• Don't rec your own work. You can recommend things created by your own team, but please spread the love to other teams too.

Why is this work awesome?: [incoherent screaming] this is an art fill that, when i first saw it, had me frozen to the spot. IT’S GORGEOUS AND BADASS AND AMAZING. the colours choices are beautiful, and with the composition it makes it feel like a movie poster (ennoshita would be so lucky!). i love everyone’s poses so much too, they all have so much character. yachi’s so dynamic and saeko’s so cocky, but kiyoko’s got to be my favourite here. she looks like a leader thinking of her next plan, the way she’s hidden in shadows but the light of the explosion plays off her glasses. i just love the sense of story i get from this picture.

Why is this work awesome?: I LOVE HOW YOU CAN READ THE EXACT FLAVOUR OF ASSHOLE IN OIKAWA’S FACE, this is so beautiful and hilarious and good, Oikawa is so beautiful and hilarious and good. Why is this work awesome?: this main round 2 entry is an illustrated fic for a very fun spy au. even though we know the mysterious shukurimu has to be hanamaki, there’s still a lot of suspense built through matsukawa’s worries and the notes left behind at each scene. i’m always a sucker for side characters, so seeing kindaichi, oikawa, and iwaizumi in the fic was really great! the first art piece is really cute with pretty colours, and the second is gritty and intense, and they are both so perfect for their respective scenes. i really love this \o/

Why is this work awesome?: this illustrated fic entry for main round 1 is a yakuza au. there are SO MANY THINGS i love in this fic: kanou pov, kanou/mihashi, arranged marriage trope, found family, the canon incidents that are explored in this fic (mainly mihashi back on his middle school team, finding a team in high school, etc.). the more i read, the more i found things i loved. the illustrations for this fic fit so well. they’re all in sepia, giving it an old school gangster movie feeling, and they’re all so expressive! my favourite might be the first one, it’s a beautiful scene with the promise of adventure to come :>

Why is this work awesome?: this illustrated fic entry for main round 1 explores what would happen if ogata died and started haunting hikaru. this is such an interesting idea and i love the execution of it, all the complicated emotions hikaru goes through, how it brings him back to thinking about sai. the art has a lovely, loose style. i particularly like the melancholy look on hikaru’s face in the first illustration, and ogata reaching out and meeting sai in the last one. this was really thoughtful and bittersweet!

Why is this work awesome?: I love imagery to do with wind and storms and so I wanted to rec this one first! There's so many great lines -- light and playful breeze being akin to Bokuto's laughter, the negative energy of the storm needing release too, and the immutable trust that Akaashi has despite the turbulent nature of Bokuto's powers. That calm, observant, reassuring Akaashi POV is a delight to read, especially when his fondness for Bokuto shines through so few words.

Why is this work awesome?: Kuroken is so good and Kii writes them so well!! Cast in this AU, it highlights Kenma's feelings of being the outsider in a culture foreign to his own, echoing his canonverse feelings about being in an athletics club. I love seeing Kuroo work to give him a place to be himself, and the somewhat darker implications of what that could mean in this verse, as well as Kenma calmly acknowledging this and accepting little bits of this new life together as parts of himself. ;; And this sentiment, this strikes me as so Kenma no matter what the setting: "Kenma knows that they're good people. Given time, he thinks, he could come to like them."

I love how clean this artist's work is, the lines and the black are so crisp, especially with white details like the shine in Hiruma's hair and the lines on Kurita's backpack and hat. And I love that they're playing pokemon together; I bet Hiruma was a fighty little shit at that too, as he does.

The slope of Hiruma's spine and the way his body curves in against Agon's is just so nice, and I love the specific angle of Agon's upturned chin, pushed back by Hiruma's prodding finger. I love that this has such an intimate feeling and that both of their expressions are almost gentle (for them, anyway) but that it's also this subtle intimation of threat, with Hiruma evoking the idea of a gunshot. (I just love my awful ES21 ship, okay, this is Very Good Content.)

I love the breath of fire agon is breathing out and how it mirrors the color scheme of Hiruma's half, creating this really balanced sense of dualtiy. And I love both of their expressions, with Hiruma's sharp teeth and slanted brows, and Agon's perpetual look of offense. (And I love that Hiruma is holding the book! Why is this work awesome?: I love this AU for how well it fits Mizumachi, and Mizumachi's relationship with Kakei. In canon Mizumachi loves the water and is quick to shuck off his clothing with the least provocation; it only follows that as a creature who shapeshifts between human and fish, he'd be the exact same way, leaving Kakei to deal with his ridiculousness. I love how familiar Kakei is with Mizumachi in this, and how Mizumachi tries to show off while he's swimming! The way things are between them is so natural and that's nice.

Why is this work awesome?: With how often the canon calls Hiruma a demon, it was only a matter of time before that became literal. I love his characterization here, how he's all sharpness and snap and dramatic airs just like in canon, how he instantly takes a liking to Sena, who proves he does have some guts. The ending, though, is what you should read this fic for: I absolutely adore that what Hiruma asks for, in trade for saving Shin's future, is Sena's future in exchange, and that Hiruma doesn't clarify that this doesn't mean Sena's soul. I love that Hiruma is honestly giving Sena something more than taking something in trade; I legitimately teared up a little at the ending (because I'm a joke, and the mere evocation of Teamwork And Friendship destroys me).

