clears his throat.

"Yahaba. Kyoutani. This is the second time this month I've had to talk to you about not fighting. We're only a week in. Stay back after the meeting so we can discuss what we're going to do about it, okay?"

"Yes, Captain. Sorry," Shigeru mutters, looking back at their captain.

Kentarou grunts, and digs his fingers into Yahaba's thigh in retaliation. He doesn't tease because unlike Shigeru, he doesn't like starting things unless he can see them through. He just lets Shigeru feel his hand there, until it's the only thing that Shigeru can focus on at all.

Their conversation with their captain, around the side of the café, is nothing that they haven't heard before. Shigeru nods dutifully through it, apologises, and doesn't promise that it won't happen again. By now, their captain is already beginning to realise that it's not a promise that they're going to keep.

Then they're alone, staring each other down, and Kentarou licks his lips.

"Do you—" Shigeru begins, but Kentarou is already kissing him up against the wall, biting at his lips, and it's a question and an answer all in one.

"My place," Kentarou growls quietly, and Shigeru is more than happy to follow.

“...Your phone has the time for America and here both,” Heath observes as he opens up the note-taking app.

“...Yes.” Kyousuke doesn’t say anything else to justify himself but Heath has to probe, pushing like he would at a half-healed bruise he wants to heal faster.

“Do you talk to him still?” Heath makes his tone as casual as he can but there’s never been any use in lying to Kyousuke. The three of them know each other too well for that.

“Yes,” Kyousuke says after a second’s pause.

Without thinking, Heath rubs the tattoo on his stomach. The triangle formed around his navel should be altered but that would take all meaning from it. Without a third point, a triangle is nothing but a single line. And without a third line, a triangle is an arrow pointing in the wrong direction.

The only option would be to remove it entirely but Kyousuke is still here. He has made the ultimate sacrifice for the sake of the team and unlike Tomoe, he didn’t lace up his sneakers and run away (all the way across the ocean, leaving sea spray in his wake).

Kyousuke does not deserve to be erased the way that Tomoe does, even if he is still conversing with Tomoe.

A thousand questions jumble together behind Heath’s teeth but he holds them all back and chooses the most neutral one. “How’s he doing?”

“Striding, still.” A neutral answer for a neutral question and Heath has been hoist on his own petard.

“Of course he is. If we were in Pompeii, he’d be one Striding away from the lava.” And leaving his brother to burn. Heath doesn’t say that part but he does remember the little kid who’d come cheer at their Stride competitions. He wonders what the boy thinks of his brother’s sudden departure; does he miss Tomoe like Heath does?

No. Surely not. At least, surely not in the same way.

Heath’s cheeks flush guiltily and he realizes he’s missed Kyousuke’s answer. Rather than admit to daydreaming about Tomoe when Kyousuke is right there, he shifts in his chair and leans over to rest his hand over Kyousuke’s.

“Next time you talk to him, tell him I said hi,” he says as lightly as he can manage. It’s not forgiveness but it’s the closest to it that he can come. Tomoe will understand that.

Kyousuke understands it too.

Both Sousuke and Haru had a tendency to be cold and distant, and Rin knew the most surefire way get them fired up was through competition, which was what he could give to both of them.

He'd come back to Iwatobi to prove to himself that Haru no longer meant anything to him and then quickly proved himself wrong. Haru was as beautiful as ever and Rin was helpless against him.

Water was the element of change, and Haru changed him, again and again.

Just when the dust was settling on that, however, here came Sousuke, springing out sun-soaked childhood memories into a new form, broad shouldered, handsome and determined to unsettle the ground under Rin.

“I don't think there's any point in pretending that I didn't come back for you,” he'd said, almost as soon as they were alone, and pushed Rin against the wall and kissed him.

A hundred protests flew to Rin’s mouth and died there.

When they pulled apart, he blinked at Sousuke dumbly and muttered, “Sousuke, more.”

