SASO 2017 is over, but this round is perpetually open to new fills (no new prompts).

Profess your love for your favorite ships with the power of song! In this round, we ask you to create fan soundtracks and use them as inspiration for new fanwork.

Please read this whole post before commenting to ensure that your team gets the most points possible.

RULES

• Submit prompts in the form of a short playlist (1-6 songs) and a ship from any of our nominated fandoms. Submit only the track listing and a link to where they can be listened to; the idea is for others to interpret what you present. You may also link to lyrics if you would like.
• Your prompt MUST include some kind of relationship. Platonic relationships are indicated by an "&" between the names (e.g., Lilia & Sara). Non-platonic relationships use "/" (e.g., Lilia/Sara). Please don't say "Any pairing," either.
• Create content based on the playlists of others! Fill prompts by leaving a responding comment to the prompt with your newly-created work.
• Fills may be in any form you choose (except for another FST of course) as long as they are inspired by/fit the mood of the soundtrack they are filling for.

The first thing Alex does when she wakes up is wonder what time it is for Masako. She reaches out to her side, batting at her morning alarm to turn it off and grabbing for her glasses at the same time, putting them on so she can read the red digits of the clock by her bed, telling her that she's woken up to her first alarm for the day, at five thirty. She sometimes hits snooze for another fifteen minutes but she's not feeling it today. Not when her bed feels emptier than she'd like it to be, her apartment too big, too quiet.

It's too early in the morning for mental mathematics, so she picks her phone up instead, checking her world clock. It's half past nine at night for Masako right now. If Alex wants to catch her before bed, she has an hour to make that call.

She drags herself out of bed, still wrapped in her thick blanket, and makes herself some coffee first. At least that way, she'll be less likely to sound like she's dying over the phone. That's always a plus. She's still yawning as she dials Masako's number, but she can deal with that.

"Alex," Masako answers immediately. "It's early for you."

Yawning again at the reminder, Alex wipes the tired tears from her eyes. "Yeah. I missed you."

Masako doesn't reply immediately, but Alex hears her sigh and it's a simple sound, filled with the same kind of longing that she feels. "I miss you."

"I wanted to talk to you," Alex tells her. "I mean, I wanted to talk to you anyway, but I had a reason. I'm sending one of my boys to you."

Masako is silent for a beat, then says, "Himuro Tatsuya."

"You know him," Alex says, surprised.

"You only have two boys," Masako tells her. "Kagami Taiga, who already moved to Tokyo, and Himuro Tatsuya. Unless you've adopted more since we've last talked?"

Alex laughs. "I didn't adopt—"

"Close enough," Masako tells her. "You love them like they were your own."

"And I'm sending one to you," Alex says softly. "Take good care of him, won't you? He isn't like Taiga. Tatsuya needs someone to pull him out of his own head before he gets lost in there."

Masako hums in thought. "You've sent him to the right place, at the right time. I'll have an interesting partner for him. That aside, I'm willing to take your pupil on as my own, but when are you going to come here?"

Alex sighs heavily. "Soon. I promise."

"If these two boys of yours are as good as you say, they'll play against each other eventually," Masako says. "You'll have to come and see them."

"And I have to come and see you," Alex murmurs. "I will. I promise."

"Good," Masako replies, and Alex hears her muffle a yawn.

It's unfair, Alex thinks, that they're both tired, both alone, on opposite ends of the Pacific Ocean like this. "I'll see you soon."

Everything is dark and peaceful, as warm as his mother’s womb must’ve been. The throne becomes a chair becomes a cradle and Akashi is rocking slowly, staring up into a darkness so absolute that it rests his eyes.

It’s calmer here. No Aomine, blazing too brightly, demanding too much. No Kise, trying so hard to be Aomine, artificial light to Aomine’s sunshine. No Murasakibara daring to challenge him and forcing him to realize his own slipping control. No Midorima with his quiet, distinctive disapproval (as if he could do any better!).

There’s someone he’s forgetting, he knows, but it doesn’t matter if he forgets them.

They’re no longer his concern.