Why is this work awesome?: This fic is super cute, and such a fun way to come at Sena's crush on Shin! I love the particular absurdity captured by the dream sequences, and I especially love the way Ami writes Shin, especially in the dreams, where even in Sena's subconscious Shin is his usual blunt, too-direct self. I love the matchmaking by Monta and Sakuraba (and I love how good the characterization of everyone, even the "minor" characters, is!) and I love the way the premise resolves. My favorite detail is definitely the bit where Sena realizes Shin is looking uncertain for the first time he's ever seen, and how Sena empathizes with that because he's unsure of himself all the time. It's just such a lovely contrast of how they are as people.

I love that he's more excited by competing against Sena alone than he is even by competing against him in football, and I love the quiet tenderness the scene ends with.

It's future fic where Shin and Sena are living together and Sena leaves cooked meals for Shin, sometimes (characters cooking for each other, more like: my weakness), when they're both invited to an American football training camp. I love that Sena just leaves the letter out for Shin because that's something he can do when they're living together, and I love the small details of characterization, like how specific Shin is with his routine, and how Sena has a practiced signal for "you're hugging too tight, please stop." It's a really cute fic.

It isn't just that Shin bought Sena new football spikes because he noticed Sena needs them (and the fact that he notices even a small difference in Sena's performance, notices that Sena is compensating for bad equipment!) but that he bought the exact ones Sena had been eyeing; he noticed the specific thing Sena was interested in. I love that Shin doesn't think about money (typical rich kid, but in the altruistic way) and I love the little cameo from Sakuraba.

Why is this work awesome?: I adore this fic for the atmosphere; it fits in perfectly with canon and the mountain training Shin and Sakuraba go on, expanding on that training in ways you would expect for the series (Shin teaching Sakuraba to fish because it will help him with his catching accuracy! Catching fish as training!) More than that, I adore it as character study; I love seeing Shin through Sakuraba's eyes as Sakuraba slowly realizes what a deliberate and thoughtful person Shin really is. Sakuraba's affection for Shin grows very naturally and the final resolution of that is subtle and understated but also really rewarding.

It shines through here in how he takes an interest in what Sakuraba is doing after practice, and through how he tries to reassure Sakuraba about his football playing. It's also a nice parallel to Takami's perspective when he shows up; he, like Sakuraba, isn't a genius player of the style Shin is. But they still have their talents, the thing they can contribute to a team. This story captures a quiet, introspective moment between teammates in a really enjoyable way.

Why is this work awesome?: What I love best about this fic is the even, steady pace of it, the way Tetsuma and Shien's practicing draws them closer and closer into a parallel rhythm with each throw. The author's characterization of Tetsuma is really nice, straight-forward and loyal, and the moment when they kiss is delightfully tender. I love the last line, that football isn't something just Shien could be good at, but something they could be really good at; I love how it solidifies the even feel of their partnership.

Why is this work awesome?: I really adore this fic for how it portrays the beginning of Tetsuma and Shien's relationship, when they first met each other. There's such a difference between the heir of a wealthy family and the son of one of their servants and the way Shien draws Tetsuma out in that context is really rewarding; it feels good to watch them bond over football. I also love Tetsuma's characterization; it would be easy to flatten someone as straightforward and obedient as him but here there's a sharpness to him, and a gentleness that comes through when he shows concern for Shien in his own way. And the ending is just, bringing things full circle. This fic is such a rewarding take on the growth of their relationship.

Why is this work awesome?: The best thing about this fic is hands-down the single line of dialogue where Mizumachi asks Kakei, "(Are you) ready for a weekend of wild sexual misadventures?" It so perfectly encapsulates the kind of relationship they have, which is also well-documented in this fic. Mizumachi wraps himself up like a gift and climbs into a box stuffed with flower petals just to surprise his boyfriend; it's a hilarious, undeniably silly read. I love that Kakei is just used to stuff like this from Mizumachi and that even while ordering him to clean up his mess, he doesn't deny the request for sexy activity outright.

Why is this work awesome?: I love this fic as a character study. It's nominally Hiruma/Agon, because it hinges on Hiruma comparing himself to Agon, the ways he comes up lacking in what the universe has dealt him as well as the ways he surpasses Agon through his own hard work and intelligence, but this is a character-driven piece first and foremost. I adore Hiruma as a character and I adore how he's portrayed here, resilient till the end and well aware that what cards you're dealt doesn't matter nearly as much as how you play them.

Why is this work awesome?: The best thing about Agon and Hiruma as a ship is the aggression and the headgames they each bring to the relationship, and this fic delivers excellently on both counts. I love the familiarity, the fact that what starts the interaction is something that Hiruma has done before, and I love Kat's voice for both characters. There's a little hint at breathplay with I consider a plus, and some really great language, especially the last line.

Why is this work awesome?: I adore this fic for everything it manages to do in such a small space, I adore Agon as the angel who fell versus Hiruma as the one who didn't and just, the entire nature of the AU. I love that this contrast between them is a thread woven through the whole fic, something Hiruma harps on — I expected it'd only take you a millenia, but it took two! — and which Agon himself keeps returning to, trying to figure out why Hiruma didn't. There are so many good details, both things translated from canon (Hiruma's black book of blackmail/sins) and written fresh into the prose, and Kat's characterization of both Agon and Hiruma is spot on and bell-clear. There isn't a lot of content in fandom for this ship and this is exactly what I want to see for it.