Rin wondered what he should tell Haru, except the next time he saw Haru, there was nothing much to tell. Haru pulled him into the water and thus submerged, he stole a kiss. Then, with a secretive smile, Haru floated away, leaving Rin drowning in lust.

After practice, he followed Haru home. He wasn't stupid, he knew Sousuke noticed. He went anyway. Sousuke had just come back. Did he think Rin would just wait for him?

Haru walked sedately behind him. Makoto had stayed behind to get some groceries for his mother. Rin wondered if he was just a stand-in for Makoto today, walking with Haru so that his finely calibrated routine wouldn't get out of whack.

“Yamazaki’s rooming with you,” Haru said suddenly, startling Rin into almost dropping his phone.

“Huh? Oh, yeah.”

“Wasn't Nitori a better choice?”

“Nh. Well, it's school policy that third years room together. You don't want to get disturbed when you’re studying for your entrance exams, or crying over them, either way. Sousuke’s a pretty good roommate. Quiet.”

He shot a sly glance back at Haru, who looked stubbornly away.

“Are you jealous, Haru?”

“Should I be?”

That was far more direct and to-the-point than Rin expected from Haru.

He shook his head, bewildered.

Later on, after dinner and a bath, Rin rang his tongue down the curve of Haru’s neck and chuckled when he shivered at the touch. Before Rin knew it, he was flipped over on his back, looking up to him. Haru’s eyes, so beautiful and so blue, were blown wide and his mouth was red and debauched from kissing.

“You're mine, Rin,” Haru said with a slight frown. He sounded almost uncertain, but Rin surged up and assured him. Yes, yes, I am yours.

Sousuke clicked his tongue in disapproval at the bruise on Rin’s neck, fingering it for a moment before he said, dismissively, “Nanase’s a pretty careless guy.”

Rin ignored the heat of Sousuke’s gaze and the way his hand still lingered on his neck. “Piss off.”

“Not really into that,” Sousuke said, whirling him around and sending him off with a smack on his ass.

“You bully!” Rin bawled as he made his escape out of the locker room. “I’m going to write you up for this!” Of course, just his luck, he ran into Momo and Nitori just as he got out, and they stared at his red face and heard Sousuke laughing through the half-open door.

“What are you staring at?” he snapped, “ten laps for the two of you.”

They apologized and scrambled away, but Rin had to wait until after dinner to get his revenge on Sousuke. It was easy enough -- Sousuke didn’t linger after his homework was done. As expected, he was already in bed, his music loud enough that Rin could hear it despite his earbuds.

As quietly he could, he snuck up to the top bunk. Sousuke was still, apparently asleep, but of course, Rin didn’t trust it. All he had to do was dump the water on him and get going. He unscrewed the water bottle when Sousuke sat up suddenly.

“Your pranks haven’t changed since you were twelve, huh, Rin?”

“Uh, shut up --” Rin said, as Sousuke tackled him. It was a tight space, and also on top of the bunk bed, but they grappled fiercely, shaking the bed frame dangerously. Rin ended up on top, like he knew he would.

“You gonna apologize?” he said, smirking down at Sousuke. “Or am I going to have make you smell my feet?”

“Ugh,” Sousuke said, which wasn’t an apology, so Rin had to follow through with his threats. And after all that, he didn’t feel like going down to his own bed, so he stayed there, falling asleep half-way on top of Sousuke.

“Rin,” Sousuke muttered in his ear.

“Mmm,” Rin said, burrowing deeper into the nest of blankets. Sousuke was so warm against him, he couldn’t keep his eyes open.

“You’re mine, Rin,” Sousuke said this confidently, as if he had no doubt about it.

“Yeah,” Rin agreed, and fell asleep.

The next time Rin mounted the steps leading to Haru’s house. He wasn’t thinking of anything in particular as he went up. He knocked on the door and Haru opened the door. They smiled at each other -- and then door open further to reveal Sousuke.

Both Haru and Sousuke were looking at him with very similar, very unreadable expressions on their faces.

Oh shit.