Hands crawl up his body, pale spider leg fingers closing around his throat, and he looks into mismatched eyes.

“What do you want?” He asks, dispassionate and deadened. He doesn’t have the body anymore. All those emotions come from hormones; without the body flooding him with chemical controls, he is clear crystal calm.

“Everything,” his other self answers. A fingernail like a scythe slices across his throat and blood tumbles down. Cupped hands, pale and calloused from years of playing instruments, gather the blood. The excess spills over the sides, soaking into a ground that absorbs it soundlessly.

“You already have everything,” Akashi says and his breath whistles through the cut that yawns across his throat when he speaks.

“No,” his other self disagrees with a smile that is so nakedly hungry that Akashi would never let it show. “Not yet.”

The cradle is a throne again and his other self is kneeling at his feet, lapping blood off the throne, licking at clothing that dissolves under his tongue like rice paper. Akashi watches furrows cut in the cloth, watches those red-dyed hands pull the fabric from his skin until he’s naked but still throned.


“The Emperor has no clothes,” his other self says, drawing a scarlet line along the inside of Akashi’s thigh. He follows the line of the femoral artery, working up from the hard curve of Akashi’s knee to the softer join of thigh to hip.

He smiles again, red-lipped and ready to devour, and Akashi shudders at the first wet touch against his stomach.

“I cannot be absolute as long as you exist.”

The logic is too absolute to fight and yet, fight Akashi does.

In the end, that is no blessing.

If there really such a thing as hell, Noya thinks to himself, it exists in the space between him and Tanaka. It's right there in the space between their fingers as they sit on Tanaka's bedroom floor, the distance between Tanaka's head and his shoulder, a gap that he desperately wants to close, even though he knows that he can't. It's not his place to fit into and Tanaka's heart isn't his to mend. It never will be; he's begun to learn that by now. If Tanaka was willing to try things out with Noya, they would have had their chance together by now. Instead, here's there as silent support by his best friend's side, and if this is the place in the world that has been carved out for Noya, he'll take it just because it means that it's still a place beside Tanaka. It's not what he wants, but he's learned by now that what people want is not always the same as what they get.

"Maybe it's me," Tanaka mutters, as another relationship fails, another person failing to realise just how amazing he is. "These things never end up working out, no matter what I do. There must just be something wrong with me, right?"

"No," Noya replies immediately. He nudges Tanaka's foot with his own, and shakes his head just for emphasis. "Shut up with that. It's not you, when you're awesome. These people are just too blind to realise what they're missing out on, or taking for granted. I bet they all realise when it's over and it's too late to fix anything. None of them deserve you, man, and that's a fact. You deserve the world."

Tanaka gives him a sad smile, drawing his knees up to his chest and folding his arms on top of them. "You think so?"

"Hell yeah, I do." Noya needs to pull his own heart out of the equation, before he ends up hurting himself again. He's had enough of this, enough of slowly crumbling from the inside while pretending to be happy that Tanaka has found temporary love with yet another stranger who doesn't see half the things that Noya sees in Tanaka. He needs to stop setting himself up for the hope that Tanaka will finally see what's in front of him, and the crushing pain when he's overlooked, once again. He sighs, looking away. "The right person is waiting for you. You'll find them someday, Ryuu."

"Yeah. I hope so." Tanaka leans against his side. "Thanks."

Noya gives Tanaka the best smile he can muster. He already knows what whoever it is, it's not going to be him.

It’s cold by the water.

Daiki shoves his hands in his pockets and hunches his shoulders. The wind is relentless, cutting through his bangs sticking out from under his hood and through the collar of his jacket, even though he’s zipped it up fully. Figures. Mother Nature doesn’t give a shit about a fuckup like him.

Something vibrates in his pocket. Probably Kise texting him, wondering where he was, why he wasn’t back yet, didn’t they agree to go out for dinner tonight? It’d be so easy to just shoot him a text. So easy to just type in those simple words, quick and painless. But Daiki is tired of taking the easy way out.

Kise deserves better.

He always has.

The waves are coming in now, high tide and surging towards him restlessly. On the other side, he can imagine skyscrapers and a different city lines, foreign to him but will soon be familiar to Kise. Kuroko is always telling him that Daiki needs to spare some time thinking about where he wanted this idiot love story to go.

Daiki could stand to listen to Kuroko more.

And now, this stupid romance is headed straight into these freezing waters. Daiki watches the tide wash over his footprints. It fades cleanly, not a trace left behind. He laughs. The sound is snatched away by the wind. Maybe he should follow that example. If he let this go, if he let Kise go, all they’ve been through and all they are can be washed away by the ocean.

Daiki shivers, staring out across the waters one last time. He doesn’t think about Kise’s warm gaze, Kise’s sunny grin, Kise’s familiar voice and touch and everything. He breathes in, ocean breeze turning his lungs to ice.

He turns, and starts walking back to tell his home goodbye.

There's no better hunter between them, no particular one of them who possesses the superior instincts. They're both just as good as each other, the same way they're both just as lost, just as terrified, trying to figure themselves out, trying to figure everything else out while they're at it.

The week leading up to full moon is always one of the worst, but it doesn't hold a candle to how shitty Atsumu feels the week after. They find themselves shivering in the middle of the bare woods, clothes thankfully in one piece, wishing that their memories were as lucky.

The transformation always takes so much out of them, Atsumu thinks tiredly as he huddles against his brother for warmth. They don't always remember what happens while they're wolves, and once the moon has set once again, they're left to piece together the clues that they find. Osamu's mouth is stained red with blood and there's a taste at the back of his throat that he doesn't want to talk about. Atsumu doesn't know what to do about it, or how to help. If Osamu isn't talking to Atsumu about it, there's not a single soul in the entire world that he'd be willing to talk to about it, but there are things that aren't healthy to keep bottled up, things that they need to start talking about, at least to each other, just to keep themselves sane.

"Do you remember seeing anyone?" Osamu asks, breaking the silence that settles over them, as Atsumu leads him to the river to wash all of the blood off.

"I don't remember anything, 'Samu," Atsumu replies, his voice just as soft as his twin's. "I don't even remember the moon rising. Do you?"

Osamu doesn't reply right away. When Atsumu looks over, he's standing there, face tilted up to the sky.

"You remembered it last time," Osamu murmurs. "When I didn't."

"We're taking turns at the whole memory loss thing," Atsumu grunts. He grabs for Osamu's hand, pulling him closer to the water. "Great."

"That's not it," Osamu says slowly. He looks over at Atsumu, and the way he's frowning is enough of a sign to take his words seriously. "'Tsumu, what if we're just. Taking turns."

"Remembering?"

Osamu shakes his head. "Not just that. I mean. One of us was bitten when we were kids, right? That's what we kept being told, but no one could remember which one of us got bitten, and which one didn't."

"But we're twins, so…"

"What if," Osamu says, "there's only one wolf. We're the same wolf. The same person."

Atsumu snorts quietly, shaking his head. "Do you even hear yourself?"

"Half person, half wolf." Osamu shrugs. "Maybe we take turns being one half each."

Atsumu shakes his head, the thought too absurd for him. "If you want to believe that, sure. The message I'm taking from it is that we're sticking with each other, right?"

Osamu nods, dropping the subject and letting Atsumu wash the blood off his face. "Always, 'Tsumu."

The lights of the carnival played over them as they walked hand-in-hand down the pathways between the booths. Hawkers called out to them to try their games, tempting prizes on display, but the two of them were content to just eat their ice-cream and cotton candy in peace. Onoda swung their hands as they walked, the mild spring evening only just starting to give way to night so that the rides lit up the slowly gathering gloom and sent wild stripes of color over them.

“Hold this,” Midousuji suddenly ordered, pushing his small cup of ice cream at Onoda. Taken aback, Onoda quickly let go of Midousuji’s hand so he could take the little carton. His large stick of pink fluffy cotton candy had been halved in size and his mouth felt distinctly sticky as he spoke.

“Why?”

Too late. Midousuji had already approached one of the stalls. He glanced back over his shoulder and Onoda waved cheerfully with the cotton candy stick to show he was still there. It looked like a simple game - throw darts to pop balloons - but Midousuji had said earlier that the game was a cheat. According to him, the balloons weren’t blown up all the way and the darts were blunt, so you had to throw very hard if you wanted to pop a balloon.

Another person might have been disillusioned to hear how many of the carnival games were rigged but Onoda had listened intently and been impressed by his boyfriend’s knowledge. Now, he watched as Midousuji leaned over the counter and smiled widely at the carny manning the stall. He couldn’t hear the conversation but it eventually resulted in Midousuji taking three darts, stepping back, and sending them all into balloons at the very edge of the board. The pop of the balloons went unheard under the noise of the night but Onoda cheered for Midousuji anyway. He would have clapped too if his hands hadn’t been full!

Another three darts found their marks as well and Midousuji looked back at Onoda once more before a big, fluffy stuffed toy was handed to him. He carried it back to Onoda and thrust it towards him.

“Here. That’s Mage, right?” He asked, presenting Onoda with a stuffed toy version of Mage that was half Onoda’s height.

“Yes!” Onoda beamed, both at this proof that Midousuji had been paying attention to Love Hime and at the fact that Midousuji had won him a prize. “Thank you.”

With his hands full, he couldn’t take the stuffed toy from Midousuji; he pressed up instead onto his tiptoes and touched a little kiss to Midousuji’s cheeks.

“Gross,” Midousuji muttered, but his cheeks pinked a little anyway.

It bothered Youichi far more than he would like to admit when Ryousuke was ignoring him at the bar, the pink-haired bartender setting down his usual with a wink before moving around the rest of the bar with ease.

A wink aimed at a pretty brunette in the corner before she smiled back flirtatiously, her gin and tonic appearing in the blink of an eye before she handed him far too much money and told him to keep the rest as a tip.

His attention next grabbed by a gorgeous blond man, obviously flirting to try and get himself an extra shot in his drink. Ryousuke doing his best to hide a grimace before filling the drink with far too much ice and soda in vengeance before handing it over with a smack on the bar top – fingers lingering on top of Ryousuke’s unwillingly.

It made Youichi’s heart twist more than a little in his chest. Memories of endless rainy nights spent staring out his front window, watching as neighbours dashed from their doors to cars and back again trying desperately to avoid the rain – all except for one pink-haired fool who would only walk slowly, face upturned into the spray with a keen smile on his face.

Made him think of the endless attempts to make conversation in passing on the street, once he actually found out the man worked only down the street from their apartments. Youichi spending far too much time at his own job distracted before facing numerous consequences.

“Kuramochi! If you burn a side dish one more time tonight, you're going to spend the rest of it cleaning instead of cooking – understood?” His head chef threatening before turning back towards the stove top in a huff.

I can't continue on like this… need to put up or shut up before I end up doing something far worse, like burning up the kitchen perhaps…

This was the main reason why he was here, one pink-haired, overly appearing to be flirty, yet seemingly one of the hardest individuals Youichi had ever tried to talk to in his life. He had no issues talking to everyone from his friends, to co-workers, to cute girls who sometimes hit on him at the bar… but nothing hit him so brutally hard as Ryousuke’s steely gaze.

A gaze he missed following him outside as he escaped the crowd of people, Youichi pulling out a smoke from the pack in his pocket before lighting up in the chilly air.

“Better watch out – that will be the death you.” That whispered voice chilling Youichi straight to the bone, causing him to momentarily pause his inhale – lungs burning with the effort of holding still instead of exhaling the poison coiling in his lungs.

“Maybe that's exactly what I'm looking for-“

Shocked to silence by his own admission, by the way Ryousuke only leaned closer to breathe the same air. Slim fingers grabbing away the cigarette in Youichi’s fingers, a set of pouted lips taking a slow breath on the rapidly dying cigarette – the way the burn only spread deeper as Youichi felt just how plush those lips were against his own.
